New set of Motorola Olympus images emerge

mobile

Oh, why hello there unreleased handset. The Motorola Olympus has definitely piqued the collective-interests of phone nerds. The device — which is rumored to have a dual-core, Tegra 2 processor — made news on Monday when an AT&T employee declared its release date to be in December or January. From the images we can see the Olympus will have a front-facing camera, rear-facing camera (of an unknown resolution) with flash, 4-inch screen, and HDMI-out port. The device is currently running Android 2.2 with the BLUR interface and will bare the model name MB860. The device’s owner is claiming they “bought it at a flea market”… riiiight. Hit the jump for one more image and let us know what you think.

if only this was on VZW…. not gonna be able to do much on AT&T ;)

    • Anonymous

It will as the Etna. About a month after AT&T supposedly.

      • Anonymous

Olympus? Etna? maybe Motorola should relocate their headquarters to somewhere in the Mediterranean

hope they release an international version soon

Really good looking one. Finally some competitive mindset has gone into Motorola nerves. Now have decided to take back their lost market share. Need to wait and see when will this beauty be released in emerging markets to give tough competition to Nokia and Blackberry. In India, Motorola is almost wiped out from mobile hand-set market because of big-3 (Nokia, LG and Samsung). Will this product gets back its crown in Indian market for Motorola?

And now that I know it has Blur…I suddenly find myself disinterested. No amount of dual core could save that custom UI.

    • boycottsamsung

Yeah stick to your guns n let those OEMs know what their UIs are: scapegoats for delaying and denying updates….

    • Scott

      Two words dude: Launcher Pro

      • Anonymous

I agree completely… but if I don’t even bother buying your phone when you fuck it up, maybe you’ll eventually learn to stop fucking it up.

      • Scott

How does Launcher Pro or any other of the other home replacements mess up the phone? Stop spreading your lies. And I would just do a factory reset before I sold a phone anyway…

      • Anonymous

Launcher Pro doesn’t mess up the phone; we’re referring to it as a replacement to MotoBLUR, which subjectively messes up the phone.

If you think anyone is saying or insinuating that the factory intentionally goes out of their way to break a phone’s functionality, you either (A) have an Android phone from AT&T or (B) have been arguing with trolls on the internet for far too long.

In short: don’t accuse people of spreading FUD when you misinterpret what they say.

Why do I have a feeling the rear camera will be 5 MP? Am I the only one?

  • Jonathon_flores

BLUR!!?? UGH!! MOTO really did it this time. No way in hell I’d buy this phone. They’re gonna lose a lot of customers with that ugly UI. Waiting on HTC now.

    • HulktheGreen

I don’t like Blur, but that’s easily fixed by one of two steps.

      1) Install Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher, tailor to your taste. Done.

      2) Root, remove all traces of Blur. Done.

      No big deal.

  • spdr-mn

If you people liked the DROID X…I don’t see why you wouldn’t like this…just because it’s on at&t?…

  • http://twitter.com/llsethj Seth Weintraub

    Oh gawd not blur.

  • guest

Warning: stay clear of this thing if you wanna see gingerbread. Buy this and you r an idiot. Hey moto: stock or go blow yourself up and perish

  • Sean76

Looks like an evo with blur, and most likely a washed out LCD just like the Droid X, and Yes AT&T ‘s data is crappy and slow. Lets go vzw, drop some heat, with some LTE love on board.

    • Anonymous

A slow-rizon fanboy calling AT&T data slower jajajaja hey dude come back when your obsolete CDMA network reach over 2mbs and voice and data at the same time lol….!!!!

      • http://twitter.com/FrankJL9 Frank lopez

lol verizon customer always talking shit about how awesome their service is. But yet they cant talk and surf. Real INNOVATIVE.

      • Carrie

Ha! But at least Verizon customers can actually make calls when they want to…

      • Anonymous

It’s not because of CDMA though. its because fo the way Verizon implemented the CDMA spec. If they had followed the CDMA spec it does allow for simultaneous voice and data.

      • http://www.facebook.com/tylahholden Tyler Holden

The Verizon version will have LTE in it, so yes it will offer fast data then AT&Ts. So, maybe you should grow up a little.

      • Anonymous

AT&T data is faster than slow-rizon current LTE speeds do your research fanboy….!!!

      • Anonymous

        Wrong

      • JackT

That would be a great comeback, except that AT&T’s “fast” network suffers from well, not being everywhere, as any iPhone user knows. That’s why I left them for an Android device on VZW, at least I can receive and make calls anywhere, and use the data network, unlike AT&T’s it’s fast, if you can find it network.

      • Anonymous

Good for you fanboy, is like going from a nice house to a trailer park…!!!

      • Elan_athey

I have never wanted to do that at anytime in my life. Ive never been in that situation. Plus with LTE you can talk and “surf” if you want to. But for me Im going to pay attention to the ppl im talking to.

