Nokia N8 has sold 3.5 to 4 million units according to research firm

mobile

Finnish equity research firm Inderes said Wednesday that Nokia is estimated to have shipped between 3.5 million and 4 million N8 smartphones to date. The Nokia N8, which launched late in the third quarter of 2010, was the first Nokia smartphone to feature the Symbian^3 operating system  — which has since been renamed simply to “Symbian.” Ahead of the N8 launch, Nokia stated that it had “received a record number of online pre-orders for the Nokia N8.” Nokia did not provide any figures to substantiate its claim at that point in time, and it has not reported any sales figures since the launch of the N8. Inderes’ sales estimates, which are based on channel checks and other data, suggest that the N8 has been quite popular in several markets such as India, Finland and Malaysia. While estimated N8 sales fall short of popular devices like the iPhone 4 and Samsung’s Galaxy S, Inderes’ figures are very promising for the struggling Finnish cell phone maker.

Would have been like 25 million easily if they would just use the DROID OS.

    3.5 to 4 million?

I feel bad for them as a “No. 1 smartphone maker in the world”.

thats only the n8, not including all there smartphones, iphones are 3gs 8,16 and 32 gb as well as ip4 16 and 32gb vs 1 N8 16gb, android is all androids so i think they doing pretty good

the iPhone 4 itself has sold 14 million units in the last quarter.

All I’ve ever seen are references to “Iphone” sales not “Iphone 4″, considering some of the supply issues, I would bet some of those sales were not Iphone 4′s in smaller markets where Iphone 4 wasn’t available initially.

apple sold 14 million iphones not just iphone 4, thats the total # of iphones sold

Sounds ok for a phone launched two months ago.

    Perspective based on available data:
The N8 began shipping Sept 30th, so Oct, Nov, Dec, makes 3 months of being out. 3.5 to 4 mil sold, Q3 sales of smartphones 29.5 mil
Iphone 4: 3 million in ~1 month, quarterly sales for Q3 were 13.5 mil (14.1 shipped) for any Iphone
Android: Q3 20.5 mil any android type, haven’t found a good break down, not spending more time on this

Overall the Iphone 4 seems to have sold faster initially, but sales are within the same order of magnitude. Competition is good.

Not bad for a phone that was written off by so many… I have a friend who has a N8 and he loves it.

Well, that’s more than every Windows Phone combined.

  • Saakik

I love my N8 and my wife was so impressed she got a C7. Both phones blow away the competition from Android and iOS. The only reason I can think for people being Nokia haters is they feel envy and stupidity for spending more money on an inferior device! Hehehehe.

  • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

Hate to say it, but that phone looks SWEET! The pics on the site blow ANYTHING from Android Phones or iPhones!

  • Gus

I’m returning my N8. Piece of crap

I hope someone can install Android on one of them. Having an pentaband Android device would be killer.

    I’d get one if I had a spare 500 bucks. I don’t.

shipping 4 million devices and SELLING 4 million devices are 2 completely different things, looks like nokia took a page out of sony’s playbook

  • Dblnutcustard

Seriously do people really still purchase Nokia phones?

  • Jared

To sell 4 million units without being affiliated with a carrier is very impressive ……One other thing I would like to add is all smart phones -web browse -email -text -mms -wifi -and all the other functions we like ——the three things that set them all apart is total storage capacity – camera quality – and screen ……the N8 is the clear winner here scoring 2 out of 3 …………………..food for thought
