Propelled by Kinect, Microsoft’s Xbox outsells Wii, PS3 again

According to analytics firm NPD Group, Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console has outsold Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3 for the sixth consecutive month. Microsoft moved roughly 1.37 million consoles during November, representing a 68% increase from the same period last year. Several weeks ago, the Redmond company announced that it had sold over 2.5 million Kinect motion-controllers since its November 4th launch.

“The 360 platform accounted for over 40 percent of total industry sales driven by the successful launch of Microsoft’s Kinect,” wrote Anita Frazier, an NPD Group analyst. “Xbox 360 accessories accounted for 60 percent of that category’s dollar sales this month.”

The gaming industry saw $2.76 billion in sales this past November; up 2% year-over-year.

      I only use my ps3 for bluray movies unfortunatly, we still play way more games on the xbox and Wii.

    Even though it’s still outsold the PS3 for the last 6 months, there still haven’t been nearly as many XBox 360s sold as there have been PS3s… and that’s even figuring in people that had to buy a new XBox 360 because theirs RROD’d.

      According to every tracking firm worldwide 360 is still in 2nd place with a 3 to 4 million lead over ps3.

      Maybe by the end of this generation in 2012/13 PS3 will have gained 2nd place, but meh, Wii is still the far more dominant player. Just sucks the 3rd parties don’t put effort on it. Glad I have a PS3 to also play with.

    Count me as one of those 1.37 million.

    We have 2 PS3s and a Wii and I never wanted to buy an Xbox. Then along comes the Kinect and once again Balmer digs into my wallet.

    Now waiting for Air Band DJ Hero.

      Kinect is $150 stand alone….. and the lowest x360 bundle with Kinect is $300. Not exactly sure what you’re talking about.

    The Wii could be better if they would have included a dvd drive and better graphics. It is still a fun gaming console for the family and with the netflix app on it now its even better.

    They only sold more because people had to replace them due to the red ring of death! Why in the world would people buy an Xbox when you can get a game system that includes blu-ray capability and free online gaming? If the graphics are truly better on an xbox you would have to be a videophile to notice. Xbox sucks and so does Microsoft!

      THE RROD argument is such BS. If you were truly mad at xbox, you wouldn’t buy another one that broke. I dont know anyone that had to buy a new one for the RROD.

      PS3 has superior graphics, fact. Xbox has more games and more stable Internet but at a cost.

      facts are the facts, xbox beats ps3, but you can justify however you like owning the last place system. It wont be the same next time around. A lot of ppl will leave xbox next system if PS3 keeps their internet free

        Actually most PS3 games are running at 720p. Proven fact. I have both 360 and PS3 and I only use my PS3 for Blu-Ray as well. But here is what most PS3 fanboys WONT admit. WHAT ABOUT THE YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH?? No one ever brings that up. True the RROD made some of us pissed, but Microsoft BACKED their product with an additional 2 years because they knew it was a design flaw. That is TRYING to protect the consumers. When I heard about the Slim model, I bought it 48 hours later. The Slim runs like a hummingbird. Now back to the YLOD. This usually happened AFTER a year after purchase. A number of complaints about Laser Eye Rot and the fact that it happened almost exactly after the factory warranty expired. Guess what? $150 repair. I couldn’t tell you how pissed I would be if that happened after I bought the original $500 or $600 models. I have a refurbished 60GB this is backwards compatible and it took a hell of a long time to find it. So imagine if you spent $600 on the orig. 60GB and a year later, it messes up. Then you spend an additional $150 to fix it. That’s $750. That’s 2 XBOX 360s with $100 to spare. So with the argument that people bought more than 1 XBOX, how many people have purchased more than 1 PiSS3??