      • Chris

This being able to talk and use voice at the same time on AT&T seems to be a myth to me, at least it seems very limited. I have AT&T and whenever I am talking and try to send a BBM at the same time, BBM will stall the message until I hang up then call, then send it.

      • Anonymous

With EDGE you can’t but any 3G handset is able to do it. I don’t know much about BBs but with the Iphone and even other basic phones like the motoTundra is posible…!!!

    • Anonymous

I hate having to defend AT&T in any way but pretty much every objective test has shown AT&T to be noticeable faster than Verizon. their coverage has gotten much better over the years as well except for a few cities like new york and San Fran.

  • Anonymous

Seriously? Blur? That’s how you know it’s going to AT&T — the last company left that legitimately doesn’t give a shit about Android.

Then again, why would they? They’ve got the iGod. ;-)

  • http://twitter.com/FrankJL9 Frank lopez

This android phones are all starting to resemble each other. blah!

Android with their pathetic lineup of tablets, their 1000 phone variations, fragmentation. Is just fucking lame. Specially considering a multi billion dollar company is behind the whole project.

    Sloppy business handling.

    • JamesH

Yeah, because the iPhone hasn’t kept the same exact frame iteration after iteration? Wait, what? Go sound idiotic somewhere else! So, by your derision of the many form factors that Android phones come in, I’m guessing you don’t like choice. I mean, I’m a touch screen person, but I can see why people would like to have a physical qwerty keyboard, across most phone carriers. But I guess if you’re happy being dictated to, in terms of what you should like, or be content with, go ahead and continue your rant.

      • Anonymous

        You are stupid.
The iPhone has had three different “frames”.

      • JamesH

And yet, they all look almost exactly alike. Android has far many more form factors, so FLo’s complain sounded hollow, especially since he contradicted himself in the same paragraph, by pointing to “OMG Fragmentation!”

  • Scott

Wow, a lot of complaining in here. For a bunch of nerds, you really need to polish up on your knowledge. Yeah, Blur does kind of suck, but if you’ve used it, it’s actually pretty functional and I’d say it’s the 2nd best skin behind Sense. Also, if you don’t like it, just install Launcher Pro or ADW or many of the other home replacements, and Blur is pretty much gone.

And while yes, with it having Blur, it will take a little bit longer to get an Android update, but the Droid X got 2.2 rather quickly. Hell, the Galaxy S line still doesn’t have 2.2. Lets give moto some credit for getting the Droid, Droid 2 and Droid X all at 2.2. And yes, their other android phones are lacking in updates, but it seems like they’re taking care of their high end phone well.

As far as the specs go on this phone, it should be a great Android phone to have. As an AT&T customer, I’m damn excited for this phone. I will gladly be first in line to get one in December or January.

And VZW customers, stop your bitching! You’re getting the same phone with LTE a couple of months later. Also, you already have a stellar Android line up. I choose AT&T because it works well for me, and I’m sure you choose VZW for the same reason. Lets all just agree that this should be a sick phone!

  • Booboolala2000

I have the Droid X, and will not be buying another. AT&T users beware. Motorola is butchering android os. Stick with HTC. You should have some really good choices by spring. Motorola is pretty bad when it comes to uodates. Been waiting from the date of the update to 2.2 for the fix of bugs that they made. No release date in sight.
And even with my issues with Motorizon I would still not buy the iphone with its limitations. Screen too small, os is limited in multi-tasking. And no widgets?! Really.

    • Anonymous

Widgets exist because the Android UI is so bad they are needed to make it usable. I would like a bigger screen on the iPhone 4 but the retina display is amazing and makes it worth it. iPhone OS has much better and smarter multi-tasking than Android.
Plus 1 on Droid X updates tho..I can’t believe they still haven’t fixed these issues…or maybe I can since I used to work there in IT.

      • HulktheGreen

Nice way to deflect away from the iPhone’s shortcomings. Widgets are there in case you want, or need them. If you don’t like them, as an Android user, you have a choice, unlike iPhone people who think even Steve Job’s Sh*t is gold. iPhone does multi-tasking better than Android? Ha! I don’t think you can even call iPhone’s implementation true multi-tasking. It’s more like, half-assed tasking.

    • HulktheGreen

I also own a Droid X, and couldn’t be happier. Unlike a minority of users, I have not had any problems with it, either with Wifi, or volume, or anything. Motorola has been pretty good with updates. They released Android 2.2 for the X just 2 months after it was released. HTC by contrast took a lot longer from the time the Incredible came out, to their update to Android 2.2. Not knocking HTC, just presenting some facts. As for Motorola butchering Android, that’s a bit extreme. Yes, Motoblur is not as appealing as HTC Sense, but neither is a winner and most of us intall ADW or Launcher Pro anyway to make our phones look the way we want them. As for the Android 2.2.1 update, many handsets have not received it, and Motorola has said they are working on it. They are not giving any timeline, but given that they are releasing it soon for the Droid, the Droid X update shouldn’t be far behind.

I want this phone like Yesterday. I’m ready to dish my iPhone 3gS
