Google pushes Android Gingerbread 2.3 to Nexus One handsets?

Software

If you’re feeling a little down now that the official successor to the Google Nexus One, the Nexus S, has been announced, don’t feel too bad — reports around the internet indicate that Google has just started pushing the Android OS 2.3 update out, and it’s ready for you to hit that upgrade button. Gingerbread brings along Wi-Fi calling at the OS level, faster keyboard support, even better power manager, download manager, UI refinements and updates, along with support for some pretty sexy hardware that the current Nexus One unfortunately doesn’t contain.

UPDATE: False alarm on the Android 2.3 update for the Nexus One. According to Reto Meier, developer advocate at Google, the update is due in the next “few weeks.” If you’re really anxious you can check out the Android 2.3 user guide.

No 4G. No dual-core. No 4.3″ Super AMOLED. No buy :(

I’d prefer a 3.2″ in my REGULAR sized hands..but the rest of that I’d need 2 make a switch

Where is this rumor spreading from? I have nearly 650 people on my network with N1s and none of them have received it yet :-/ Not to mention no one on XDA has received it either.

    When’s it hitting the Evo?

      never

Evo was the first carrier phone to get Froyo. Epic is the first Galaxy S to get Froyo. I’m sure Sprint will get Gbread to the Evo ASAP.

It seems all the tech sites have been fooled

No fragmentation? Let’s see, how many handsets have google’s latest OS release… maybe 100k? What a joke.

Let me jump into the fray for a second. iOS would have these issues if Apple actually cared about the people who had their old hardware. But they don’t. They can merrily ignore fragmentation as a result.

It’s a different mindset than what Apple expresses. There are pros and cons in both cases. Your refusal to acknowledge this reality is what makes you tiresome.

Leaving people from 2007 behind (4 years ago)… fine.Leaving people from 5 minutes ago behind… crap.

        Big difference moron!

The iPhone 3G just barely works with iOS 4.0. I didn’t know 2008 was five years ago.

Again, like I said: your refusal to acknowledge that both sides have merit is what makes you tiresome. Your unimpressive ad hominem attack does not make you any more impressive.

@Sqube iPhone 3G works fine with iOS 4.2.1. A huge improvement compare to iOS 4.0.

Google can’t start pushing this to the N1 until at least the 16th. If you notice in their press release on the Nexus S, they state “Googleâ„¢ today announced Nexus Sâ„¢, the world’s first handset to feature the latest version of Google’s Androidâ„¢ platform.” If they start pushing Gingerbread out to the N1 before the Nexus S goes on sale, this statement will be false. Unfortunately, I don’t think we are getting Gingerbread for the N1 until at least the 16th – even if it is ready to go already.
