Google TV updated with Netflix, dual view, and voice enabled Android app

Software

Things have been fairly quiet in Google TV-land since the service launched back in October, that is until today. Google has announced an automatic, over-the-air update being pushed out to GTV owners. The update includes: an updated Netflix app with more streaming titles and the ability to add DVDs to your mailing queue, an enhanced “dual view” that will allow a movable, re-sizable picture-in-picture window to be displayed, a voice-actions enabled remote control application for Android smartphones, and more movie sources. The company reports that users should begin seeing this update roll out to their devices “throughout the week,” and that the Google TV Remote app is “available today” but “all features may not work until your device has received the update.” Hit the jump to see a quick video demo of the mobile app.

Kind of off topic, but has anyone tried voice recognition with Android that has an accent? All voice recognition software I’ve tried seems to have trouble with some words. The only way I can make it recognize what I’m saying is if I speak extra clear (at the expense of sounding like a retard). If it is close to the tech Google uses it its iPhone app…that’s not too bad.

I was wondering the same thing. Now that they are building the voice profiles for each person I wonder if they are going to abandon their plans for doing regional accents(American only I think i.e. NorthEast Mid West, South East etc.)
I assume you are talking about British though?

Western-European. The only way I see voice recognition as being useful is if it recognizes the same tone of voice you use when speaking to a regular human. I think we still have about 5 years to go until we reach that point – right now you have to keep a constant volume to your voice, as well as a fairly distinct tone.

As I understand it you are supposed to speak to it as you would a person. I have a near flawless experience just simply talking to it, where as my buddy talks to it like a half-deaf robot and has little success.

MORE MORE MORE HD Movie Streaming titles and I’ll consider jumping ship to something like this.

Right now I’m hooked on having some premium channels with movie’s in HD waiting for me to watch… also nice to have all the HBO and Showtime shows I enjoy sitting there ready to be streamed in HD as well… (its not the cheapest way to get content but it works well for me)

I honestly don’t think blueray will last nearly as long as DVD did. I’m doing my best to skip the entire format. My shelves now have BOOKS! on them again… I don’t plan on amassing a collection of titles (blueray’s) nor am I going to get into the mail-queue-thing. Keep the net-neutrality ball rolling and give me some hot streaming ish that makes me want to drop loads of bandwidth all over my living room!

        hmm… neither…

I guess my general point there was… physical media is becoming far less important than it was before…

if I’m off base there… please enlighten me…
