Samsung issues new GPS fix for Captivate, Vibrant

mobile

AT&T’s Captivate and T-Mobile’s Vibrant are among several Samsung Galaxy S-branded smartphones that have been plagued by GPS issues since they launched. While this isn’t the first time the manufacturer has issued a supposed fix, Samsung today announced the availability of a new app called GPS Restore — which has the sole purpose of restoring a device’s GPS settings to their original state. We’re not sure how this would help resolve any issues, unless Samsung is suggesting that some carrier tweaks are responsible for the problems. In any case, owners of with the Captivate or the Vibrant will undoubtedly be happy to give Samsung’s new GPS Restore app a whirl. Simply search the Android Market for “GPSSamsungRestore” to give it a go.

Ask any samsung moment user about samsung’s abilty to release bs updates that accomplish nothing. This is the S.O.P. give half ass updates to string you along thinking the problem is being addressed.

It’s not a GPS fix. It’s to fix any changes to the GPS software done in LbsTestMode.

Messing with LBSTestMode does no good. You might change the behavior but you won’t “fix” much

I’m so glad I didn’t decide to upgrade to the Captivate. Samsung is stringing customers along something serious. Whatever happened to 2.2? SMH

Would this fix work on the Samsung Fascinate?

This is a big Fail for Samsung. The Vibrant was released in July and they are just addressing this. I returned the phone and went to the iPhone.

Agreed that this is a big Fail. I returned my Captivate back in August and got an EVO. I have never loved a phone like I love this EVO. Rock solid and the display is just big enough. I even use my phone over my laptop for quick lookups. And a side note, it’s nice being away from at&t’s anemic capped data plan.

I see several people banging on Samsung and their software updates.

I upgraded to an Epic from a Palm Pre, I’m more than pleased so far with the phone as is stock from Sprint. Now I would like to see 2.2 sometime soon, especially since there are leaks all over for the new Nexus S running Gingerbread yet their flagship model isn’t even current.

In the future I may root or install something custom but I am happy for now.

it’s a joke this app does nothing it simply restores your gps which already had a problem they should have tested the receivers before they released these phones. i downloaded this app and have been sitting on my roof trying to get a gps fix and it tells me to move to open sky and try again……… what a joke i should have bought the aria……

GPS Restore worked like a champ for me following a 2.2 upgrade and the loss of my GPS capabilities.
