Windows Phone 7 coming to Verizon Wireless for the holidays

mobile

Oops. It looks like someone running Microsoft’s Windows Phone Twitter account got a little excited and spilled the beans on a 2010 Windows Phone 7 launch at Verizon Wireless. In response to a tweet from Twitter user @joeyjoyjoy asking Microsoft to “get on some CDMA networks already,” an official Microsoft-run Twitter account replied. The response, which came as a surprise considering no official announcement has been made, stated that “WP7 devices will be rolling into Verizon stores this holiday season.” Microsoft’s Windows Phone Twitter account went on to say more devices would launch on Verizon Wireless in early 2011. The Microsoft tweet has since been pulled, but no correction was issued in its place. As a result, we can only presume Verizon will indeed be getting its Big Red mitts on at least one Windows Phone 7 device before the year is through.

Oh Yeah! ….Who needs the frigging iPhone

I do! I’m patiently waiting and praying that it comes to VZW soon! LOL

I gave up all hope for a Verizon iPhone after a bunch of “fruit”less rumors dating back to 2008. I ditched my BlackBerry Storm (hard to believe it was once the best smartphone available on Verizon), paid the ETF, and switched to AT&T for the iPhone.

I’ve also found that AT&T’s coverage has actually been very good in my neck of the woods. But as we all know, your coverage may vary, so I could see why you’re waiting for Verizon to get it.

ahhh this is the best news! I can’t wait, I’m very excited to try out the WP7 but don’t want to make the switch to AT&T.

After using AT&T 3G for several weeks here in Indiana, my question to those who want a GSM-only OS (and not just iOS) on Verizon would be: “Why would you want your OS of choice on a slower, non-global CDMA network?”

Of course, if a CDMA network is your only choice, then I would see things differently. And yes, I know Verizon 4G is coming… But so is AT&T’s.

I’m actually going to tell you that Verizon is 100 times the superior “global carrier” then AT&T will ever be and it all has to do with data plans.

AT&T will charge you $200 a month for 200MB of global data. That, my friend, is a joke.

Verizon will charge you $64.99 for UNLIMITED global data.

Voice rates on both are the same.

The only advantage AT&T has is they have more device choices, but at those uber expensive prices, who cares. Verizon will also give you the unlock codes for their global phones so you can go with local SIMs, I don’t know if AT&T does that or not.

        You’re missing the point.

The point I was trying to make was that most Verizon phones aren’t global capable, voice or data. In fact, Verizon didn’t offer global-capable Android devices until very recently.

AT&T, T-Mobile all are GSM Verizon CDMA. AT&T In Indiana just sucks. Nerver had any issues with Verizon. just my opionion. JT

Where do you live in Indiana? Northern, central, or southern? I’m in Northeast Indiana, where AT&T bought Centennial Wireless (regional GSM carrier) and their 850 MHz spectrum last year. Haven’t had a problem with them, reception is crystal-clear, 3G speeds are fast. And post-Centennial, AT&T natively covers smaller northern Indiana cities like Logansport, Peru, and Wabash. In all three of these cities, Verizon roams on U.S. Cellular’s network.

And, for the most part, I had no issues with Verizon’s coverage or service either. Plus I used them for six years. I just wanted an iPhone, so I left for AT&T (and I’ve been pleasantly surprised as a result).

I hope on of my friends gets this, I’d like to switch phones (and SIM cards of course) for one day to see how it goes :)

Dont really care at this point. Microsoft has committed to supporting it, lots of 3rd party devs are on board with it, and its UI is way smoother than Androids so.. yeah ill stick with it.

Oh ‘PLEEEEEZE’, allow me: it’s really the new iPhone CDMA masked by Microsoft that’s coming to The Big Red (Sandy S. Schwartz) Maxipad this Holiday Season.

Sing: ‘Sandy, the contract lawyer, had a very ample nose. And, if you ever saw her, you would even say she blows. All of the other bloggers, used to laugh and call her names. They wouldn’t let poor Sandy, play in any techie games. Then, one foggy Christmas Eve, ‘PAPI’ came to say, “Sandy with that face of fright, won’t you crash a plane tonight?”

Where did Glansburg go? I feel like a lot of people left after the new site design.

People not only left because the new “Design” is annoying but, Sandy S. Schwartz, a supposed Contract Lawyer in Manhattan, scared everyone away with her HORRID photo.

Windows Phones are not coming to Verizon this year, Stop believing everything you hear.

  • MartMart

Im sorry, but MS failed terribly with previous Windows phones and this brings nothing different or better than what Droid phones currently offer. I literally have to laugh when people actually want Windows phones when Droid is the superior OS

You guys are underestimating Windows Phone 7 OS, take it from someone who has a iPhone and has used Andoid devices, I am not bashing either but WP7 most definitely has a place in the market and is light years ahead of the old crappy Windows Phone OS. Believe me this new OS is still in it’s infant stages yet I am loving this LG Quantum with WP7 more then any other phone I have ever purchased. It has a very nice display with beats HTC’s displays but not as nice as Samsung’s AMOLED screen BUT I have had 3 AMOLED displays go bad on my Samsung Phones in a year so I am not willing to risk # 4. The really nice thing about the Quantum is the qwerty keyboard and the WP7 OS is SUPER fast on this phone(1GHz Snapdragon processor), faster then the iPhone (we have a iPhone so it’s not just a in store comparison).. Not trying to sell anyone here, just go and try one for yourself and you will see, a Update for WP7 is due out any day now to add more options and customizing for users.. Like I said WP7 is still in it’s infant stage and is basically bug-less, something any new iOS or first release Android OS can’t say. Honestly I cannot believe I am saying this concerning any Windows OS :)
