Best Buy Mobile offering iPhone 3GS for free on December 10th

We just received a tip from a Best Buy ninja of ours, and well, it seems that Radio Shack isn’t the only game in town in you’re looking for an Apple iPhone. Best Buy will be offering up Apple’s iPhone 3GS for free for one day only, this Friday the 10th. This offer is valid to both new lines, additional lines, and also qualified upgrades. We have been told that all stores have inventory levels to support the promotion, and it’s an instant rebate type deal. Who’s up for a free iPhone?

    According to the Apple fanbois, any discount of product is a sure sign it’s a failure (see their numerous rants on discounted cell phones). So I guess – according to their own logic – we have conclusive proof that the iPhone is a failure!

      3GS has been out a LONG time. Apple fanboys jump on phones that are discounted mere months after release (and not during holiday seasons). And many are, thanks to the Android “this month’s newest phone” thing. Which i’m not putting down – that’s great. But if you realized that, then it wouldn’t be an attempt to fire an almost-clever comment.

        Just over 5 months ago, the 3GS was THE premier cell phone from Apple; in fact, 6 months ago you could choose the 3G or the 3GS. It’s still for sale – as a brand new current model…

        You missed the point. Before those 5 months, the 3GS was out for about a YEAR. So it’s around a year and a HALF old right now. So it going on sale now isn’t any different when car deals put their 2010 cars on sale because of the incoming 2011 models. And how can something by on sale as a “brand new current model” when you’ve already admitted the iPhone 4 has been on the scene for “5 months”?

        Even taking your comment on face value, that’s still 5 months. More time than almost any Android phone has gone without a sale (naturally, because there’s always that “next model”).

        You took a shot at Apple fanboys and missed. There are plenty of other things you could have hit dead-on too. Too bad.

      Another anti-apple rant with no real proof of anything. Lol.. Nice try though? not really.. But yes, because you said it, its a fail.. Oh and guess what? Android phones are popping out everywhere and each new version trumps the one before it way before 6 months is up. Try again.

        You missed the point. Many apple fanbois call the success of android a failure. One of those successes is the ability to discount a phone by offering a better-than-normal price.

        Now that the 3GS is in that class (doesn’t matter who sells it since it’s with contract here), The apple fanboi logic says that the 3GS is a failure.

        I’m surprised that you not only failed to see that point but got obfuscated into another irrelevant point.

    Im with you Brandon…so ironic after AT&T was named the worst carrier….and Verizon announced they will carry the Iphone next month..AT&T now wants to lock you into a 2 year contract by offering there most popular phone for FREE….LOL…some say good marketing tool, i say……something sounds fishy!!!!!

      haha its a bestbuy offer nothing fishy, they just want to get into the market share, they are doing a bunch of free smartphones for every day in december, unless all of a sudden its a huge conspiracy to give out free phones, i think its just a good once in a while deal.
      When have you ever seen APPLE discount their phones… oh yea never, unless a new phone has just come out, which.. it hasnt.

    Do you guys have any idea how many iPhone 3GS’s are being sold on ebay every day?.Now ppl can buy’em for free at bb..

    I guess they want to sell all the 3GS’s because, thanks to Gizmodo for reveling iPhone 4 months earlier,,people said: Hm ill just wait for iPhone 4 the hell with 3GS :)

    Apple: Dang it, how am I going to sell these 3GS now? ….

        Hello… I wouldn’t fling the stupid tag around, karma’s a mean bitch.

        They will continue to sell for $100-200 on ebay, not because the buyers are uninformed, but because the one’s on ebay aren’t subsidized and don’t require you to sign a 2 year contract (which includes the subsidy payback).

      umm the 8gb 3gs came out along with the iphone 4, they arent that old. Some people dont need all the fancy iphone 4 stuff. like errmm old people and people that are just getting the iPhone because they think its cool, half of these people dont even want to use the iPhone for more than a phone and accessory. Dont ask me why, i think its stupid to want a smartphone and cry about the data plans that are forced along with them. Get over it or find a ipaq or palm pilot and go back to your flip phone.

    Here in the UK you can get any phone for free on a contract. Why’s does it make headlines when a phone is available for free in the US?

      Yeah if you’re anything like Telstra in Australia and sign a 5 year deal. You should be able to get a phone and a new car with that.

    Unless you said “getting rid of obsolete inventory” you are nothing but a troll. This is the most obvious, they are read to cut losses on 3g, so they are going to try and offload 3gs, even if they offer the phone free, att wants the contracts and there is money to be made.

      I think the providers gain more from the contract than the cellphone/device itself. Again, I believe that they’re having all these deals because they’re closely losing the deal with apple. I hope the iPhone comes to all providers.

    This sale caught my attention, but I think I’ll hold on to my Palm Pre for a bit longer to see what else comes from HP/Palm in early 2011. There’s still much to love about WebOS!
