The ‘naysayers’ (aka haters) will predictably proclaim otherwise, but what Google appears to have accomplished here is a complete re-imagining of the tablet/slate/touch interface, and along with hardware manufacturers like Motorola, stand a good chance of leading the way to the future of (larger-screened) mobile computing.

I look forward to seeing what the competition will bring to Android 3.0/Honeycomb… but things are looking mighty ‘tasty’ so far.

Additionally: Bravo for having a full-sized SDHC card slot (they’re less expensive, faster, and readily available in higher capacities), more tablets need to go this route.

Where do you see the SD slot?

  • http://twitter.com/mfg68 Matt Galo

    FUCK YES.

DO we think it’ll have expandable storage? Micro SD/SD?

Might skip ipad2 for this one.

I wish I could, but all my digital copies of my Blu-Ray movies are in iTunes…

they are stored on your computer being accessed through itunes. you can use them on other non I-Devices.

No WiFi only model, no deal. Hopefully they understand this

      • DaHarder

They’re all ‘WiFi Only’ if you choose not to use the cellular connectivity… (Potential) Problem = Solved.

      • Anonymous

not really, that implies there is still a sim card slot and a data reciever, hence making it much more than wifi only. We can;t forget the data price tg verizon will be charging either….

    Eat his ipad ha

Dual core and a front facing camera are great!

A HDMI port is not necessary, as I should be able to stream to my TV. To notice 1080p I need to be viewing the screen further than I would a XOOM/iPad screen. LTE? again not necessary, on my smartphone yes, but on a XOOM no. Most people use XOOM’s and iPad’s where there is WIFI, not walking down the street like they do with their smartphones. Of what I seen of Honeycomb today, well disappointing…

We need more spec info. How heavy and thick is it? It looks thick in the picture. We also need a price. It should be released about the same time as the iPad 2. It will be interesting to compare the two then.

I will leave you all to continue jizzing in your pants over it…

Honeycomb is disappointing? What were YOU hoping for? Please enlighten us.

And thile Xoom will probably come out before the iPad since that’ll come out in April, like the first one. The Xoom is supposed to hit Q1.

      • Anonymous

As you say the Xoom is “supposed” to be released in Q1. At last years CES we were told there was a lot of tablet like devices supposed to be released some time last year. We were left waiting…

Honeycombs looks cluttered. There is nothing original about it from the video posted today. It’s basically a mixture of other OS’s. The UI is unimpressive.

I wanted something original, not just a variation of what already exists.

It will be interesting to see it in the real world.

Xoom is to compete with Ipad. From that standpoint, it’s heading in the right direction, provided that it’s cheaper than Ipad.

Is it a ground breaking new technology? No, but it will cut into Apple’s earnings. Which is not easy to do.

  • MicroNix

Moto sure knows how to do Android right. Bravo!

Nice! Some proper competition for Apple!

    any videos?

I will never get another Motorola product again until they allow me to remove all the bloat (especially BANKRUPT blockbuster!!!!) without rooting.

  • JM

Nice! I’m guessing it will be priced at $500 to $700. Anyone agree?

I love the idea of this new tablet UI, with one exception. Moving the 4 buttons on-screen is cool so they always stay bottom left regardless of how you orient the device, but I would still love a fixed search button. 80% of the time when I use my phone I longpress the search button to do a web-search, write an email, or use navigate/maps, listen to pandora, set alarm etc. I don’t have faith that the search button is going to be able to do voice actions from anywhere but the homescreen.
Either way this looks awesome, and as much as it pains me to say so, I had no interest in the tablet form factor until recently sitting down with an iPad. It was fun/frustrating to use at the same time. I just want to be able to download a file from the internet, and this will allow me to do so.

  • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

Very nice. Now, more than ever, I know Apple’s GONE baby! Gone!!!!

What’s the external modem attachment needed for?

  • http://twitter.com/aylak Bektas Akkaya

I can’t imagine myself taking pictures or recording video with any of these slate devices. I think it would look so silly. Is it just me?

    • Anonymous

No, it’s not. I just think the whole camera thing is so standard now that they have to include them.

    • Us61252

2cameras are more useful for business apps. I talk to you, switch camera to let you see item I am talking about, then I can see how you like it then switch cameras to resume conversation. Also in grocery store…”I’m sorry dear, what item did you want? Here let me switch cameras so you can see shelf to find item for me…since I can’t find it.” Lots of situations where you need to have somebody looking at what you see and simultaneous viewing of their reaction.

so want this…. This is what a tablet should be, good size, good OS, good connections/features.

If its less than $500, I’ll pick it up as a real laptop replacement. Hopefully, it will have some sort of docking station for usb keyboard/mouse.

Motorola seriously owes their life to android. They were about a dollar away from fishing with Blockbuster before the Droid released.

Oh wow, OK dude I like that idea!

I guess there will be a 3g data charge..teired not unlimited. Due to. Vzw wanting net neutrality . I thought 4g would be built in? Now we have to buy a seperate modem? Will there be higher cost and less 4g data tiers than 3G? A separate contract? As it stands now : $60 =5GB $80=10GB on 3g.

Earlier articles made 4G upgrade ability seem like it will launch as a 4G device with the radio turned off using 3 G until OTA download to turn 4G radio on. That’s how they switched from 1X to 3G rev.0 and rev.0 to Rev.A.

If 4G requires a separate external device and a no unlimited data option with seperate modem contract I would not bother with 4G. I think vzw would lose a lot of customers. For last 2 years vzw reps told me 4G was designed for unlimited highspeed data due to high 3g demand for video and lots of people requesting to tether game consoles to game anywhere wirelessly.

As a trucker that’s why I became interested in 4G…UNLIMITED HIGH SPEED DATA. Now vzw tells me that nobody wants unlimited data for a fixed price of $59.95/mo.? That’s why they want net neutrality. Because too many people are using their networks for data not calling,so no customer wants unlimited data.
