HTC Incredible HD to be officially named Thunderbolt 4G?

Here’s some speculative information on a handset we’ve been calling, up to this point, the HTC Incredible HD. The HD has not had the stealthiest pre-release life. You may remember that we first spotted the device way back in August and pegged it for release on U.S. carrier Verizon Wireless. Just last week, the device made a handful of cameos on various technology sites thanks to, what appeared to be, a controlled leak. Fast forward to today, and an ad campaign being run on blog Android Central may have revealed the handset name that HTC plans to go to market with. That name is… Thunderbolt 4G. An advert displayed on the site that mirrors the one pictured above directs users to a non-working website with the URL http://www.htc.com/4G?extcid=Thunderbolt-4G-Disp. Now, we’re obviously making some assumptions based on the URL string, but it doesn’t seem to be too out of whack with HTC’s naming conventions. What do you think of the name Thunderbolt 4G?

    It matches the television ad campaign that they have going where a guy in Ruraltown, USA gets an LTE thunderbolt in the mail from Verizon. He promptly then throws this to the sky after he opens the package.

    I am not sure how it tells me how LTE/4G works and how fast it is, but whatever.

      My phone did not come in a wooden box all nice and shiny let alone a light show when i got my hd2 from t-mobile. :( I guess that’s why verizon costs more.

      Please don’t get this mixed up with the DROID MERGE 4G, the DROID TERMINATOR 5G, or the DROID INCREDIBLE 2HD or DROID INCREDIBLE 2HD PRO 4GX. I’m sick all of you noobs who can’t keep these simple names in order to the appropriate devices. Each DROID is specially named to showcase it’s specialties, which are as you are well aware from our DROID DOES commercials.

        Again, I’m glad somebody here knows what’s goin on! If you can’t keep up, get an iphone. They just change one number in the name. That is usually the only thing they change about the phone. Sometimes they try to confuse you by adding a letter or two, but you can keep that straight.

        You can bet your sweet ass this will be in the Droid line…it’s Verizon’s first 4G phone! Not to mention that Verizon’s other two htc phones are in the Droid line…Eris and Incredible.

      No worries it is guaranteed to not have bing on it. It is going to be Verizons flagship phone so it will indeed be part of the Droid Line.

        You can’t have choice of screen size, form factor, or price point without some fragmentation. I buy htc highend because I know they update their phones in a timely manner. Therefore, fragmentation doesn’t affect me.

    I wouldn’t bet on thunderbolt being the name. Supersonic was used in url’s and leaks last year, and that became the Evo. Thunderbolt sounds like a codename.

    I hope they kill off “HD” in product names. How is the original incredible not HD with its 800×480 resolution? You can even argue that the original incredible is “more HD” since it has more ppi on it’s 3.7″ screen.

    I hope this is a winner. Also, not to sound whiny, but I hope its 4 inches and not 4.3 inches like the Droid X or Evo. 4.3 still feels a bit larger than I would like in my hands 4″ feels perfect for me. Either way I would still be very interested in the phone.

      FYI: 4″ screen phones are as big, or bigger than 4.3″ screen phones.

      EVO – 4.8 x 2.6 x ,5
      Epic – 4.9 x 2.56 x .55
      Fascinate – 4.9 x 2.54 x .39

      So, this idea that 4.3″ screen phones are too big, is straight bullshit. Oh, and this phone does have a 4.3″ screen. Haven’t you seen the pics?

        Alright, then I meant the design of the phone. I hope the ‘Thunderbolt’ feels a little bit better than the HTC Evo 4G, although so far the phones look like a copy/paste job.

        Good points on the dimensions of the phones. I’ve felt the EVO and the fascinate next to each other and its strange how the Fascinate feels smaller.

        I’ve seen pics of the ‘Thunderbolt’ just not ones measured against a ruler. I assumed it was 4.3″ because it seems like a EVO 4G follow up.

    I’m just wondering where the hell the HTC Merge is. I’m sick of Motorola’s Blur BS and I want a physical keyboard. For now, the “Fission” ROM is helping since it’s mostly blur-free, but the locked-down bootloader is a pile of crap…

    Another reason to dump ALL APPLE stock! I have dumped mine in favor of all the 100′s of chinese and taiwanese manufacturers building Android products. I can’t wait for this latest addition. I just got the Droid Pro, and now I can sell that one which I still have all the packaging to some idiot on eBay and get me this one and do the same thing next month and so on and so forth. It’s beautiful to have a new phone to play with every couple of weeks.

        Bought my Evo in June. Nothing has come out to beat it yet. This vzw 4G phone is just their version of what I already have : )

      Thunderbolt is just the codename, like supersonic is the codename for the Evo. I don’t know why these blogs are running with this codename, proclaiming it to be tge actual name.

    How is this going to differ from the EVO? And if it is better than the EVO, will Sprint get this phone?

      It has a bigger kickstand. That’s the only difference known so far. Iti s basically Verizon’s Evo.

    I don’t like it because it reminds me of the phone that I’ve been waiting to replace for 2 years. The Storm 1. I’ve had bad luck with the Storm and I’ve been waiting to get this HTC phone, so hopefully it’s not a bad sign going from the Storm to the Thunderbolt haha.

    You really want to know what I think? After reading some of posts on the Foxxconn worker abuse thread I think SOME users on here should take that new Thunderbolt handset and shove it straight up their ignorant asses. Considering those people are such huge assholes it would probably fit.
