Nexus S U.K. launch delayed; price drop confirmed

mobile

Following the great news that Google’s unlocked Nexus S would be £429.99 at launch in the U.K. instead of £549.99 as it was initially announced, Carphone Warehouse has confirmed that the smartphone’s launch will be delayed. Fortunately, our friends across the pond only have a few days to wait — the Nexus S will now become available exclusively through Carphone Warehouse on Wednesday, December 22nd, for free on contract or the aforementioned £429.99 contract-free. We reviewed the Google Nexus S recently and found it to be our favorite Android phone on the market at this time, in spite of its cheap-feeling high-gloss plastic body. Hit the break for the full press note from Carphone Warehouse.

That cheap feeling, glossy body can be cured with a case…something everyone should have on their phone. But I do agree, shiny black plastic has no place on high-end devices.

Be thankful we have it over here in the U.S. People across the pond, it looks like you’re not getting it for the holidays! (First Comment)

I don’t understand. . .2.3 has been out for a couple weeks now. Why can’t you just download it from Google and install it on the phone? Oh, wait, my bad. I guess “open” doesn’t include downloading software updates.

Now now Perspectively, lets take an honest look at the DROID OS. You see, each DROID is not the same. The DROID OS must be modified to fit the needs of each carrier and the respective DROID device. The DROID OS is so powerful that it must be carefully manipulated to adhere to special software that Verizon has over At&t. Each update must be rigorously tested by each manufacture and then each carrier to ensure the best possible DROID experience. For example, one of my DROIDs, the DROID X, went to from early September all the way to last week with a very poorly implemented DROID OS 2.2. While Google could have just sent out a standard DROID 2.2 to all devices and carriers they made the wise decision to let carriers and manufactures play mad scientist. And though many aspects of my DROID X were unusable and quite frustrating for 3 months, it was all worth it so they could get me an update last week that fixed about 75% of the issues. I’ll take that any day over a centralized release system like crApple.

      I will feed you troll.
I don’t think it’s been out for a couple weeks, I think it was announced two weeks ago and pushed to AOSP a couple days ago.
Does your iphone get the update the day lord jobs drops it from the heavens?
Also, consider how amazing android has done with all of its flaws, what do you think will happen if they start to get the wrinkles ironed out?
Keep up your negativity though, I’m sure your “perspective” is greatly appreciated by many, and makes your life that much more enjoyable.

    Clever sales ploy, eh?
Advertise at 550 then adjust to 430; makes you think you’re getting a bargain.
No bloomin’ FM radio – I’ll give you 200 for one tops.
Anyhoo, dual-cores have already signed it’s death warrant. Bye bye Christmas Cracker phone…
