HTC’s Desire HD gets FCC nod with North American 3G bands; coming to Telus

Hardware

Earlier today, HTC’s Desire HD crossed the FCC’s desk with a welcomed surprise, North American 3G bands. The 4.3-inch device — which boasts a 1GHz processor, 720p video recording, Android 2.2, and much more — is rocking WCDMA bands II and V, which makes AT&T, Bell, Telus, and Rogers all potential suitors.

Shortly after the news broke, a trusted BGR source came forward and stated that the device will definitely be hitting Canadian carrier Telus — an assertion blog Engadget also echoed. Our source indicated that they have physically seen a Telus branded Desire HD, running on Telus’ network, in the hands of a company representative. No word on when we could see this device officially come to market, but we’ll keep digging.

We’re happy for Telus customers and all, but wouldn’t this thing look extra sexy with a Death Star logo on it?

If I were too unlock this and use it on att… would i be able to use the hotspot feature without any additional charges?

      Not unless you root it.

Depends on what kind of port sniffing they’re running. You could just root and use barnacle fine I’m sure.

yes, at&t does not recognize a telus branded imei number in their system and lists the device as unknown. i’ve been using an htc telus hero in the US for a year and do not pay any additional fees over the medianet internet plan ($15) per month for full access with no limitations. this will only apply as long as at&t does not sell the device. once they load the device into their system, it will recognize it. the htc hero is great since at&t will never sell this older device. chances are at&t will not carry any high end android devices anyway so it’s worth the gamble.

Most likely. I’m using my Bell HTC Desire Z on AT&T with the $10 Family Data with zero limitations.

Oh and you can use the hotspot feature? cool thanks!

I would be more interested had this happened months ago, but now with the Olympus about to drop here in a month, it’s not appealing at all.

Unless HTC’s Sense is your prefer taste, then it might appeal to some people.

While I do prefer Sense over Blur, I’d still install LP and root. So, for me, it’s a hardware choice and the Desire HD is kind of old news when we’ve got Tegra 2 phones coming out.

Nice. 2011 is going to be an interesting year for smartphones. A good year to buy if you ask me.

I am wondering why HTC wouldn’t sell its devices unlocked here. I don’t want sign up for 2 years again with any carrier.

The vast majority of consumers in Canada/USA, but more so USA would just look at the outright cost and look for a contract and believe that they’re saving money.
