PlayStation Phone to be unveiled on December 9th?

mobile

French gadget enthusiast blog Nowhereelse has reportedly received a copy of an invitation to a mysterious press event early next month. The event, as the invitation states, is supposedly “the most awaited event of the past 10 years.” While the authenticity of the invitation is anything but confirmed, the implication is clear: Sony Ericsson will supposedly unveil its PlayStation Phone on December 9th. While no specific mention of the PS Phone is made on the invite, the standard PlayStation icons accompanied by a matching phone icon speaks loud and clear.

Alleged images of the Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone were revealed last month and are believed to be authentic. As such, it is reasonable to believe an announcement might not be far behind. With holiday shopping kicking into high gear this week, a December 9th announcement of this magnitude would be a bizarre move at best — then again, this is Sony Ericsson we’re talking about here, so anything is possible. The source of this rumor is definitely hit or miss, but let’s all cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Seriously?! Knowing Sony/Ericsson, we’ll likely not see a CDMA version though -so no Sprint or Verizon. *sigh*.

It’s NGage all over again, is it a phone or a gaming machine? We have phones that play games, good ones too so if this is a phone with a game pad then it’s fail. If it’s a gaming machine with a phone, well then we may have something. Given SE’s record this will be another disaster waiting to happen.

Obviously there are much smarter people on this project than myself. In saying that I just don’t know. SE (maybe just Sony in general) should follow Acer trying to follow Apple. Acer seems to be the one company to finally understand that it is Apple’s Media Empire that is creating all of the opportunity for Apple. The devices are just a plus.

At least we should be able to pickup some cool tech on the cheap when this thing hits the bargain bins.

This will be a huge success as they have decided to use the DROID OS to maximize it’s full potential. The reason Windows and crApple are continually failing is their complete lack of DROID OS. I will be first in line to get this as long as its on VZW, America’s best 3G and now 4G network. DROID!!

    • lurch

“Droid” isn’t an operating system. A Sony PlayStation phone isn’t going to have anything to do with “Droid”, as “Droid” is manufactured by Motorola.

      • Norm

DROID is also manufactured by HTC…HTC DROID ERIS and HTC DROID INCREDIBLE…I’m a DROID expert so STFU.

      • 3vil

DROID is a brand that Verizon developed… It has absolutely nothing to do with Motorola or HTC
Get your facts right before you curse somebody out.

        “I’m a DROID expert…”

Apparently not, since you fail to realize that Droid is not an operating system.

      • sirpaul

        And VZW expert of course.

      • sirpaul

        You must be new…

Norm doesn’t give a shit what it’s called, all that matters is that DROID DOES and so does VZW.
Norm is BGRs local troll, working hard each day to help crApple and Windows fans see that DROID in fact truly DOES, and all other OSs and phones do not DOES.

“Droid” is an advertising gimmick where Verizon abbreviates Android and pays George Lucas money to use it. And I don’t recall Sony ever making a CDMA phone so it doubt it will come to Verizon.

      Successful troll is successful.

Well, I don’t have too much faith in SE anymore. Mainly due to the fact that they botched the X10 like no one’s business. All I know is if this this authentic, it better be released in a reasonable amount of time, not the 7 months it took for the X10 to reach the market.

and the X2 and the X1. Makes me not want to even look at this until the product AFTER the first one they didn’t botch.

Not a huge gamer here but you apple fanbits and norm are ridiculous. Gamers love this stuff. If they can play gears of war or call of duty on this it’ll be huge. Get your head out of your asses. The gaming industry is huge money. This will probably be available on all carriers, like the galaxy s phones. It will probably go to VZW due to LTE.

I think you are missing the point (mine anyway). It is all about business. You can already get a smart phone and play some pretty cool games, at least on iOS. Could they sell some of these? Absolutely, as you said gamers love this stuff. Does that mean the device will be profitable from a business stand point? Absolutely not. Businesses are in business to make money. If they don’t make money they don’t stay in business.

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean it makes business sense to do it.

…what????….as an iPhone user u better than anybody else know that the “amazing” interaction between ur fingers and the screen makes for a great gaming when part of the “gaming” area is out of ur sight, btw can u please suggest a good game that can compare to God of War ???, how awful will it be to play Chains of Olympus if my fingers were covering the screen of my PSP cause there is no physical interface other than the screen, oh and that “business” stand point u call for makes no sense, let me put it in perspective for u, as a parent I will prefer my son having his gaming console that I know he would keep all the time around in his pocket and also having a phone in his pocket that I know for sure he will keep an as much as possible, also gamers in general will prefer a single device instead of having2, iOS is plain trash cause it has as many limitations as Mapple wants to while Android is way more open, not to forget the beauty of not having the resource hog around, yes I’m speaking of iTunes, God if I can’t wait to ditch my iPhone, jb and unlocking every 3 months it’s a pain…

So Gingerbread announced on December 8th and this on the 9th.

I can’t believe Sony ?Ericson? could have a Gingerbread handset the day after it launches!

Honestly Sony, where the hell is the cross game chat for the PS3! Sheesh. I hope the PSP Phone can be on a call and still play a game at the same time.

  • XXXXXXXXXXXX

    Translated this says exactly:

“Pierre Perron and his team invite you to the most anticipated presentation of the past 10 years.

    Thursday, December 9 at 20h.”

    SWEET!!!!!
