More than 2.5 million Microsoft Kinect sensors sold to date

Gaming

Following the biggest shopping weekend of the year, Microsoft announced Monday that it has sold over 2.5 million Kinect sensors in less than one month of availability. Shortly after launch, Microsoft announced that it had sold over 1 million units in under two weeks. Thanks to the Black Friday shopping weekend, Microsoft has increased its sales pace since then — the highly anticipated motion-based controller is now selling approximately 107,000 units per day, up from 90,900 per day during its first 11 days of availability. While the numbers are quite impressive so far, this does make us wonder if Microsoft’s goal of selling 5 million units by the end of the year is looking a bit lofty right now. With less than a month until Christmas and the biggest shopping weekend of the year behind us, Microsoft is only half way there. If the company can somehow manage to keep up its current sales pace, however, Microsoft will smash its projections along with even the most generous analyst estimates.

I own one of those 2.5 Million sensors, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the purchase.

meh, I have played about 6-8 hours of kinect and I don’t really like it except for the dancing game, that things the Sh*t.

i have one hidden til christmas my 2 lil ones ask me everyday if they can get one

I am returning mine. It’s only fun for dancing other than that, it’s pretty useless.

    1) The control is slow the react to your body movement and to navigate using just your hands are plain silly. (doesn’t even response well)
    2) You don’t get the precision control like a WII or Playstation 3 motion tingy

I agree. My mom bought me the kinect and I just played it once. It was very disappointing. I tried playing the ping pong game with Kinect and it doesn’t even recognized back hand. It’s very useless. I am going to return mine and wait for a better system. I might even consider the playstation move.

I’ve bought the Kinect bundle for the kids as a early Christmas present and they love it. They get a great work out instead of sitting at the chair staring at the screen.
I tried it out (boxing) and was sore after playing it for 30 minutes. Tried the bowling also and was fun to do with the kids.

    Great investment!

Couldn’t help yourself could you Zach? You actually had a decent fact driven post, then you threw it all away because in YOUR opinion MS can’t possibly do good, they have to screw up something even if it is just projections.

Post-Thanksgiving isn’t the biggest shopping weekend, and hasn’t been for some time. December 15 is bigger than Cyber Monday, and the Saturday before Christmas beats Black Friday handily.

I don’t see how MS is going to sell 5 million units if they can’t keep the supply flowing to places like Best Buy and Gamestop. How is there already a shortage if they’ve only sold a million units? I can’t find one anywhere and Gamestop’s corporate office has announced to its stores that MS hasn’t even told them when to expect more.
