ComScore: Facebook third largest site on the net

General

Another milestone for Facebook on its slow march towards world domination. According to analytics company ComScore, Facebook has overtaken search-centric Yahoo! to become the world’s third largest website (when measured by unique visits). The social networking site is raking in just under 650 million unique visitors each month, trailing only Microsoft and Google. If it is any consolation to Yahoo! they still rank first in unique visitors in the U.S., although… Facebook does account for nearly 25% of all online ad impressions served in the States — over twice as many as Yahoo!.

Wait, what is the definition of a “unique visitor?” someone who has never been to the FB website before? If so, FB will quickly lose this position because, doing the math, there cant be many “unique visitors” left wordlwide. But maybe I dont know the correct definition of unique visitor.

unique visitor doesn’t mean it’s your first time ever hitting the site, it means if you go to the site one time that month, you get counted as 1. if you go 100 times that month, you still get counted as just 1 visitor.

Honest question: who’s going to Microsoft’s site that often? I mean, does using the Windows Update link count as visiting the site or something? Other than that, I probably haven’t been that way in two months.
