Samsung sells 600,000 Galaxy Tab units worldwide

If you build it, they will come. According to a report from Korean newspaper The Korean Herald, Samsung has confirmed global sales numbers for its virgin tablet offering. In its first month of availability, the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab has sold 600,000 units — likely making it the most popular Android tablet in the world. Samsung is reportedly pleased with the Galaxy Tab’s performance in its premier month, saying demand outpaced supply in most markets. In Samsung’s home market in Korea, the company sold 30,000 Galaxy Tabs in the tablet’s first week of availability. Interestingly, Apple’s iPad is set to launch on November 30th and according to The Korean Herald, the company has already taken 40,000 pre-orders in less than a week.

Now we are talking. This is the real deal. Not the iPad. I can do things with this puppy that I couldn’t do with a beloved Macpro fully loaded because it’s android. I, as well as all goofans aka apple haters, know that android is the most powerful os in the history of operating systems. You can do things with it, like self generating power and augmenting signal capabilities that no other os, especially crapple’s iOS could ever ever do… And wait until google launches chrome, then the fight will be over. The Craig supercomputers and old IBM will be dead because on a little chrome powered netbook you’ll have more computing power than the biggest craig in the world.

      yawn

By the way, I meant Cray not Craig. So much for you Apple lovers. You can’t tell I made a mistake. :-)

Looks like nobody was interested mate.

They would sell much more of them if they would release a wifi only model.

    • Anonymous

      Yes and reduce the price…

      • Anonymous

And thereby hangs a tale. The truth is everyone thought the iPad would retail around $999 and designed around that price point, leaving plenty of room.

Unfortunately Apple entered at half that price… Once you have a big name company to run and marketing then coming in under Apple’s prices is hard even if you make the screen for both devices.

Maybe they would, maybe they wouldn’t. None of these number matter though. The numbers that matter will be when Samsung announces their quarterly earnings with regard to the Galaxy Tab’s sales. Shipping product number and sales are always two different numbers.

  • Sean76

Ohhh wow…yay! How about 2.2 for our American Galaxy S phones u jerks! Seriously now, good old Samsung only worried out what’s next on the horizon, and never about what’s out right now! That’s OK, their burying them selves by being so mum on updates with any of their equipment.

  • Anonymous

Well, I was all excited about the Galaxy Tab until I went into the Sprint, Verizon and AT&T stores and was sticker shocked! At those price points, I would have to agree with Steve Jobs that this thing is DOA (and believe me, I sure hate to agree with Steve Jobs).

However, I do think that it’s a great tablet, but not wort the asking price and having to fork over additional money for a service plan when I have an EVO that can do the same thing. Guess I’ll be waiting for the 2nd generation of the iPad.

    • Phyisque

yeah i like the product, but i just can’t afford that thing. Nor the ipad. It’s not for the “average” guy to have. You better have some nice bank accounts to just have a “tablet” in addition to your computer or your cell phone. Just my (literal) 2 cents.

I took delivery of a Galaxy Tab last Friday after dropping my iPad on eBay because it lacks a file system and thus makes attachments difficult in email. A lot of these reviewers are questionable in their negative review of the Galaxy Tab. I think this thing is very good. I like the screen size. I like the apps. It’s a darn good experience so far.

    • Anonymous

      You never had an iPad.
The reason you like the screen size is because you over paid for the device. Knowing that you over paid for the device (and everybody knows) you would appear even less intelligent if you suggested that you didn’t like the screen size.

The reviewers are generally correct in their reviews. Most of the time their is no need for bias because they have no financial tie to the ‘free’ product. Your ‘review’ though shows two sorts of bias:

      1. Use to own an iPad (no you didn’t)
      2. You spent your own earned money on the device (and probably got it on contract to boot)

And as for another fanboy. . I had an ipad 3g that i returned for having dead pixels plus i found the device to be too odd sized to work with and i bought a tab and i love it, guess what else, i like it more than the ipad i had . Can you take that or are you going to give me a big story on how im wrong or im lying. .. Hahahaha fanboys. It never gets old.

“And as for another fanboy. . Are you saying that you are actually Alex Alexander posting here under another name? Or are you just making stuff up.

I find it decidedly odd that someone who is so easy to call out others for their fanboyism went out and bought an iPad 3g that had “dead pixels” AND the “device was too odd sized to work with”

And you are accusing others of being “fanboys”.

Morons – unfortunately they never get old either.

“because it lacks a file system”
Er most people prefer having their data files in the App that created them. I know that that is a difficult concept for geeks to understand – but honestly it is the better way.

