Verizon Wireless fixes 3G data network glitch; affected Web browsing only

General

Verizon Wireless just sent us a statement on its brief 3G network glitch that happened last night and early this morning — our devices seemed to act fine, but apparently the glitch had to do with Internet browsing on devices. Full service has been completely restored at this point, but here’s the full statement for those who are interested:

Last night, during routine maintenance of our 3G network, a technical glitch hampered the ability of customers to reach the Internet through web browsers on their phones. This technical glitch lasted from approximately 1:40 am – 5 am ET, and covered a large proportion of our regular network. 3G network coverage was never out, just this one particular service. Full capabilities were fully restored at approximately 5 am ET. We apologize to any and all affected customers.

Ugh…spent close to 3 hours on the phone with VZW yesterday trying to resolve this issue. No one could figure it out and they claimed they had no knowledge of any technical issues on their side. I actually started noticing the issue on Monday morning. I could’ve been using that time to figure out what the hell Mike Lazaridis was talking about.

Verizon has a glitch with their 3G in downtown Columbus Ohio….from 9 am to about 2 PM every day their data network comes to a crawl. 257 kbps right now, full bars 3G….terrible…slower than EDGE was on At&t or Tmobile.

No problems here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I didn’t even know there was a problem until I read this article.

So they basically said their network had no data “but 3G still worked”. ???wtf??? So what, the calls are faster? That’s like saying the processor is fried “but the computer still works”.

No, you missed the point. They said 3G still worked. You could check your e-mail, use a twitter app, or any other 3G data related activity or app on your phone. You just could not browse the web on it.

Phone calls don’t use EvDO (3G) on CDMA. Voice is 1X. Data is 1X or EvDO.

I guess the lightening bolt the kid threw hit a tower….poor aim.

No Pandora, no interwebs, no data at all from like 12am til at least 4. Does VZ ever tell the truth? see:mysterious data fees. First step, act like nothing went wrong. Step two, when people complain and the FCC investigates add a $2 credit to their bill. How many millions did VZ make off those data charges? Less than they paid back in fines and credits.

Whats the big deal here? The glitch is nothing to be concerned about its just Norm playing with his 75 Droid handsets. He does have an army of Droids how else would he get the latest Android OS.

Verizon, please do not become AT&T.

No wonder my gps wasn’t working last night, and i needed it badd lol

Wait a minute. Pretty much all the Verizon 3G network does is access the network. I don’t know of any phones that use EV-DO technology for making and receiving phone calls or text messages. So much for ruling the air. I’m sure Apple is watching this development very closely.
