iPad 2 initial parts suppliers revealed

General

According to hit or miss trade publication DIGITIMES, Apple has chosen several parts suppliers for its upcoming iPad 2. The report states that Japan-based Ibiden, Taiwan-based Tripod Technology and U.S. / China-based TTM Technologies have been named as three initial PCB suppliers for Apple’s second-generation iPad. Four more suppliers will be added some time in February, the unconfirmed report adds, when shipments are set to ramp up. DIGITIMES states that the iPad 2 will be released in the first quarter of 2011, as expected.

Glad I waited for the ipad2

Why? It won’t be out until April. You wasted a year.

No, just didn’t waste $500 dollars. 2nd gen Apple products are always substantial improvements instead of just incremental upgrades. iPhone to iPhone 3G is a big difference. MacBook Air to the newest incarnation, awesome changes.

Agreed about second generation improvements, but definitely not a waste to get the first generation. I’m going to sell mine for probably ~75% of what I paid when the new one comes out and upgrade. Good deal, I’d say!

iphone to iphone 3G was a big improvement? What horrible standards you have.

Front facing camera and hopefully at least 64 GB minimum….then I will buy.

Wow this tells us absolutely nothing. Amazing investigative work here.

I will go with the BB Playbook. Thank you.

    Fixed it for you.

If Apple brought in USB and SD card slot…that would actually make me want to get it. Oh yeah, and drop the price :P And larger storage! Yeah, I’m asking a lot – but things are getting competitive. If I can’t easily transfer files from PC to PC without syncing with iTunes it’s kind of useless. I’d like to use it for photography-related things as well.

You want USB, SD and larger storage? Why not just one?

      • sirpaul

Oh, it’s not about storage – I want it for file transfer to and from the iPad. IE if I am out taking pictures and I need to empty my SD card to my iPad I want to have the ability to do that. Or if I want to transfer an assignment (PDF, word etc.) from a friends thumb drive to my iPad without manually adding the file to an app that can open it, then syncing.

      • Robert

Doesn’t the camera connector do that? Instead of putting your memory card in, you connect your camera directly but otherwise sounds like what you want.

      • sirpaul

        @Robert
It’s a lot easier to just put SD card in so I don’t have to mess with cables. Basically, I would like to have some non itunes-based data transfer.

Okay, so the idea is that 2011 will be the year of the tablet wars. I thought everyone said back in January that 2010 would be the year of the tablet wars? Apple came armed and everyone else forgot their weapons. Competition isn’t what is needed. We need more companies like Apple that actually do a few things:

    1. Show a product
    2. Announce shipping date
    3. Announce price

If we could get a few people to get this accomplished we could have a war. Since we can’t it looks like the war was over even before it began.

  • Bobc74

Awesome idea! Expose an upcoming product before the holiday season. That way less people purchase them as Christmas gifts, in anticipation of the next generation release.

  • Cedric

I’m just not seeing enough in the Ipad to warrant a purchase. Apple needs to produce a device that I can use in everyday work. No USB, small storage, no printing, high price………..
I’m seriously looking at the Playbook when it comes out.

Wait for the ‘Palm Gripper’ instead, it will blow the ipad away. When coupled with a WebOS toaster, people will be able to make piping hot toast from their beds!

  • Damon

Unless it has flash on it, I would still choose the Playbook and Tab over it.

    • Anonymous

Looks like you will be buying the PlayBook or the Tab. Apple doesn’t go backward.

      • One-77AML

Unfortunately, until the rest of web catches up to Apple’s forward thinking the lack of Flash will be an issue. I love my iPad, as do my 3 and 4 year olds, and use it all the time but not having Flash is a problem.
