LG Optimus 2X and iPhone 4 browsers do battle in video comparison

mobile

Following its announcement last month, LG’s Optimus 2X has become one of the most anticipated upcoming Android handsets thanks to the dual-core Tegra 2 processor buried within its sleek, slim case. Of course, all that will change on Thursday when new dual-core Android phones are introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but for the time being, all eyes are on the 2X. Zealous enthusiast blog Android Arena has uncovered a short comparison video that pits the Optimus 2X’s Tegra-fueled Web browser against the iPhone 4, and LG’s Android beast certainly appears to come out on top. Though the tests are anything but scientific and only two Web pages were visited on camera, the video clearly shows the iPhone 4 being bested by the Optimus 2X, which apparently loads images and other content much faster than Apple’s iPhone. Hit the break for the video.

It’s official: nothing says “supernerd” like browser comparison videos.

Now how about a look at battery life? ;)

    • Joebutler85

Willing to sacrifice Performance and features for battery life? That’s a pretty big tradeoff, and not exactly one that plays off so well in Apples favor. Most of my iPhone friends charge their phones once every 1-1.5 days. Droids seem to last bout the same with all the extra stuff Apple cuts out.

      • Awesome!!!!

I hear the new LG iPhone is way better on battery life than the old iPhone 4. And, it has two cores!!!!

      • Bobdoled

        I don’t care!

Yeah like the force closes, poor market, awful music applications, and all around laggy experience. I’ve had 5 Android phones and have tried many custom ROMS…all the same. Android is fun, don’t get me wrong, but all the ‘extra stuff Apple cuts out’ also include all the poor overall quality of the devices… I like having poor quality cut out.

      • IReallyAmAniPhoneOwner

        I’ve had 10 iPhones.

Every single one has been the same problems:

        Apps hanging or locking up
        Crappy app store
        The music app sucks
        Laggy and slow interface

I finally had enough with Apple’s junk iPhones and upgraded to Android and haven’t looked back. No wonder Google’s Android is destroying Apple’s crappy iPhones in sales 2:1 now.

I’m not hating or making up crap pretending to be an iPhone owner just to hype Android – iPhones are perfectly fine for Hipster Douchebags who want to fit it at their local Starbucks.

My DROID Incredible overclocked to 2.5 Ghz last 5 weeks easily on a single charge. Good luck getting those results on the iCrap. Plus I have widgets. CHOICE and COMPEITION is good for the CONSUMER. RULE THE AIR. DROID DOES.

He doesn’t speak for all of us Android fans and based off his other posts he may very well be a paid Verizon employee or a bot. He’s also retarded.

I, like many other Android lovers, only tolerate VZW because their network is the best. I only want Google/HTC/Motorola/Sanding/LG/etc, and thus the consumer, to win during these smartphone wars.

Net neutrality, unlocked bootloaders, freedom from contracts, phones separated from service providers, and no walled gardens would make me a happy panda.

My focus could last 5 weeks on a single charge if I turned it off and left it in a drawer.

  • Awesome!!!!

This device is going to be the absolute best new iPhone ever. Steve Jobs once again has outdone himself, coming up with a faster iPhone than the iPhone 4. And, it might even be 4g too, which would make it even faster.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GP2WYAHXS6CRUREISWBGPUSUGE Michael

Are you a watching the same video i saw. The LG is an Android powered phone, Just because it looks like an iPhone doesn’t make it an iPhone.

      • Anonymous

I want the one with the bigger G B’s. LOL. The Optimus 2X will be awesome, cant wait to pick one up. Hopefully Tmo picks it up.

  • Davva

Shock Horror. A dual core processor is faster than a single core. What a pointless comparison.

My next comparison video is going to be XBox 360 and PS3 graphics compared to an Atari 2600 or ZX Spectrum graphics.

    • 2lazy2login

Good comparison. Using technology that is twenty years old vs phones that are produced and sold today. Good one. Tell your Lord Steve that if he want’s to be able to keep up with technology and keep innovative products, maybe he should try bringing out more than one phone a year, and for god sakes make some changes other than better camera/battery life/speed. Make something innovative, and stop riding the five year old coat tails of what used to be a great product.

  • Scott

I would never own another LG phone. With that being said, bring on the Olympus!

  • Rbmccaslin

This is retarded. Th iPhone’s browser is already slower than most androids running froyo. let’s see a comparison against something comparable.

  • Anonymous

We saw this video over a month ago.

