Augmented Reality capability found in Mobile Safari browser

mobile

It seems that an AR-like capability within Mobile Safari has gone pretty much unnoticed (or at least unimplemented by a third party) until now. Occipital, a company that has developed a panoramic photo iPhone app, has come across the new feature in Safari for iOS 4.2 devices, and it’s related to the gyroscope. If you have an iOS device with a gyropscope (iPhone 4, latest iPod touch) you can try a live demo for yourself. It’s ridiculously impressive, and by using the gryoscope and a panorama image, you can deliver an augmented reality type of experience right in the Web browser itself. Hit up http://occip.it/pt3dmqna from your iOS browser directly to check out the demo.

That’s pretty cool, but DROID already DOES this.

why do you see the need to say this? who care except you? Nobody iphone fans will like to know it.

Android fans are already pleased with what they have and BB fans too.

So it’s cool to know. At least someone try to teach basic user about new functionality on their phone.

      Enjoy Iphone users!

(PS: I’m no iphone fan nor BB fan. i own the a HTC Desire, Iphone 4 and a BB 9780 and i like every device like they are)

And so has iPhone, but nobody discovered the functionality built into safari until now. Are you suggesting websites such as this have been around on android, or even that this particular site works on a droid phone? Because last I checked, Droids don’t have a gyroscope??

If you are SO in love with your DROID, why do you read Apple / iPhone articles and spend the time and effort posting stupid remarks like this? Sounds to me like you are sour that you do not have an iPhone.

Have you guys not been on this site long enough to realize that Norm trolls around and posts sarcastic anti-Android posts under the guise of an Android loyalist? Stick around, the monotony of the humor will exhaust you after a while. He, for some reason, still thinks it’s the funniest stuff going. He’s a one trick pony and, might I say, quite the douche.

You stay away from my brother. I swear, I will, I will, argh!!!!! Don’t make me angry! You won’t like me when I get angry!

      Droids have an Gyroscope? Really?

      • Anonymous

Sorry to feed the troll but some of the Galaxy S phones have gyroscopes listed in their specs.

      • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

And it does it MUCH BETTER than the iPhone. Thanks to the POWER of Android!

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

There you are my brother! Does it and it does it without consuming ANY battery. In fact, now you can actually generate power (charge) by engaging the gyroscope. The faster you go around the more the battery fills and the more energy you generate.

Cant do it with my iPhone 4, how to engage Gyroscope, anyone?

    • http://twitter.com/3lb34st Alexandre Renaud

      you need ios 4.2.1

  • Warloc66

Just played around with it. Very cool.

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

If you think that’s cool, wait ’til you try it on an Android phone! Now that, is gyring!

  • Newshot

iphone 4 does not have gorilla glass, in fact it scratches easily, and breaks. I’m a dealer and I know.

How does this remotely relate to how iOS Safari supports built-in gyroscopes?!
      Ugh… stupid trolls
