New images of Google’s Nexus S emerge

mobile

Someone dropped a little rum into this morning’s mug of warm apple cider and had some trouble holding the camera still. Regardless, today is all about being thankful, and we’re thankful to xda’s anonymous source for reaffirming the Nexus S’ imminent launch. Of course when Google’s CEO shows off an unreleased device while on stage at a conference, an announcement probably isn’t very far off. But you know the game — the higher the volume of leaks, the closer we are to launch. As a quick refresher, Google’s Nexus S will be the company’s sequel to what some might call the failed Nexus One experiment. It will reportedly feature a 4-inch Super-AMOLED display, dual cameras, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), 720p video recording capability and support for NFC. Google is expected to make the Nexus S official before the end of the year, so we’re now looking at a five-week window. Google’s Nexus One set the standard for Android devices in 2010, so look for the Nexus S to do the same in 2011.

sucks that it is with shitty t-mobile and not verizon

    • Broken_aPE

yes it does suck if your on verizon whining about how crappy T-mo is But somehow mange to get the BEST that google has to offer. Haters gonna hate, enjoy your motoroids and bing on.

      • Anonymous

        Bing on, classic.

    • Anonymous

Yeah, that shitty T-mobile network.. I’m only getting a paltry 4100kbps down on my Nexus One as I type this!

  • RealDeal

The plastic high gloss look of this phone makes it look so crappy.

    • sirpaul

Oh, but when Apple did it with the iPhone 3G and 3GS it looked good, right?

      • RealDeal

No, I thought that looked like shit too. ;)

      • Anonymous

Plastic and glossy always look shltty, regardless of who does it.

The reason the nexus one failed was because it wasn’t CDMA compatible. Add the radio to make it work on verizon and it will truly be a universal smartphone.

    • Anonymous

So then why did the iPhone succeed? Last I checked the iPhone wasn’t CDMA compatible either. Support the product and platform you like, just don’t post something without really thinking it through.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=545634778 Alan Paone

A phone that only works on verizon and can’t leave the country except to go to japan is universal? Verizon is stuck in the ’90s and needs to catch up.
The reason the iPhone is so successful is that its on pretty much every carrier in every country worldwide, adding verizon to the party wouldn’t make a difference. An N1 on verizon would still be a niche device for crazy power users and developers. The nexus one is a developer and showcase phone. It wasn’t meant to sell 40 million, they sold it online unlocked, that’s not how people buy like to buy phones. It didn’t fail, it wasn’t meant to succeed the way us nerds thought it would.
If this nexus S is anywhere near as amazing as the rumors are suggesting, I’ll buy it on launch day, but I probably won’t have to wait in line.

Stuck in the 90′s lmao VZW and the other CDMA carrier Sprint, are years ahead of AT&T and Tmobile. Sprint stopped upgrading it’s 3G network THREE YEARS AGO and they just barely passed it in speed. CDMA is the dominate standard in America with the most subscribers, the most coverage, and the most tech savy companies. Even the CDMA prepaid company Metro PCS is dishing out LTE already. HSPA+ may be fast but you better get used to falling back to EDGE, with VZW and Sprint after WiMax or LTE you fall back to Rev. A.GSM has it’s advantages but they aren’t hardly ahead of anything…

      • Anonymous

wow you are so incredibly wrong.. north america has nearly double the coverage as cdma.. not to mention 2 different companies with 2 different frequencies then add in edge and gprs if need be.. your wrong and cdma is about a year away from a dead technology.. remember tdma? Wheres that now i forget? Cdma is done buddy..thats why everyones moving on from it.. ur dumb

      • Anonymous

        @johnsonroda

If Sprint is smaller than VZW and has more 3G coverage than any other carrier how is it double? Were you aware that HSPA+ is CDMA?

        Follow along

        1G = Analog
        2G = TDMA
        3G = CDMA
        4G = OFDM

That’s how it goes minus a few exceptions. Don’t be scared to use google.. What were Sprint and VZW’s 3G launch dates? If GSM is so much faster than CDMA than why was it never promoted until now? Since HSPA+ is faster than EVDO what have Sprint and VZW been upgrading to? Is that more advanced than HSPA+? Answer those questions than honestly tell me your right..

    • Anonymous

um..Google was ready to release it on VZW. It was Verizon that decided not to allow a fully open handset on their nickel and dime network.

  • Roguefromnyc

    Can’t wait.

  • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I’m so excited about this phone. This will be the most powerful computing device paired with the most powerful operating system ever developed. I truly believe, as most goofan (aka apple haters) do, that this platform will yield phones with more power than any cray or IBM supercomputer. In addition we believe that that power will be so mobile with a battery that’s so strong that it can power a whole town and an antenna so strong that will give brain cancer to anyone that holds it close for too long.

Go android! Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow goofans (aka apple haters) and if you like apple, then you’re a moron and not very smart (as us goofans aka apple haters know very well, since we are by far the smartest people in the planet)

    • Norm

As usual I couldn’t agree more, but you know damn well that Jobs is probably going to try to dethrone DROID by putting the iphone (plus duct tape) on Verizon or even all carriers. That is not enough though. Everyone has gone DROID now. It’s all over.

      • Anonymous

You know your a moron right? This has to be for attention. Someone who posts this much on a phone blog site should know half of the shit u say is wrong and moronic

      • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

If I am a moron, what does that make your mother. You are probably a CrApple fanboy and have issues with the awesomeness that is Android! The most powerful OS in the history of OS’s. I venture to say that the next shuttles will be powered by Android! Android may become the sole OS used by the U.S. government to deal with ALL national security issues. Yah, it’s that fucking powerful. And you iOS crap? It can’t do .001% of what Android can do. I can’t list them here, but there’s TONS of amazing features that people like you with limited intellect (that’s why you are an Apple fanboy) can’t begin to comprehend!

      Die slow.. no, Die fast

    • Anonymous

Wow you are so dumb its unreal..u make no sense and have no clue what your saying.. both iphones and android have the ups and downs.. so your wrong.. secondly i have a tmobile g2 and i just got a galaxy tab 2 weeks ago ..both which run android .. so shut ur dumbass self up before you post garbage that makes no sense..

  • Sonya

Samsung should have skipped the Galaxy S and put this on all carriers.

  • Rob

Hopefully, like the Nexus One, AT&T wont be far behind!

  • uglygeekyfragmandroid

hey google, how about dealing with fragmentation this holiday season? also how come at 2.3, android is still ugly as heck?

my vibrant will never see 2.2 many thanks to google giving samsung free reign on android. why would manufacturers update? it’s not even in their interest. samsung’s interest is selling phones, not sending out updates. you d figure that if google gives out the OS for free to OEMs, can it not at least ask them not to put their tacky laggy UIs on it?

oh but wait, why would google tackle the problem if eric schmidt is in complete denial? he does not think that android is fragmented…..whatever he ‘s smoking, i want some of that…

    • MyPhoneCaptivates

My captivate is on 2.2 right now, and runs flawlessly with cognition. Just root and install a custom rom. The only program I have had a problem with is qik. Fragmentation is a myth to me. My phone can play any app I throw at it.

with that retort, I wish you a happy thanksgiving.

    • Norm

DROID is not fragmented. That is just a myth put out by Steve Jobs. Yeah maybe half of my DROIDs that I bought this year still run 2.1 even my DROID Fascinate I just bought may not get 2.2, but I can still run the majority of the same apps and functions. Personally I enjoy buying a new DROID every month or so. Because of that I will always have the newest OS. You just gotta get with it. CrApple limits you to one phone a year with their business platform. Sure they may update the OS several times a year and respond to glitches in a timely fashion, but they only have one phone, which is going to cripple their sales over time.

      • http://twitter.com/southeastbeast Brian

Please stop referring to Android as DROID. All DROIDs run Android, but not all Android phones are DROIDS. Stupid Verizon and Motorola made everyone retarded and blind with their campaigning. Genius for their marketing but it still annoys me.

      • Anonymous

Had nothing to do with motorola, it is all verizon, it is the carriers call on what to call the phone they sell motorola has nothing to do with it, wrong again genious

      • anotherguest

“DROID is not fragmented”. u gotta b freakin shittin me…..wow i knew that eric schmidt was givin out whatever he is smoking to android fanatics like you. if DROID series was not fragmented, then what the heck is crappy ninjablur doing in DROID X?

      • Anonymous

This norm guys a moron.. and im pretty sure the goofan aka applehater is also the same guy..he just says the dubest shit on here everyday..hes never right nor does he ever make sense.. its either someone looking for attention daily or hes literally as dumb as a box of dildos because his posts are assanine..

      • Anonymous

        Your brain is fragmented

    • http://twitter.com/southeastbeast Brian

Wow you don’t understand anything do you? Google is only responsible for pushing updates to Google branded phones (Nexus One). You should blame Samsung, Motorola (CLIQLOL) and other third parties that don’t update their phones to the newest version of Android. Better yet, buy any phone that #teamdouche supports and you will have up to date Android versions thanks to Cyanogen and co.

