Samsung Galaxy Tab sales top 1 million units

Retail

Less than two months after the Galaxy Tab first became available, Samsung announced that global sales of its Android tablet have surpassed the 1 million mark. The South Korea-based company has increased its 2010 sales projections to 1.5 million units as a result. Just over two weeks ago, reports emerged that Samsung had sold 600,000 Galaxy Tab units, which means sales have picked up ahead of the holidays. The Android-powered Galaxy Tab features a 7-inch touchscreen display, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and dual cameras; and it is currently sold by 120 carriers in 64 countries.

considering, to my knowledge, only America has its version crapified by the Cell Phone companies, it is not surprising the Tab is doing this well.

Some people like to buy whatever Apple’s competitors copy from Apple.

      • Frank Castle

So true, which is why I can’t wait for a competitor to make a 10 inch tablet. Come on copycats!! Stop giving me these 7 inch things that Jobs was against, you need to COPY COPY COPY then PASTE! Just like the fan boys say so!

fandroids will buy any Google crap

    • Fg

And I’m really proud, I won’t give any money to steevy the guru !

    • Frank Castle

Just like the Apple Fan nuts. So what’s your point? hey, that kettle over there… its black. I buy neither. For now.

    • Anonymous

And iOS fanbois will buy any Apple crap, underspec’d product, simply because its crapple

  • Anonymous

Not that I’m rooting for anyone in particular but it would be nice to see a comparison of total tablet sales of all notable companies. None the less, 1 million sounds like a lot to me!

Its not about being a fandroid…its just that apple products still can’t multitask.

And the ipad is too big, if you buy an ipad you are obviously compensating for something much smaller

    • Donny

They can’t multitask? What alternative universe are you living in? That talking point is no longer valid. Sorry.

      • Sal A

Multi-tasking is not an issue with either. I have an iPad and an EVO and I love both but the most annoying feature I’m finding with the iPad is no BACK button! It drives me crazy that I have to hit the Home button when jumping from say clicking a link on an email and launching safari and then wanting to go back to the emails. Android handles this scenario a lot better.

      • Anonymous

Agreed with you 100% Multitask is perfect on iOS, materfact I think is even better than on android since it puts less strain on the battery but a back button is needed cause having to hit the home button is annoying as fuck.

      • serpentor

iOS multitasks because Apple calls it multitasking, but it’s not true multitasking. It’s really just allowing a task to finish if you switch to another app rather than killing it

Here we have Apple changing the definition of multitasking – kinda like how the carriers using the 4G label.

      • d_range

Stop spreading that nonsense because what you’re saying is flat-out not true. Also there is no ‘definition of multitasking’ at all, so nobody is changing anything. There also is no ‘true’ or ‘untrue’ multitasking. Multitasking = running multiple applications at the same time, and iOS is capable of doing exactly that.

You might think you could come up with a better way to achieve the same result, but nobody cares.

Honestly I saw this dude playing with one in the movie theater and thought it was a game gear.. Then he turned it to the side and I thought largest phone in th world? Oh, it’s a tiny tablet…odd looking thing.

  • GalaxyTab

Certainly the device of the moment for me. Ive been stuck to mine since getting it.

  • http://www.apexcarpentryinc.com/blog/ Craig B

Can they just make a WIFI version already.

  • http://twitter.com/tchan012 tchan012

I got both this and the iPad (got that in a giveaway) – and personally I prefer the Galaxy Tab – i know YMMV but its the perfect size. I was using my iPad primarily to play games – didn’t like to take it with me on travels – but my Tab, I do – i use Kindle, Evernote, Tripit – again I could use the iPad for all of the same as well – but it feels more…comfortable on this. My iPad is now given to the wife (and she loves it).

    • serpentor

      She’s just a size queen

  • DTownTony

WTF!?! Apparently 1 million people forgot that Steve Jobs said a 7″ tablet is DOA. Since people are only allowed to blink once when reading the gospel of St. Steven of Jobs, they must have all blinked when they got to that part.

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

That’s right. St. Eric Schmidt and Google said we SHOULD enjoy the Galaxy Tab and you are confirming what us Goofans (aka Apple Haters) know and have known for a long time. Apple is DEAD! Norm and I predicted this months ago, Apple WILL BE bankrupt by this time next year.

      • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

The only thing I hate about this prediction (Apple going out of business) is that we (Goofans aka Apple Haters) won’t have anything to do because we won’t have our greatest enemy to hate anymore. :-( Only for that reason I hope they don’t go under, but it’s inevitable.

      • DTownTony

I’m actually waiting on the PlayBook…..don’t hate me

      • Anonymous

I would hardly call a company that sells a million units a week, dead. Get your head out of your a$$. And implying that every google fan is an apple hater just goes to show how much weight your comments hold. And “Goofan” sounds like your waiting for someone to shoot a load of jizz on your face. Which at this point I’m inclined to believe is true.

  • Anonymous

So despite the quicker international roll out (and in many cases carrier subsidies), the Tab is selling at a rate of about 55% of the iPad. How. . .unimpressive.

  • Anonymous

Why would anyone in their right mind buy a Android tablet when google has said clearly that it won’t support it cause the current android is not ready or build for a tablet. Anyone who has used this thing will agree that it will give Android a bad name cause it’s buggy as hell and there’s no hope for a fix.

  • burn

omg 1 million dumb azz idiots. no surpise……there are more idiots than smart people thats a given. heres a gadget with the same exact things and less than the galaxy phone, but we will put a larger piece of glass and double the price. theres a million idiots out there we’ll profit….

  • Uansari1

If I’m not mistaken, this number would be far greater if the idiots weren’t so beholden to carriers and chose to sell a wifi only version. I would have bought one by now if that were the case. That’s what sets Apple’s iPad apart.

    • Anonymous

Actually, it is iOS that sets Apple’s iPad apart and their iOS ecosystem.

  • Anonymous

They have shipped one million Tabs. Just because the carriers have paid for them doesn’t mean one million people are using them. Apple did the same thing you say? No, Apple shipped one million and you could not find one to buy anywhere, what this means is that one million people were using them. Call any store that carriers the Tab and I promise you that they have many in stock.

    • Anonymous

Actually, I was doing research for a college course during the iPad launch and found that several stores nearby had iPads in stock without a strong demand. I do think they were sold out some places, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t believe that it was something to be extremely impressed by.

I am not on either side here, therefore, I am in no way saying the Tab sales are something to be impressed by either.

  • S. Jobs

wtf, i thought this piece of shit was D.O.A.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, except iPad sales are actual sales, whereas Tab “sales” are mostly channel filling.

There are currently roughly four to five times (!) as many iOS devices world-wide as there are Android devices, and it’s the third most popular OS on the planet (behind Windows and OS-X). It’s also growing much faster than Android and is available in many more markets than Android.

    • Anonymous

Site your sources or it ain’t true. I can make up all kinds of “statistics” too. And make sure they are reliable, unbiased sources. Apple brown nosing blogs don’t count because they can make stuff up too.

      • Anonymous

I should respond to a person who says “site” my sources??? :) )))

Look it up. World-wide share of OS’s. Windows first, Mac second, then iOS. Android and Linux are both much further down the list. “Growing faster” and “available in more markets” aren’t even contentious things to say, they are just facts that everyone in the business knows or should know.

  • TechHog

Odd, how does this seem to be “picking up” when the first month they sold 600,000 and this month sell 400,000, sure they sold a million technically, but in reality they sold 200,000 less than they did last month. That’s not growth my friends. I’ll cover this on my blog techhog dot com.

    • Anonymous

Wrong. It is picking up. First of all, the sales numbers are from l e s s than two months, but that doesn’t even matter right now. The fact is that t w o weeks ago they announced that 600,000 had been sold. Therefore, in two weeks they have sold 400,000 more. In other words, they sold less than 600,000 the first month, but are on track to sell nearly 800,000 this month. I believe that is “picking up”.

  • MyPhoneCaptivates

at first I thought it was funny, now its pathetic. All most every comment is like this epic war between iOS and android. I’m getting sick of it. Apple fans just need to admit that android is a better OS than iOS.

    • Anonymous

Lmao, yeah right. Everyone that I know of that has a android device has one cause they’re stuck on ether Verizon or Tmobile.
