BlackBerry News Feeds beta launches

mobile

If you have been itching for a decent RSS feed reader on the BlackBerry platform, you’ve finally got one. RIM just let us know that they have created an app called BlackBerry News Feeds, which conveniently aggregates and serves up all of your RSS feeds in a clean and easy to use app. We have been testing the app on and off for a little bit, and while there is no Google Reader support (the biggest omission), it is pretty easy to add feeds, bounce through unread items, mark them read, and share them as well. BlackBerry News Feeds is available from BlackBerry App World and BlackBerry Beta Zone starting today.

No Google Reader support? Who cares then!

without the google reader support, it’s just another list for me to manage. I’ll pass.

Is this the reason that RIM bought Viigo?
Bummer about there not being google reader support

Searched App World and nothing in there yet. Maybe select regions at the moment? Nothing in BetaZone for me either…

Viigo still isn’t OS6 compatible…its had no updates since the sale and has been left to rot at the moment. Shame.

I think that was the point and most likely this app and the OS6 feed is derived from what they got out of Viigo. RIM Wanted RSS native so they grabbed the best out there to keep it off devices and go their own way with it.

Now you’ve mentioned that, it seems quite obvious. Shame though because Viigo was a great sleek app.

Can’t find it in AppWorld or BZ. And what’s up with comments having to be approved now?

“The app will be rolling out to the Beta Zone and BlackBerry App World Test Center over the course of the day today, so if you don’t see it now just check back later.” – CrackBerry

No Google Reader support. Because I don’t read RSS feeds anywhere other than my Blackberry. Typical RIM.

go to blackberry app world from your computer, search blackberry news feeds and scan the barcode. i ahve it now on my 9780

    • Spid

How do you scan the barcode? I took a picture of it but nothing happened…

So, you make an RSS app, then you omit one, if not, the biggest aggregator out there. What the hell has happened to you RIM? It’s like you continually want your company to fail.

    • Justcorbly

Any RSS reader is an aggregator. If you like Google Reader, just point a browser at it. You don’t need another reader.

  • Justcorbly

How and why do people use Google Reader? I’ve been using NetNewsWire for years. Took a look at Google Reader when it launched and decided it was slow and clumsy. These days, NetNewsWire synchs with Google Reader, but that’s pretty useless to me. I really don’t care about synching news feeds. I’m clever enough to know what I’ve already read.

If I want to read my feeds on a second device, I can export an OPML file from NNW and import it into the reader on the second device.

So, ideally, I’d like a version of NNW for Blackberry. Failing that, I’d like Blackberry’s app to iport my OPML file.

    • DavidB

Why would you want to futz with exporting and importing and whatever? That’s totally lame. A proper news reader client should synchronize with Google Reader is everyone’s point. WITHOUT you having to do anything special. If you read it on your BB it won’t show up as unread via browser, and vice versa. BerryReader does this already.

wish it gains Google Reader sync in the next Beta

  • Spid

Annoying, doesn’t let you download it if you’re in the UK

    RIM is so dead….

my 9630 cant support more than 12 apps.

  • Joegoblyn

theres like 4 minor fixes that would make this a perfect translation of viigo. i dont understand why google reader support is so necessary to everyone on here, it does the same thing. i’ve used viigo way more than google reader forever.

Go f*uck your iphone or something since its the only thing you’d ever get. I have a iphone 4 and I had a g2 not everyones a fu*king nerd like you faggot. I need my blackberry to actually get emails when they come in not 48 hours late like on a iphone and its crappy os. Thanks a lot for sterotyping me as a teenybooper!
