Samsung Galaxy S sales surpass 10 million in 2010

mobile

We’re just three days into 2011 and Samsung is already reminiscing about the big year it had in 2010. Between sales of its Galaxy S smartphone and Galaxy Tab Android tablet alone, Samsung’s mobile division had quite the year — and the company finished strong. With just two weeks left in 2010, Samsung announced that it had sold 9.3 million Galaxy S smartphones globally. Today, the South Korean giant reportedly confirms that it surpassed its goal of 10 million units sold in 2010. Over 700,000 units in two weeks is quite an accomplishment, especially considering one of those weeks was the last week of the year. With Christmas landing just prior and New Year’s fast approaching, the last week of December is typically not a huge week for consumer electronics.

North America was reportedly Samsung’s biggest market for the Galaxy S, having sold 4 million units across the continent in 2010. Europe came in next with 2.5 million units, followed by Asia with 2 million. Samsung has a lot of work to do if its Galaxy S successors hope to match the astonishing pace set by the sleek Android phone, but with the ability to woo carriers like no other cell phone maker, we have high hopes.

LOL…Looks like an iPhone 3G…How original!

It’s like that poor kid on the block; all his buddies have a REAL GI-Joe, with Kung Fu Grip, and he has Army Bill with Jerk Off Grip….LMAO…

It DOES look like an iPhone…until you go to install an app that Steve Jobs wouldn’t approve of, or remove touchwiz and go with a different UI (you can do that with Android).

A better analogy would be the android phone being the G.I. Joe with Kung Fu grip, and the iPhone would be the collectible Barbie that the kid isn’t allowed to take out of the box and play with.

      • Anonymous

Yes…because everyone that buys an Android phone will do that…LOL..Dumb A$$.

“Nice phone Dad!” “Ya, thanks son, wait til I change the UI, root it, and remove sense…blah blah”…

Android Fanboys = Geeks that live in their parents basement @ the age of 40…

      • http://www.searingarrow.com Gingeroid

Interesting because Im not 40 or living in my parents basement. I do enjoy my Android phone though.

        You sound resentful

      • Jayhammy

And I’m over 40 and make over 100K/year and have my own house…and I have an Android device.

Resentful? Yes. Immature and insecure? Definitely.

I’m 42, live in my own home with my wife and two kids – one of whom may drive me back to my parent’s basement with the cost of college tuition! Seriously! Not a single scholarship or grant???!!!

BTW, I don’t have an Android yet, either – I’m still stuck on WinMo 6.5. With a lot of work, it’s a useable phone. Once the dual core Androids hit, I’ll be making the jump. the wife and daughter each have a Droid 2.

      • Jayhammy

It’s crazy how “crazed” these iPhonatics are about their iPhones. They just can’t accept the fact that the iPhone is already outdated and that newer devices are beating the crap out of it. And, by the way, the BOGO offers aren’t everywhere, on every carrier, for every device, and in every country. In fact, BOGO really doesn’t exist outside of the US, where Android is exploding like crazy.

But I say to the iPhone people: so what? Android is beating iPhone…for the moment. But the good thing for EVERYBODY is that Steve Jobs will eventually realize that he needs to make bigger and better changes to future iterations of the iPhone or it will become like the Blackberry. Competition is good for all of us.

    • GaryW

Yes, the iPhone does look like a cheap ripoff of this phone.

No wonder Apple is getting outsold by Google 2:1 in cellphone sales – 14 million iPhones vs 29 million Android phones a quarter.

      • Anonymous

That’s because carriers are doing the 2 for one deals. Only way they can get rid of shitty phones. Give’em away…

      • Gary@

Hey everyone, it’s the sad little Hipster Douchebag Apple fanboy who tries to spread that same lie in every new amazing Android sales story.

Google beating the crap out of Apple’s defective and outdated cellphones must be ABSOLUTELY KILLING YOU.

        Love it!

Go cry over your Starbucks assclown.

      • MicroNix

Bitter, party of 1, your table is ready….

      • Anonymous

Yes, it is killing me. I cry every evening over it…Instead of having sex with my wife, I just stare at my phone saying, “WHY CAN’T I ROOT YOU!!!…I WISH U WERE MORE OPEN”…

LOL…No, I have a life actually. I use my phone to make phone calls…pretty much it. But hey, if you like rooting phones, and stuff…cool…probably a good diversion for you, instead of popping your pimples…

WIll be interesting to see how the Tab’s sales run in its second quarter, what with carriers already upping their subsidies to spur sales.

