Roku XD player 20% off on Black Friday

General

If you’re looking to jump into the connected TV market, and aren’t quiet ready to go with Google TV, Roku is a great option. The company has just pinged us to let us know it is offering a sale on its widely popular Roku XD player starting tonight at 12:00PM PT. Roku will be offering its XD model player — which is capable of 1080p playback — at an additional 20% off. That brings the price of the already affordable box down to $64. The sale runs through Monday, November 29th. Happy shopping.

Funny. That’s prettymuch the model I’ve ignored. I was looking at either the one for 60 or 100 for the dual band N. 1080p doesn’t matter since the reviews say most of the channels only push 720p on the box

if it starts tonight at midnight that would be 12am, not pm.

Yeah. Andrew was trying to confuse me. 12 PM PT would be 3 PM ET.

So I guess us east coasters will have to wait until 3 am to get the deal.

Wow that’s great news, because I was looking at the $60 one but I wanted the enhanced remote so the extra $4 seems worth it to me.

Who on earth would buy a roku hd when there’s Apple TV. Don’t even waste your money, seriously!

Apple TV = only certain movies and shows. Plus Netflix. With Roku you get Amazon VOD, hulu, Netflix. Plus 20 other channels including Pandora, news, and online videos.

It won’t stream from your PC/Mac correct?

What if I’m not ready to go with Apple TV? Is this a good replacement? Your article only mentions this as an option against Google TV.

Who pays 99c an episode on Apple TV when you can use your existing Netflix subscription? (Don’t have one? You’re missing out.) Add Hulu Plus and you’re set to get rid of the $100+ cable bill… All for $16/month (7.99 for Netflix and Hulu). As for Google TV, all of the major networks blocked access… So much for paying $299.
