Apple drops prices on refurbished iPads; $70 to $100 off

Apple further reduced its pricing on refurbished iPad models this week, offering discounts of up to $100 off the price of a new iPad. The price drops only apply to the iPad Wi-Fi models, and total discounts range from $70 to $100. Pricing is now as follows:

  • Refurbished iPad Wi-Fi (16GB): $429
  • Refurbished iPad Wi-Fi (32GB): $499
  • Refurbished iPad Wi-Fi (64GB): $599

The discount applied to refurbished iPad Wi-Fi + 3G models remains at $50, and there has been no indication that Apple might lower pricing on the 3G models any further. Apple’s website notes that reduced pricing on its refurbished iPad Wi-Fi models is only applicable for a limited time, though it does not specify when the promotion will end. All refurbished iPads purchased directly from Apple come with a new battery, a new outer case and a 1-year warranty.

    I think I will pass on paying a discounted amount, on a possibly previously defective iPad. If I want to save some money, I’ll just order it from Amazon and pay no sales tax.

    Besides, in a couple of months they will annouce iPad v2 and the price of v1 will be dropping (and dropping like a rock on craigslist and eBay).

      From Apple: “We test and certify all Apple refurbished products and include a 1-year warranty. All refurbished iPad models also include a brand new battery and outer shell. Supply is limited and availability is guaranteed once we receive your full payment.”

      An Apple re-certified iPad is definitely better than a Craigslist iPad.

      But you’re right… after iPad2 comes out… eBay or Craigslist will have tons of cheap original iPads (but they could be up to a year old by that point)

      So… buyer beware…

    Hmmm… 20-25…30% off is typical. What’s with the ridiculous notion that you’re somehow saving money with a whopping 14% off of an already overpriced, underfeatured piece of glass. Go waste someone else’s time…

        The Galaxy DROID TAB is a far superior device. Even though it will be stuck on DROID OS 2.2 it is the better deal. The app selection may be limited forever, but sign me up on a two year contract any day…because DROID DOES

    According to the Apple fanbois, any discount of product is a sure sign it’s a failure (see their numerous rants on discounted cell phones). So I guess – according to their own logic – we have conclusive proof that the iPad is a failure!

    Oh darn. I misread the headline the first time. I was almost ready to rush out and buy one for $70. But even with the discounted prices, it’s still more important to make sure I can afford my winter heating bills. No, thanks Steve.

    Wow. Is everyone super jaded??? I’m sure I’ll be called a fan for commenting in this direction, but people are buying. Everyone wants to prove how cool they are by trashing products, I just don’t get it. BGR does an excellent job of providing us with news that we want to know. Lots of people are in the market to buy an iPad, just look at the success of the TJMaxx stunt pulled. Why pay retail?

    In addition, I do think the timing of this promo has a little to do with upcoming hardware and some of the announcements of suppliers for upcoming hardware.

    So… In closing, if apple bashing, or saying that anything that sells is crap makes you more hip then the next, I guess its a good thing that I don’t own any skinny jeans, Chuck Taylors, or thick framed non-perscription eye-glasses!