  • Jim

Don’t get me wrong, I love my iPhone. But can someone explain why we are comparing a six month old phone against cutting edge tech?

    • Norm

Because DROID DOES and its totally reasonable to compare the first gen iphone (2007) to DROIDs released this year. Stick to the talking points guys, we can do this!

      • Dan

        norm is the ultimate fandroid.

    • Drew

Because you know how it goes around here…. “Hmm, what can we do to shove the iPhone in the spotlight of a shallow and meaningless comparison…??”

    • Anonymous

Comparing the browsers is like when iPhone people swear like fragmentation is a real world issue.

  • http://twitter.com/mistercarter7 Mike Gonzalez

the iPhone loaded Yahoo faster… where’s that dual-core power at? LOL

    • http://twitter.com/TheBigNoob Ryan Fraser

I’m not sure if you watched carefully enough.

    Smoking phone!

The iphone screen is soooo smallllll.

  • Steve Jobs

um…how about “i don’t care” if it’s a few seconds faster… I prefer reading on Retina and not crap. iPhone pwns all.

  • Jonalvrd7

I still hate the android web browser

  • Anonymous

NEWS FLASH! THIS JUST IN! This years dual core smartphone is faster than last years single core smart phone! Read all about it!

  • Hilbe

Clearly the iPhone is being held incorrectly.

    • Anonymous

At least I can buy an iPhone 4. LG’s Optimus only exists in that video advertisment.

  • Anonymous

Yea I know comparing a dual core to a single core seems crazy. Its too bad there are no other dual core chips out to do comparisons with.

If anything it can show ppl there is a real difference between dual core and single core and get some folks to adopt dual core phones quicker.

It is wild the browser test tho. Like someone mentioned, weren’t there browser tests between (insert Android phone here) vs. iPhone 4 and the Android phone did good?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GP2WYAHXS6CRUREISWBGPUSUGE Michael

As an Android and an iOS user, this has got to be the stupidest online test at all. If anything the only thing it does is prove that dual phones are faster /in nature/ that single core phones. Which is a no brainer.

I think if we could see a dual core phone v. another dual core phone it would be a lot better comparison, or a “state of the art” android up against the “state of the art” iPhone.

I know i know fragmentation fragmentation fragmentation, blah blah blah. android gets monthly updates to hardware. Apple gets Yearly updates no wonder they have mile long lines and billion phone sales in one weekend.. … .. all those iFans are pissing their pants waiting on the newest iPhone so they can wear the crown for a week or two.

    • Anonymous

      really?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GP2WYAHXS6CRUREISWBGPUSUGE Michael

        yes really.

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I agree. We should be able to buy new phones every 2 weeks and have a brand new OS which may or may not exceed the capabilities of our current phone (perfect excuse to buy a new one every time a new OS update comes out!) And you are also right, Apple has NO CLUE what it’s doing. Goofans (aka Apple Haters) like you and I can do a much MUCH better job of marketing and building products than Apple can.

  • Seankir79

Why is the iphone still the go to device to do browser comparisons with? It has been getting beat ever since 2.2 came out. How about compare it to one of the nexus devices.

    • http://twitter.com/ChazClout ChazClout

Because the iPhone 4 is a common device and a good baseline to compare with? It could even be that that was the only phone at hand to compare it against!

So many possibilities. Why are people getting so worked up over the comparison?

      • Drew

Because the comparison was far less than pedestrian on the scale of things and the fact that such an insignificant comparison vs. an iPhone, should’ve been skipped in favor of a little something more worthwhile. But then again, this is an Apple site…

      • Anonymous

Yeah this is an Apple site and BGR decided to show the iPhone 4 get smoked by a dual core Android because BGR is so bias towards Apple. Step away from the bong buddy and toss out the wacky weed you’re starting to lose your grip on reality.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tjfrye TJ Frye

um, seriously? dual core vs single core processor? this shouldn’t even be a contest! i think i’ll go compare my droid x against a blackberry 8330 and brag about the beat down i’ll hand the 8330.

  • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I have it from good sources that there will be 30-50 new Android phones released at CES with XEON 12 core processors and battery lives upwards of 3 months on a single charge while running 200-300 applications simultaneously. Freaking amazing. Try that Apple you piece of crap. All your users (no matter if they use Macs, iPods, iPads, iPhones, battery chargers, track pads, Magic Mice, etc etc) are retarded. They NEED products that are simple to use. Darn simpletons!

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

Oh, and I forgot, 12-20 TB of storage.
