iPhone unlocking tool ultrasn0w working on iOS 4.2.1

Software

Earlier this morning, dev-team member MuscleNerd tweeted that he, and his gang of merry men, have successfully tweaked their ultrasn0w iPhone unlocking tool to working on Apple’s latest mobile iOS iteration, 4.2.1. If you read further down the twitter timeline, it looks like — for the time being — ultrasn0w is only working on iPhone 3G/3GS handsets with a baseband of 05.15.04; the iPhone 4 uses a different baseband and still needs more work. Despite not having a one-stop unlock for all iPhones, the dev-team will release the working version of ultrasn0w for the iPhone 3G/3GS in the very near future — they will not make users of said handset wait until the iPhone 4 exploit is completed. Hit the jump for the two read links.

Not that I need to remind anyone, but there is not need to unlock a DROID. They come ready for anything out of the box. Wanna know why? DROID DOES!

Droid phones are locked down just like apple, Motorola (maker of all but one of the Droid phones) now has a locked boot loader and also locks the nand. While it is possible to bypass all that, they are locking down their phones. Why do you think people need to root their phones, they wouldn’t need to do this if it was done from the manufacture.

Second, Droid is Verizon’s naming of a couple of Android phones, Droid is something they licensed from Lucas Film. Calling everything Android a Droid is wrong.

Norm knows that, but he’s a troll, and that’s what trolls do.

    • One who knows

People here continue to misread Norm’s posts. In reality he’s got an iPhone and he is a 100% genuine iPhone fanboy. His posts are purposely disguised as Android-lover, but it’s all a big joke, and he’s just using them as head games on you all. He gets a kick out of those who get upset about his posts and call him a “troll” and other names, cuz he knows they have fallen in his trap. I’m sure he also posts under other handles, and one of them is the iPhone fanboy one.

Everyone knows Norms lameness. But jokes are funny. He is not. It’s so old and lame and boring. He’s still a troll.

    • sirpaul

      you mean Funday?

  • Bill Taroli

Actually MuscleGeek’s reply to me indicated that ultrasn0w would spirit iPhone 4, but only with the iOS 4.0 baseband for now.

if you have an iphone 3g or 3gs, you should really step up your game cause both of those phones are the past… upgrade please, save your self the embarrasment. especially you 3g users!

    • http://twitter.com/Obj_me Michael Hurlburt

Uh what? People who are actually embarrassed of the phone they’re using really ought to get a life, seriously WTF?!?!? I personally prefer to be on the bleeding edge however I’m sure there are in fact people for which a 3G/3GS is just fine but perhaps are on a different network….

      • mjrtom

i think/really hope he was trolling.

Well I have a iPhone 3G(on Tmob)….I got it for hacking it of course….So ultraSnow is very welcome….My iphone is my back up device which served me well when my Nexus One got stolen and when my Samsung Vibrant was bricked during an OTA update…

    • http://www.facebook.com/sonar.chris Chris Johnson

I think you miss spoke, I think you meant to say, if you have an iPhone you should really step up your game because the iPhone is in the past.

So I have a question. If I have an iphone 3G it’s ok to update and unlock right now?

  • trollfacedogjpg

Can I just do an official update via iTunes to 4.2.1, then apply the unlock? Or do I have to use another “hactivated” firmware?

  • Snafu258

So what the fuck happened to “shatter” it was soupposed to be a permanant jailbreak. No becuase I was late to updtate my shsh blobs im locked out from a untethard jb?

LOl.. time for another freaking phone.

Apple need to give up this charade of trying to sideline people who want to program their own software for their iPhone. Rigorously controlling what your consumers can do with your products is a losing battle!

  • Manager385

ultrasn0w is not working yet on 4.2.1, i just redsn0w jailbroke fine, and ultrasnow isnt working for my unlock. thanks for jumping the gun on this one BGR.

    • iMoliere

you’re right, it’s not working yet. I jailbroke my 3G iphone OS 4.2.1 with redsn0w (I upgraded accidentally) but earlier this evening when I installed the newly released ultrasn0w 1.2 it did not unlock my my phone. I have a 5.15.04 firmware since I updated via iTunes.

you need to follow the instructions.

you missed the step to inject the ipad 6.15.00 baseband into your iphone for ultrasn0w 1.2 to work. ultrasn0w 1.2 will not unlock 5.15.04.
