IEK: Tablet shipments to total 48 million units in 2011; 25% will run Android

Tawain’s Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK) said Wednesday that global tablet PC shipments in 2011 are expected to total 48 million units. The number sharply contradicts figures reported earlier today by DigiTimes, which suggest Apple will sell 65 million iPad tablets alone next year. The IEK is part of Taiwan`s government-funded Industrial Technology Research Institute, which issued a report regarding the potential impact of tablets, smartphones, smart TVs and 3D displays on the Taiwanese economy in 2011. The report notes that Apple’s iPad will be the firm leader in worldwide tablet sales next year, though Android will account for 25% of global sales, or 12 million units. The IEK also states that Android-powered smartphone shipments are estimated to total 270 million units in 2011 — six times the projections for 2010.

      iPad peaked already. They won’t sell anymore once the 10,000 Android models come out in the next 60-90 days. There will be SO MANY options that consumers will have no choice but to select Android.

        I know you are mocking people but you do bring up a point. Once the over saturation of android tablets starts we will be able to see what people prefer (at least with tablets) when they don’t have to be tied down to a certain carrier. My prediction is that Apple kills it…they are essentially the Microsoft of the tablet era and everything else is just for people who have to go out of their way to be different.

        Me, mocking??? Nah! :-) I find fanboys of both sexes to be hilarious. I love both platforms. I love Google Docs and can’t live without them. Same thing with Gmail, Google Calendar (the best calendar tool in the world). I like Android but prefer iOS (my preference!). But find it amusing how Apple Fanboys consider Fandroids geeks wearing pocket protectors (by the way, there’s nothing wrong with that) and how Fandroids consider Apple fans simpletons and iSheep, when they themselves are anti-sheep, meaning they follow the opposite of what apple says which makes them iSheep as well. :-)

    No way in HELL that Android will be any less than 100% of the market. People couldn’t be that stupid. They MUST know and finally learn that ALL apple products SUCK. Us Goofans (aka Apple Haters) know this for a fact. Can anyone give me ONE good apple product???? NO YOU CAN’T. They all FAIL miserably in our collective eyes.

    So that said, this story is BOGUS. Big time BOGUS. We know that Google will have 100% of share in tablets and phones and when chrome comes out, 100% in laptops and with GTV 100% of TV programming too! The world WILL be dominated by Google and then we, Goofans (aka Apple Haters) will be happy, a little bored perhaps, but HAPPY nevertheless.

      Google already has 100% of the marketshare. Every search on the small number of actual iProducts out in circulation is done via Google. Every email is sent through gmail. Every calender is synced through ones Google account. The iphone might as well be a DROID in a costume. Why? DROID DOES and so does GOOGLE.

      FYI, iPad 2 will NOT BE RELEASED. It will suffer the same fate the White iPhone suffered. The White iPhone wasn’t released because Apple wasn’t selling anymore phones. They are doing the same thing with the iPad 2. As I predicted, they are going out of business and thankfully for us Goofans (aka Apple Haters) firing all 35,000 employees (something we love because those people should not be working in technology!)

        I also have a very reliable source from VZW also indicating that crApple and Steve Jobs personally decided to hault all iphone and ipad production. Steve will be announcing a large amount of layoffs right around CES as well. The good news? Eric Schmidt is still ruling at everything he does. DROID!

    Damnit. I really want a new word for these “Tablets.” A tablet USED to have a keyboard. Here are my demands:

    Any device with a screen size 7″ and up (touch screen or not) that has a keyboard will be called a tablet.

    Any device with a screen size 7″ and up that does NOT have a keyboard, shall be called a slate.

    that is all.

    I would think Android tablet watchers would see 25% in a segment they’ll only be in for 8 months a good start, even better than Android phones In the end people need to hope Apple, Android and MS keep things competitive. The more true players in the game the better the deals for consumers and businesses and progress in general.

    one thing nobody looks at is ….apple uses google apps, blackberry uses google, windows mobile uses google, and i have to say again that APPLE uses google……they can’t do it without google…..but google doesn’t use apple, blackberry, or windows…it doesn’t use shit besides its software and apps….apple can’t beat googles software and they damn sure can’t make a better phone then motorola or samsung….a computer company willl NEVER make a better phone than a PHONE company ….not one as big as motorola or samsung…..they’re to good….ios is good ….android is better
