LimeWire abandons hope, prepares to close music store

Services

A new report Thursday suggests that legendary piracy pioneer LimeWire may soon call it quits. LimeWire was hardly the first network of its kind, but along with services like Kazaa, LimeWire played a major role in bringing file-sharing to the masses. This past October, LimeWire was forced to shutter its file-sharing service following a court order. Now, the company’s recent attempts to jump from seedy to sanctioned appear to be for naught. According to an alleged email to vendors obtained by All Things Digital, LimeWire will soon cease its attempts to run a legitimate online music store. The site also stopped accepting payments for its current offering according to a note on its homepage. LimeWire has supposedly been working on a new legal music service for the better part of 2010, but those plans are nixed as well. From the look of things, LimeWire will be no more as of January 1st, 2011. Hit the break for a copy of the company’s email to its partners.

The only thing Limewire did was infect MILLIONS of computers, three of them my own with virus’, spywear, trojans, and adware…

GLAD TO SEE THAT SHIT GO!!!

Because you’re stupid for downloading a 50KB file claiming to be a song! How come I’ve never gotten a virus? Because I’m careful that’s why.

    • sirpaul

PS it’s “viruses” not virus’. You’re referring to the plural of a virus, not something the virus ‘owns’. IE
Right: “The virus’ source code is very complex”
Wrong: “Virus’ are infecting my computer!!! :’(”
Right: “Viruses are NOT infecting my computer because I have AVG!!! :)
Wrong: “The viruses code is written in QBASIC and not very complex at all…”

  • Oye Consolte!

Finally! Remove that living virus from the interwebz.

  • juston

if your retarded enough to use limewire you deserve all the viruses….

Rest In Loving Peace LimeWire. You were to me – along with Napster, Kazaa and a few other p2p upload/download ratio file sharing services such as Hotline Client- a God at a time when mp3s were exploding onto the scene, and concerts that i’ve only heard stories about around the campfire were finally in my hands and on my HD. No one should ever forget LimeWire for being one of the Grandfathers of an era in computers that was simply phenomenal. There are still bootleg cds that i cannot find today, that i was able to find and download some 10 years back via Napster and LimeWire. Stay sweet in the binary afterlife my friend. :)

William Diaz and Oye Consolte! from above were wondering the same thing!

      • Oye Consolte!

That’s not what your mother told me last night.

  • Tomm

World’s share of spyware drops 15%, ppl rejoice!

  • Boodah

Just DIE why don’t you… Ugh, just away Limewire. You were nothing but a cesspool of malware that caused me nothing but grief. People who used this site (as well as others like it) compromised, not only themselves, but the networks they were on. Goodbye, and good riddance.

  • DTownTony

      FrostWire dot com
      thepiratebay dot org

      • Oye Consolte!

And those are sites that will be shut down soon. ISOHunt is nothing but a shell site, giving off cached torrents, nothing private. TPB is shutting down soon, so good luck!

  • Ed

Anyone missing limewire, please see LIMEWIRE PIRATE EDITION. It’s a perfect copy of limewire pro, without the need for central connections. Works awesome. Those of you worried about viruses and malware….are you just idiots or what? That shit is all over the internet, you are the ones that put it on your computer. With very little knowledge and caution, these things are not an issue. Ive been using limewire, etc for years and have never had one problem. How? I dont download the stuff that is obviously malware. Anyway, for realz, get Limewire PE.
