T-Mobile to announce new, low-cost international talk and text plan

General

According to a memo acquired by TmoNews, U.S. wireless carrier T-Mobile is set to introduce a new, low-cost, international text and calling plan in time for the holidays. The new offering will allow users to send unlimited text messages to cell phones in over 220 countries and call land-line phones in 56 countries without incurring long-distance charges — calls to these countries will count against your plans monthly minute-allowance. The new international talk and text plan will require subscribers to have a postpaid calling account with a monthly plan costing $49.99 or higher and an unlimited domestic text messaging plan. After those prerequisites are met, users can add the international text and calling plan for an additional $10 per line. The plans should be available to T-Mobile customers starting December 8th. and how does google voice give you unlimited calling to those countries? GV will charge you per minute.

Vonage provides unlimited calls to landline and mobile phones. with TMO, will have to et $49.99 plan + unlimited local test plan ( ~$10) and on top of it $10 for international !!!!

Compared to the competition, this isn’t that bad. AT&T charged me an arm and a leg when my partner went to Canada for a couple weeks. I would have loved to have a $10 unlimited add-on.

For texting, this is fairly good. For just calls, Rebtel is MUCH better because it’s pay-as-you-go and doesn’t require a smartphone (over GV/Skype) — as long as you don’t make daily calls.

WOW – TMO just can’t find plans that grab the attention of America…what is this the 7th time in 2yrs their changing their plans…..

Pick something and stick with it TMO

    - My Faves
    - UMA
    - Even More
    - Kids Talk Free
    - Now the Cheap International Plan

Need to follow Sprint’s lead, everyone and their mother knows Sprint and their Everything plans with Anymobile Anytime. It works because its straight forward and easy to understand….

T-Mobile isn’t changing their plans. They are offering stuff that other companies don’t offer. Or they are offering promotion to get people to sign up. The Kids Talk Free was a Promo, the MyFaves was around for a long time and switched it to the EvenMore plan. The UMA isn’t a plan, It’s a FEATURE of certain phones. and the International Plan is just a marketing gimmick. and the EvenMore plan led the way for Verzion, ATT, and Sprint to do the unlimited plans…

Geez. You Sprint employees are the easiest to pick out of the crowd.

Can’t tell from your rant if you are jealous or just envious?

    • yeah

sprint is gaining customers more than ever… but losing money. those plans mixed with high end phones subsidized isn’t really working for them. hence the 4g $10 hike. they’re business model will change for sure once 4g is fully deployed and the bill comes for that.

    the plans look good.

google voice to landlines in UK in 2cents/min, any mobile in UK is 18cents/min. calls to india are 6 cents/minute.

    not exactly economical there.

will wait till this is made available to see exactly how much it’ll cost.

Wow that unlimited international texting is pretty awesome! This will be good for my aunt, as she texts to the Philippines a lot.

i just picked up an LG android from metro pcs today with unlimited everything including international calling. i only pay $60/month. i dont see how tmobile can beat this. Also, the guy at the store told me that metropcs is now using sprint’s network nationwide. i dont know how they do it but everything seems to be working just fine for now.

    • Ebatr8

T-Mobile doesn’t have to beat it isnt prepaid they compete with the other contract carriers not metropcs why would you compare metro to tmo. Metro is garbage its good if your a cheapskate or just cant afford contract service but you get what you pay for crap network, POS phones, and terrible customer service, not trying to slam you but prepaid phones hardly compare to phones like the iphone 4, mytouch 4g, evo 4g etc… now let’s see the other carriers be forced to match this international feature to stay competitive gotta love competition

      • Jackdaniels

tmobile is starting to look more prepaid everyday dont you think? When did Tmobile get the iphone4 and evo4G? Im not trying to slam you but contract services are actually for people who cant afford the phones outright and require a subsidy from the carrier in return for 2years of their life. Seriously though, as far as the network, calls go through just as well as my verizon droid for one third the price. I got the metro as a business line but ill probably get another once i can test to see it does everything the rep said it would do. i dont think tmo’s network is anything amazing anyway, might as well go cheap or go with the best of them. on another note, once LTE is up and running, tmobile’s HSPA+ wont cut it. It would be difficult for them to upgrade to LTE due to the fact that they are not making any money here in the US from what i hear.

Back in the day when Tmobile had “Buddy Time”…calls were mobile 2 mobile within tmobile network and text was unlimited…Domestic & international for $10. They took that way….no Grandfathering! It still stings :(

Of course you can probably do better than pay $10 to TMUSA by signing up with lots of different services that let you pay for international calls à la carte and save money.

  • going_home

I wonder if this applies to plans with unlimited minutes ?
    :-D

It is about time. I have to read through the fine print though. This seems really inexpensive considering the amount of international calling people will probably be doing with this add-on.

t-mo in the UK already allow me to use my inclusive minutes for international calls
