Best Buy mysteriously halts sale of Verizon’s DROID 2 Global, DROID Pro

Retail

Here’s a head scratcher. Several of our Best Buy ninjas have come forward to let us know that Best Buy Mobile is informing employees that it will no longer be selling the Verizon Wireless’ DROID 2 Global and DROID Pro. Explanations run the gamut, several sources have referenced that exploding (probably not exploding) handset we reported about last week, while others are blaming a handset pricing disputed between the big box retailer and America’s largest cellular carrier. Whatever the reason is , it has not been clearly communicated to employees or the media at this time. We’ve reached out to both Best Buy and Verizon Wireless to see if either party would like to clarify why the two members of the DROID family are no longer on BBY’s store shelves. We’ll report back with any clarification we get.

why would that matter, if these two phones just came out. That would be very dumb biz on Verizons part. It seems that this Google Android Oversaturation is getting worst already.

Well there was recent heavy discounts from Bestbuy for the Pro. I could see where they might be a hard sell early next year if the iRumors are true.

Earpeice speaker issues? Both models reportedly have this problem. And if it’s hardware-related instead of software, there is no quick fix.

That’s about all you ever hear from Verizon is rumors. Perhaps these devices have not been selling well. Common Jan for Sprint and the HTC Knight.

Maybe they didn’t like the snowman ad? Didn’t it have both of those phones in the commercial for the snowman’s eyes?

Side note: Man, somebody get that kind in the pic some shoes. Yellow? He shouldn’t be allowed to dress himself if that’s what he comes up with.

The only reason they dont sell it is because they didnt obey MAP rules. They advertised those phones at below what Verizon says the minimum advertised price should be and the hammer fell on them.

Responding to reports that Best Buy stores have yanked stock of the Motorola Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global due to a product recall, Verizon Wireless said that’s not the case. Spokesperson Brenda Raney said in an email to Phone Scoop, “We can’t speak for Best Buy — but both the Droid Pro or the Droid 2 Global are popular sellers. How they manage their inventory is their business but there are no recalls on those devices.” Several Best Buy retail locations contacted by Phone Scoop reported that they pulled the devices from store shelves today for an unknown reason. Consumers interested in the Droid Pro or Droid 2 Global can find them elsewhere.

The rumors are correct about Best Buy and Verizon Wireless not seeing eye to eye on pricing. Basically Verizon is upset that Best Buy is offering the phones much cheaper then the Corporate Verizon Stores. So Verizon suspended Best Buy from even activating the phones. Dont know if that is legal…