  • GaryW

Google’s Android domination shows no sign of letting up.

300k new Android phones being sold every day now. That is about 110 million Android phones a year.

No wonder Google is beating the crap out of Apple and its defective and outdated/clunky iOS based iPhones.

    • Anonymous

      Kinda like Windows…they give sh!t away…in the end, it’s still sh!t.

      • Anonymous

Are you grumpy because you woke up late for work this morning when your iPhone alarm didn’t work? I’m sure it’s just that you didn’t set it right.

    • Anonymous

I hope you’re referring to Android when you say clunky. The iPhone is so outdated that it’s been out for more than 6 months and no one has been able to match the Retina display on it. Just mention one thing android does that the iPhone doesn’t do better, Lmao.

      • Anonymous

That’s because retina display is pointless overkill (esp on a 3.5″ screen) and not cost-effective. Even graphics benchmarks suffer because of it. Battery life doesn’t get better, so what’s the advantage?

Other manufacturers realize this quite well and won’t follow Apple into that pit.

      • Anonymous

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Lmao. It’s cause no one can build it yet….

    • Anonymous

Come on Gary get with it. US Smartphone market share is lead by Apple 28.6%, RIM 26.1% and then Android 25.8%.

Yup, Android is so great that they are still not beating RIM, let alone Apple. 100 devices and still can’t get the job done. Maybe they need 200.

      • Tedkord

In the last 6 months in the US, Android accounted for 40% of smartphone sales, Apple for 26%. You know what that means?

Absolutely nothing. People got the phone they wanted. Who cares?

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I agree GaryW. I believe, like you and all Goofans (aka Apple Haters) around the world, that Google will have 100% of the entire technology market share this year. We are predicting overtaking Microsoft, Apple, Oracle, et al, this year and we are the better for it. Google doesn’t do evil and I believe, like you do, that the world will be better with Google dominating technology 100% with no one else even close.

  • Donny

And that is 10 million phones not getting updates from Samsung. “Oh but I can just root it blah blah blah”….HELLO? MCFLY? Noone outside tech blog trolls actually do that.

    • Monique

and the sale figures seem to indicate that people (who aren’t geeks) really don’t care about the update

      • MicroNix

Ding ding ding. They bought the phone for what it is. I don’t think an average person is buying a Samsung and even knows it *can* be updated much less wondering when it gets Froyo.

@Donny, they could be like 3G users that got the iOS 4 update and f’d them over royally. You might as well have bricked the phone it was so slow and error filled. But Donny, that certainly can’t be possible with Apple right? I mean they are not fragmented and their updates work beautifully all the way back to the original iPhone! Get over the fact that fragmented or not, the average user doesn’t give two shits about updates Donny. No one outside tech blog trolls actually worry about that.

  • Anonymous

That’s a lot of phones that won’t see Froyo, not to mention gingerbread.

  • Anonymous

I’m surprise they didn’t sell more. They got buy one and get one free, then they have buy one at $.01 and get one free lol.

    • Monique

despite being buy one get one, or being sold for $.01, not everyone wants or can afford a smartphone data plan. besides, those deals/specials are not available worldwide or with every carrier in the US like some people think they are

  • Monique

Haters will always hate. I really don’t get the brand loyalty. So, what if Samsung, HTC, Apple, Motorola sells a boatload of phones? How does it really impact your life? You act like these companies are paying you to advertise their product. If someone prefers Android over Apple, good for them. If someone prefers Apple over Android, more power to them. What’s the big deal? Not everyone wants to have the same freaking phone. Its great that we have options. People will buy whatever phone works for them. Period!

  • phnhater

Wow most of you are bunch of idiots!!! Seriously! Who cares? Iphone vs. Android!!! Either one of these devices will get discarded in a year or two. Five years from now who will care about there Galaxy S or Iphone 4? At the very least the iphone4 does work! I have gone through 3 Vibrants so far. The Samsung phones are crap!!! HTC,Motorola and Apple are all building better phones than this iphone 3GS wanna be.
