Samsung’s SCH-I520 Android handset packs LTE and front-facing camera; headed to Verizon

Hardware

When it rains 4G LTE handsets it pours them, no? Gizmodo has been sent in another image of a second, and until now unknown, Samsung, Android, LTE handset — the SCH-I520. The device runs Android 2.2.1, had a front-facing camera, and, according to reports, will have the TouchWiz interface but not be Bing’ed out. Decisions, decisions. Do we go with the Incredible HD or this offering from Sammy? What a great predicament to be in.

    I’d go for the Moto device with the tegra 2, as long as it isn’t locked, aww hell im probably just going to get it even if it is locked, a lot of good it did the Droid X and Droid 2, we rooted those quickly enough

    looks tight!

  • Jwilliam026

    Not a fan of plastic garbage suck on a months old version of android. The screen will no doubt be beautiful though.

      I’d try Sammy if they had the build quality of their Galaxy Tab, or an HTC, or Motorola Device. But, with the cheap, Fisher Price feel of the Omnia and Galaxy S series devices….its a NO!

      • lolcat

        I have a fascinate and have no idea what you are talking about by a cheap feel. The entire phone is one solid slab of Gorilla Glass. Oh it has a plastic back that is completely meaningless to the function of the phone. Get a clue n00b.

        Now if you want to complain about the GPS, touchwiz or lack of updates. Those are valid criticisms.

  • JoeBold

    i would go with HTC. touch responsiveness on Sense UI is much better, and the overall the Interface just feels better then both TouchWiz and Semi-Blur-Moto. only the Battery issues, of course. which HTC somehow manages to excel in, wink, wink.

  • BDUS

    HTC all the way. KFC Taco Bell all the way. Double rainbow

    This would win my vote, but it all depends on how open the device truly is.

    IncredibleHD seems like the best bet for techno snobs though.

  • Tanuj

    Since you guys are BoyGeniusReport, I don’t see what’s stopping you guys from getting both the Incredible HD and this Sanding device.

    All of these DROIDleaks are making my pen15 hard. I love DROID and DROID news. DROID DOES!

    Will the GPS on this be borked as well?

        Congratulations… you are one of the few Galaxy S series owners to be blessed with working GPS.

    Fascinate 2???

  • Antonio Graves

    And according to Phonedog this has no bing so Ill defently skip the HTC Binged 4g device for Sammy and all of its Super Amoled Goodness

    I would love to have this phone but samsungs lack of froyo updates on the Galaxy S line means that this might not see ginerbread for a year. NO THANKS. even though MOTO locks their devices down now, they have been rooted and hacked quickly enough! Plus a tegra 2 will be better than this phone prob still running a 1ghz hummingbird processor

    • Anonymous

      MOTO puts MOTOBLUR on their devices which is arguably worse than TouchWiz, secondly, MOTO is king of either delayed or bad updates. The CLIQ XT just got pushed back!

  • Davedavesteeve

    Now, I start to believe The Apple/AT&T 5 year contract will stay as is. No verizon IPhone until 2012.

    • Mgl323

      T-Mobile USA perhaps?

      • Davedavesteeve

        Quite frankly , it seems that T- Mobile USA might have a better shot at it. With all these android phones, now in LTE flavor , a plain CDMA iphone doesn’t make sense. It will be like a downgrade. I have an Iphone 4 with AT&T. I would be the first to switch for a CDMA/LTE iPhone.

    • Anonymous

      I would never use an iPhone but I was looking forward to a VZW iPhone just to shake things up a bit, but VZW is going full steam ahead ad Apples perfectionist design philosophy just can’t keep up with 4 different major manufacturers having an all out Android slugfest. To maximize sales on T-mo, Sprint, or VZW the next iPhone will need to have/ be “4G-ish?”… Anyway Apple would still make a killing anywhere, but to be AT&T successful another carrier would have to make major changes that go against the billions of dollars they have been spending. Apple needs to hurry up Android may be less profitable but it’s gaining steam fast..

  • Mgl323

    Well well well, It looks like Verizons LTE and Sprints Wimax networks have been blessed by the ITU to be considered 4G networks. Source? Cnet.

    LOOK AT HOW BLURRRRRY THAT TEXT IS~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!@@#$ OMG

    not

  • kyle

    Incred HD vs This? They have the same pros (mostly), so lets weigh cons…

    ~~~~~~~~~
    Sense -VS- Touchwiz
    Updates come 6 months late -VS- Updates never fkn come
    8MP of garbage imagery -VS- 5MP of garbage imagery (this is my guess)
    LCD that’s impossible to see in the light -VS- amoled that’s impossible to get replaced
    Looks great but deceptively less powerful than samsung devices -VS- Looks like a child’s toy but somehow packs more punch than HTC under the hood
      Why did you even waste your time to post that? I would love to see a link to a source for every trollpinion you posted…
  • Sonya
    Which it had Sense UI as oppose to TouchWiz. I’m not getting anything until I see what happens in the summer about the iPhone.
    Why the Sammy = Samsung
  • https://me.yahoo.com/a/zM29cUFkh.daFXOuvOeZBD2pxccV2uAUY5MaKoc-#50f84 Mike
    With the Samsung Galaxy S GPS debacle and how long it takes them to release firmware updates, I’d go HTC.
  • http://twitter.com/hijackerjack Rohil Thopu
    I would seriously take this any day.
  • Sean76
    Samsung deserves zero, and I mean zero love from us the consumer. Since they have basically locked the Galaxy owners out of an Android update since the release God knows how long ago, I’d say all the Fascinate owners should skip anything they release with 4G at CES. And if they even have the balls to release this device with 2.2, all the while HTC and Moto are bringing the Heat with 2.3, well lets just say they can keep they’re pretty screens Forever.
  • Gavin
    No predicament. It’s gonna be released with 2.2, while everyone will be releasing with 2.3 and then updating to 3.0. And you’ll still be on 2.2. Samsung has lost my respect. (I own a fascinate)
  • MyPhoneCaptivates
    2.1…..Seriously? They have been promising 2.2 for the Galaxy S line for awhile, and they are releasing this after the Nexus S with gingerbread. I’m really pissed off that they haven’t offically released 2.2 at this point I would expect them to just put out 2.3 on all these freaking’ phones. I’m so glad the captivate has a pretty epic community. I think I’ll get some gingerbread before the Nexus One thanks to a few XDA members.
    • MyPhoneCaptivates
      My bad, didn’t look very closely. I guess I was too busy being pissed off about the galaxy S support to realize its on 2.2 (when 2.3 is out.)
  • http://twitter.com/wilsont08 WT
    Is it built like a Hasbro toy? Love the screen, hate the crappy plastic build. Why can’t Samsung phones be built like their higher end TVs…
