Video of Android 2.3 running on Motorola DROID X emerges, less BLURry [Updated]

mobile

Well what do we have here? It looks like a video of Verizon’s Motorola DROID X running an early alpha build of Google’s latest mobile OS iteration, Android 2.3. The software being demoed has a build number of VZW-TestKeys-280657 and baseband version BP_C_01.09.07P. As the video maker notes, Motorola’s BLUR UI is playing a much less prominent roll in this particular build. It is described as “a background service used to improve the functionality and linkage of Google Apps.” Very exciting stuff. No indication of when a non-alpha, non-beta, production ready version will be ready for public consumption… but it’s good to know Verizon and Motorola are actively working on the update. Hit the break, the video is waiting for you!

UPDATE: As several commenters have pointed out, this could be the ApeX ROM (which is skinned to look like Android 2.3) loaded onto a DROID X. We’ve reached out to the video’s creator asking for a little more concrete proof and will report back if they respond.

omg i want it now! and if it stays blurless like this it’ll be even better

Btw, did anyone get the new update that just came out? Its not 2.3, just some bug fixes…I just did it last night. Hopefully it proves a bit more stable than the 2.2 release.

      • Christian

yah but for some reason my dx shut downs for no reason

  • Jeffola

Why does the clock look so “SENSE UI”?

    • palomosan

That’s an app called Beautiful Widgets…that’s just a custom Rom.

      • http://www.agrstech.com Zephaniah

Which means that this is probably just the APEX ROM.

  • Sean76

Awesome….2.3 will make it to the Droid before the Fascinate even gets 2.2! Good job vzw/Samsung…

  • Alfonskr

There’s a rom out that makes it look just like gingerbread so this could just be that especially considering that’s htc’s widget on the phone.

    • Joshnichols1

Or you know he could have an app called “Fancy Widget” or “Beautiful Widgets” which also give the Sense UI clock.

  • trg32

I’m not saying I don’t believe this, but I’ve been running ApeX 1.3 on my Droid X for a few days now and literally everything shown (except the about screen) in this video could be exhibited by any phone running this rom. hmmmm.

why is this news…i already have that baseband……this is apeX rom that is made from 2.3.340 which is why his fat thumb is trying to block that from being seen. This is the worst thing I have ever seen.

    • http://twitter.com/mfg68 Matt Galo

Yeah, same baseband as the recent Droid X update. Lol

This isn’t Gingerbread. The icons along the top are not green and the bar along the top is grey, not black. This is simply one of many Gingerbread ROMs/themes floating around out there.

  • grrr

My x looks exactly like that running an almost stock rom and gingerbread theme. This could be a faker.

If not, then unfortunately blur will probably be added back in no time. I don’t see moto releaseing an update without it.

  • Donny

I can’t wait to finally get this at the beginning on July 2011 when they push OTA. I can hardly wait!

  • Jdfairchild

This is definitely a fake. The Apex animations are a dead giveaway, they are not part of the official 2.3 build. This guys obviously messed with the build.prop settings to make it look like an official 2.3 build in “About Phone”.

  • trg32

also, the System version is “Version2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US” (a.k.a the OTA update for froyo that verizon just released last week)
if you’re going to tweak the build.prop, why leave this the same? this is definitely ApeX. sorry guys.

Andrew, you got snookered. I have that same build just like everyone else. It’s that awsome rom Apex.

    • http://www.bgr.com Andrew Munchbach

Yes, it is starting to look that way. The email address of the donkey who submitted this POS has officially been filed in the “Not to be trusted…” folder I have setup. They are also off my Christmas card list. Blah.

I agree. I know nothing about Droid X ROMs, but when you have a HTC Sense like clock/weather widget like you have here, you can pretty much guarantee that this is not an officially sanctioned Moto/Verizon build. It’s great that they are getting 2.3 ported to the ROMs, but this ain’t the “real” deal.

Unrelated but the cat in your avatar is ridiculously cute!

        Thanks. It’s my cat.

ur right, but i have the official beta 2.2 non rooted on my Epic with a sense clock…

  • Sephtin

    Kernel is 2.3.340 (OTA) kernel).
This is most certainly a themed Blur based ROM.

  • sirpaul

He sounds like he’s about to start beatboxing at 0:27

    LOL!!!

If this is Gingerbread then I guess I am running Gingerbread….This ApeX 1.3.0 ROM is sweet…

  • Anonymous

hahaha this is hilarious how fake this is. pathetic.

  • JoelWRX

In my own defense I don’t even own a Droid X this model was given to me by a trusted (not anymore) friend in Moto R&D.
Once the validity of the information arised I reasearhed current kernels etc and reached out to my “friend” obv I was took and in return so was BGR.
Sorry for the false alarm/waste of time.

    • D0gswind

You knew what it was. That thumb didn’t magically cover that 2.3.340

      • JoelWRX

Im sorry you are incorrect all I personally was focusing on was Android 2.3 my thumb didn’t cover anything.. the whole list was visible when scrolling through the about screen my thumb stayed stationary and wasn’t following whatever section that was listed under.

But since You know me so well thanks for pointing my intentions out to me, how could I have been so blind?

      • Ccrsems5

Let it go. This guy wouldn’t be on here if he was purposefully doing this, he’d just disappear. His friend is an ass, no biggie. I say benefit of the doubt here. Jeesh, leave him alone.

  • Trophynuts

i’ve been running the Apex rom for a week now. Its very nice. Very very snappy

  • http://twitter.com/MrUniq78 Christopher

Doesn’t look fake to me, there are clear UI differences between the ROM and that screenie. People are quick to judge.