“and thus makes attachments difficult in email”
Hmmm. So clicking on a file and sending it to mail doesn’t work for you then?

Sounds all a bit made up to me.

      • Anonymous

Hahahahahahahaaha fanboy. . . This guys cant even say why he got rid of something without u steve blow jobs idiots getting mad and defending the ipad. . Apple people will never stop being the biggest tools in the world

      • Anonymous

Hmmm. A fanboy rant from a fanboy.

The guy can say anything he likes but it’s probably better if he actually had facts to back up his ownership because his call out seemed to imply that he didn’t know how to use one of the simplest gadgets around or he was lying.

Check out Occam’s razor and see where you side then.

Actually don’t bother. You’d still be celebrating without even considering the facts.

Lol u apple people are a joke, how am i am fanboy i had an ipad first , open ur eyes abd use your brain i purchased the ipad first moron, not to mention ive had every single iphone model until i dropped 6 calls a day and had enough. Your dumb

      • Anonymous

Well you would help your case a lot more if you could actually type in English.

“open ur eyes abd use your brain”
Advice you should well take to heart especially when responding to people in forums.

[list of impossible to verify ownership "facts" peppered with reasons why he got rid of stuff]

        “Your dumb”
        Hahahahahahahahaha.

Here’s a clue, I think you were trying to say “you’re dumb”.

And you are calling me a moron? Typing and comprehension seems to prove otherwise.

      • Anonymous

Dude what the hell are you retarded ? How am i alex? I dobt care enough to register one name let alone 2 i posted a few up to another fanboy that i had obe and why is it hard to believe i had an ipad and that i returned it, because u beat ur little bird to apple stuff so hard you cant imagine anyone returning it? You have no legitimate reasoning why i couldbt have bougth one and returned it, again your dumb

      • Anonymous

Hey buddy maybe you should take a night out on the town and get laid cause you probably havent seen a human vagina in years. You clearly lost this arguement because lets be honest, you keep finding new things to try and look cool about . Game over i win your an apple tool who sees one way , the apple way ive owned apple products but am not a fan boy i just like the better product which does more which is not your ipad, check this out. Go onto ebay, search johnsonroda27 and look at all the previous iphones ive had and sold you turd, later

      • Anonymous

Seems that you can only respond with vulgarity. You haven’t actually made a point to support what you have said.

“Game over i win your an apple tool who sees one way”

What are you, 12 or something? If you could actually type in English then maybe you could make your points.

      • Anonymous

Infantile Epistemology – you made no meaningful rebuttal of his point so why do waste our time ?

  • Anonymous

I think the more correct term would be that Samsung has ‘shipped’ 600,000 units. Your numbers pushed through distributers is different than ring ups at the register. Samsung should be more honest than that. That being said, for an Android tablet Samsung does have the best option. Of course, that really isn’t saying too much.

Now, should the Galaxy Tab show similar numbers (or better) for consecutive months, then we will have something to talk about. Android users have been waiting for a Tablet to purchase (regardless of the product) and they ventured out and purchased.

  • http://twitter.com/andrewwray Andrew Wray

This doesn’t come as a surprise to me, the Galaxy S smartphone has sold over 5m units. With the amount of marketing they’re putting behind this thing, it will continue to sell well comparatively speaking (when you don’t include iPad sales, of course).

  • Anonymous

meanwhile 5 million Galaxy S users still dont have an android 2.2. update…

  • Norms Soiled Underpants

Since my owner isnt here I’ll have to do his job for him. Screw Samsung if it isn’t part of VZW and if it doesn’t have the droid trademark on the side its a epic fail These Koreans have to realize with the Droid OS resistence is futile. DROID JUST DOES.

    P.S.
Someone tell my owner Norm to do his laundry

  • Ebatr8

The tools challenging the guy who returned the ipad just because it didn’t have a good file system are stupid, im not saying he did or didn’t but the point he made was a valid one the ipad is worthless to play around with files received or downloaded. People who purchase the ipad are mostly too stupid to use other products so they need to be told what they can do or they are just fanboys, reviews are biased btw. That being said the tab is nice I played with the tmobile one and the fact that it will phone calls with a little modifying is nice and the ability to modify files makes it a better option for me being able to move, unzip, copy and transfer files is useful for what I would use it for

      @ Ebatr8
“People who purchase the ipad are mostly too stupid to use other products”

The self absorbed arrogance of your statement is stunning!

People with a different set of computing device needs and priorities from yours are not stupid. They are just the majority of people whom require simple daily information consumption.
