Nokia makes Ovi Maps 3.6 beta available via Labs

Software

Nokia has just made a new, beta version of its Ovi Maps suite available for download via the Beta Labs channel. The update, version number 3.6, allows users to download street maps directly to their device using Wi-Fi, features a new, unified “My Position” and “Search” feature, improves transit line display, and betters compass calibration on your device. If you’re a Symbian user, and want to try out the new goods, head on over to Nokia’s Labs site and have yourself a download.

Thanks for the article Andrew, I work for Nokia.

Yes, Ovi Maps continues to get better. In addition to the features you cite, Ovi Maps also offers content from premium travel providers, including tripadvisor, Qype, and the world’s largest travel publisher, Lonely Planet. We also cover more than 10 global and local social networks, including Facebook, RenRen, Twitter and StudiVZ.

People circle the world, collectively, 80 times daily using the service, which gets upgraded with new maps at at no charge (unlike our competitors). I used it myself last night to find a restaurant in snowy Finland.

    Best,

Wow, they’ve gotten to 3.6 on their dumbphones, but still haven’t passed 0.9 for my N900 (Nokia’s most advanced and capable smartphone). How sad.
No wonder people like myself are looking to sell off their Nokia and move on to Android. Nokia doesn’t care about giving you any updates once you’ve purchased their product, they just care that you gave their company $650 at some point. Once they have their money, they’re done with you…

Ovi Maps is getting better and better, day by day. Finally, Nokia realized it.

The worlds best mobile navigation software just got better! I love every bit of it and no one can offer as complete solution as Nokia Maps! It is amazing how much useful info it can produce while travelling new destinations!

    I agree Jeromeo i honestly don’t know why i purchased the N900.

I had never owned a Nokia phone, and never will again.
Luckily, i don’t rely on this phone for day to day use, and only purchased it
out of curiosity, and to tinker with with the hopes that it would be my go-to
    phone (mainly for navigation purposes).
