HTC VP says Windows Phone 7 sales look good; currently evaluating tablet market

mobile

A report from DigiTimes Thursday morning contains a few interesting tidbits from a talkative HTC executive. Jack Tong, vice president of HTC Asia, purportedly discussed the iPad’s impact on the smartphone market recently, which he notes is not as dramatic as the popular tablet’s impact on PC sales. The HTC exec went on to say that the company will continue to focus on Android-based smartphones in 2011, as well as Windows Phone 7 devices. WP7 has been selling well thus far, Tong noted, though Q1 2011 performance of the company’s Microsoft-powered smartphones will seemingly be a much better indication of the platform’s potential. Finally, Tong said HTC is currently evaluating the tablet PC market but he would not mention any specific products. HTC is rumored to be prepping an Android tablet that will be release some time in early 2011.

Samsung is saying the same thing with a decent percentage of WP handsets for next year, thou I can’t help thinking it more about MS $$ than strong sales at this point.

Lol, i hope it’s not a fad. The all new palm devices for next year should make the smartphone race/Tablet more entertaining :D

I really want one of those Windows phones. I’m trying to trade my ip4 for one now. No takers in craigslist yet! :(

“WP7 has been selling well thus far, Tong noted”

Yeh of course, he isn’t going to say anything else.

I think everyone in the industry already knows that Windows Phone 7 has flopped.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said that WP7′s first month sales “have not been rosie”. HTC is not going to admit any WP7 sales collapse, because it is trying to sell the phones.

Microsoft can’t be in this long-term, even if it wanted to, as the carriers will desert it after a few months if sales don’t pick up. Is there anything Microsoft can do to save Windows Phone 7?

Better marketing .. Actually show the phone ui and how everything flows. The commercials I see now don’t do the OS justice. Look on bing visual search for the top wp7 apps – a good bit of those look really great and fresh.

I aint going to buy HTC,s words about WP7.. because MSFT and HTC are being each-others best friend for long times.

How does “Early sales of WP7 devices look promising” (DigiTimes) get translated to “WP7 has been selling well thus far” (BGR)? “Look promising” sounds like sales were less than “selling well”.