Your retarded ass shouldn’t have bought a Samsung phone that had software controlled by Samsung. Everyone knew Samsung would be slow to roll out updates yet they still bought the damn phone and want to complain later.

      • Anonymous

Talk about not understanding anything and being dumb maybe you should reread his post. he never said google is responsible for updating it. He actually keeps going saying why would they waste their time when they could be puting that time into making newer phones which makes them money not updated an old model.
Before you insult someone maybe you should learn to read and open your squint eyes. . .

      • Yazanab2002

listen you idiot: i would have stuck to my nexus one to get the updates but i had to sell it and get a vibrant because the nexus one touch screen was defective and YOU KNOW IT. you know that crappy screen was not well callibrated so dont even go there….and like the other poster said: read my post properly before you scream your tits out in defense of fragmandroid

      • Anonymous

He’s an idiot? You’re the schmuck that trusted Samsung to update after the Behold II debacle. That speaks to YOUR intellect now doesn’t it.

  • drew dogg

I’m sorry but that phone is weak sauce! It looks just like the galaxy s but a bit more rounded off with a front face camera. Yeah nothing to be too excited about here folks.

  • http://www.facebook.com/omgitzjose Jose Guitian Cicero

2.3 looks ugly i hate the new app launcher with the green and its all square now. also the black notification bar looks like a copy os sense and touchwiz

  • Enoel69

yup i also dont feel the design…for me i would rather see the phone housed in the casing of the Samsung Galaxy Amani..that shape n casing looks more durable and a lil futuristic.

  • http://www.banidincriza.webatu.com Andrew

Is seems that the Nexus S will be great and ready for us to buy it! :)

    • Yazanab2002

yeah go buy it because that’s proly the only way you get to have gingerbread…..

  • Bobby

This is likely the reason Motarola will sell its mobile division in Jan 2011 and Samsung is going to go towards the WP7 (60%) for 2011. Now that Google is in, they want more and they will squash competitors to which they own nothing to…..

    • http://nextparadigms.com Lucian Armasu

Yeah, Samsung is giving up on Android, just after making Google’s phone….Do you think before you post?

  • Booboolala2000

Weak, cheap poorly built! I wish all the chinks would get together and put retina displays on these phones. To over pixelated, so sad.

    • Bringit

      “all the chinks”??

    • KCRic

Too over pixelated? Man I bet watching a movie in1080p just kills you then.

I’ve got a box of tissues on it’s way for you.

  • Johny

why do they keep changing around the capacitive buttons on Android?

    • Yazanab2002

because the platform is a mess…..it is poorly managed and it’s one big fat hot mess.

    • David

      totally agree with u

    • KCRic

Well little johny you see, google designed Android. It’s what we call an Operating System. Samsung makes phones with what’s called Hardware. Capacitive buttons are part of the HARDWARE. Get it now? No one is changing the buttons on Android – because it doesn’t have any buttons.

      • Ken

probably the worst explanation i’ve seen here yet.

  • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I truly can’t wait to see honeycomb! I have heard that the new version is so powerful that it may be the new OS to manage all the launches of the new generation of shuttles into space. So powerful that the U.S. government may dump all their other systems in favor of Android. It’s truly the most powerful “thing” ever created. Too bad that it takes the advance intellect of Goofans (aka Apple Haters) to comprehend this. Too bad!

    • me

I love Android but you sir are a tool !

  • David

There are way too many Android devices
So stop and release few REALLY HIGH-END Android phones.

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

Are you kidding? Every Android device is high end. I have done testing that shows that the lowest performing Android phone is between 10-20 times more powerful than a MacPro with 12 cores! Stop bad mouthing Android! I reiterate, the power of Android’s only evident to Goofans (aka Apple Haters) who have perhaps the most powerful intellect in the universe.

      • David

        are u retarded?

      • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

ah, no… You may be though. But it’s ok. Us Goofans (aka Apple Haters) understand that common folk, such as yourself, don’t really have the intellectual capabilities we have. I am sorry if that stings, but it’s JUST reality. Sit down before you hurt yourself. :-)

      • David

You sir have way too much time on ur hands
and i actually own a DESIRE Z…. so shut ur mouth

      • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I have a Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, Droid Pro (brand new), Fascinate, Galaxy Tab AND just ordered an EVO so I could have that huge screen close to my face! Ah, how sexy. And every month I get the new Android phones and tablets that come out. Gosh, I love it. Ok, so it caused me my marriage, my kids won’t see me and I am close to bankruptcy, but one day I will be vindicated.
