Verizon working on CDMA to LTE hand-off delay, Mac drivers

According to a spokesperson, Verizon Wireless is working on a fix for a hand-off delay that some users are experiencing on the company’s new Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The delay, which can last up to two minutes, occurs when the USB data stick attempts to switch from CDMA to LTE — the modem is not responsive during that time. The issue has been reported by several members of the press and early device testers.

In the same breath, Verizon also noted that it is actively working on Mac drivers for its LTE hardware. Although no specific timetable was given, the spokesperson did say that the software would be available “relatively soon.”

    And my LTE speeds sure dropped off fast. I was bragging to everyone how I was getting 12 Mbps and higher consistently. Since Saturday my speeds dropped off between 2-7 Mbps on the downlink. Still better than the 1 Mbps speeds I used to get with my Verizon USB760 but I didn’t think it would drop off so dramatically so fast.

    Also I was under the impression that 700 MHz penetrates better than cellular 850 MHz spectrum but so far in our building at work we still get 1xRTT downstairs/warehouse and 3G upstairs (we have a lot of windows upstairs but only get 4G when we go outside. Does this mean that Verizon has not retrofitted all our local cell sites with 4G panels yet?
