Sprint rolling out Android 2.2 to Samsung Intercept

Software

In a forum post today, Sprint announced that it will begin rolling out an update to the Samsung Intercept handset. The update’s biggest payload will be an update from Eclair (Android 2.1) to Froyo (Android 2.2). Other niceties detailed by Sprint include:

Enhancements/Fixes:
- Sprint Navigation
- Dropped calls after unacknowledged call waiting
- Force Close message when opening up contacts

Important Notes:
-The software version is: S:M910.05.S.DL05
-The build version is: Froyo.DL05

The post notes that the update will be pushed in “waves” and users should be receiving it over next several days.

Wow… this gets 2.2 before the Epic. I’m starting to wonder if it’s the carriers that are taking so long to upgrade the Galaxy S line or if Samsung is just being that slow.

Or like i have been thinking maybe they will Skip 2.2 for the GS’S and go right to 2.3 its a long shot but would be nice though

It’s the first one. The Intercept is also on Virgin Mobile, I would be SURPRISED if it’s also getting FroYo today and not at a later date.

Im running the unofficial 2.2 from Sprint on my Epic and it’s pretty damn good. If you guys on an Epic want all of the 2.2 benefits with only a few small problems try it out.

The only problem I have noticed is the task manager isn’t updated to froyo yet

the intercept did come out b4 the epic, imo its only fair, plus you could just install with update.zip then wait for official while still enjoying unofficial

Yes! Just in time to still be out of date.

    Smooth, Sprint and Samsung. Smooth.

Update hit my Intercept this afternoon. Overall the aesthetics of it are pretty cool. I haven’t had a chance to play with it much but it seems to be a sweet little update. I know that pushing updates can be pretty intensive on their data network, but I don’t get why they are not letting any 2.2.x capable device pull it from the start. Sure, it could be a huge hit to traffic, but many other mobile devices that have firmware/software updates get to request it at will. (generally speaking) I’m curious how long it will take to get this widespread? This update hit my phone, but not my wife’s phone. Our numbers just have the last digit that is different so it is kind of odd. (at least to me.) Hope those of you with other models get your update soon. It’s not that difficult for a manufacturer to determine if the spec’s of a device will handle it. meh….

HAHA!!! I just love seeing all these folks complain about not getting updates! Welcome to the nightmare Steve Jobs calls Android, where fragmentation is normal and should be expected.

It’s like who do they care about more high end android users, mid grade, low end phones. It’s comical. It’s almost fun to watch, who do you blame? The carrier? The handset maker? Have fun making those phone calls and get a bunch of “try to calm you down and just wait it out” answers.

No wonder there is so much interest in a Verizon iPhone, where you know that major updates come once a year that pretty much last a full year without kicking yourself in the head for buying this or that and waiting for the software update.

Why is this one getting froyo … Why they left the HERO behind?
