All DROID smartphones on sale for 1¢ at AmazonWireless

Retail

Thinking about treating yourself to one of Verizon’s DROID smartphones right before the holidays? You’ll definitely want to check out this latest deal from AmazonWireless. The online retail giant has the full compliment of DROID devices from Big Red — the DROID Incredible, X, 2, and Pro – on sale for a single penny for those opening a new line of service. The offer is good now through November 22nd and includes free activation. If you’re thinking about jumping over to Verizon, how can you go wrong with a deal like this?

Now, if you’re already a VZW customer, and the DROID Pro has caught your eye, Best Buy is offering the new candy bar set for a very reasonable $99.99 with a signed two-year agreement; that is a full $80 below the on-contract price being offered by Verizon. It also looks like Best Buy’s $100 offer is being served straight-up, with no mail-in rebate or other forms required. Man the holidays are a great time to buy a cell phone.

Let us know what you think of the two deals!

UPDATE: Wirefly is selling the DROID Pro to new 2-year contract signers for an even lower $50. [Read]

Dang, so you have to be a new VZW customer for the 1cent deal.

    • Coolingbliss

No, you can use it as an upgrade as long as you are eligible and agree to their terms.

Now this is what I’m talking about! Keep the deals coming Amazon!

  • Anonymous

The only caveat that should be noted is that Amazon has their own ETF on top of Verizon’s if you buy a phone from them and cancel.

  • Anonymous

And just so we’re clear, this is why Verizon wants the iPhone. It’s not interested in selling $0.01 phones, and you don’t offer the phone for $0.01 if you can sell it profitably for $200.

  • MoralityDroid

    11/22 … New Droid on 11/23?

  • cheerio

The Droid Pro is not available. :(

  • Donny

More proof of the impending Verizon iphone. The Droids are being sold like second rate Blackberrys.

  • Anonymous

You get what you pay for.

I do want to wait for an iPhone, but at the same time I’m pretty sure when it does happen Verizon’s iPhone rates are going to be similar to AT&T’s; priced separately, tiered for each service, no unlimited data and most importantly expensive. I might as well make my switch from T-Mobile soon, while the prices are right.

    • Anonymous

i locked in an unlimited data plan with my iphone on AT&T…if verizon is offering that plan, get it while its hot.

      • Anonymous

They’re offering it with smart phones, but if and when Verizon does get their iPhone I’m pretty sure Apple is going to set some type of pricing plan guideline similar to AT&T’s in order for them to reap most of the profits, so while I’m hoping they don’t, I’m pretty sure they will.

    • Anonymous

Don’t think for second that T-Mobile will not be getting the iPhone, it’s coming to everyone not just VZW.

  • John

that droid x is one sexy bich

  • Anonymous

I don’t see any of the Motorola droids in stock.

    1 cent for a Android phone…makes sense, that’s about what they’re worth.

  • Dave

Even though it’s not shown on this sales ad from Amazon, beware of the Droid 2 Global. I’m on my second one in less than a week, have numerous issues with it and am getting the same bullshit responses from Verizon and Motorola I got a year ago with ‘Droid 1′, essentially denying there’s any issues. How soon before the HTC Merge to try a different handset maker that I hope really cares about quality? I’d really like to ‘buy American’ but if the handset makers continue down the path of the car makers I’ll be owning a Taiwanese phone soon to go along with my Japanese car and have a reliable product. (Yes, I understand everything’s ‘made in China’ but if the spec’s sent to the manufacturing plant are crap, that out comes crap).

Recap of some of the many highlights I’ve had with this ‘new and improved’ Droid:

    1) Lockup and reboot on its own when adjusting and setting built-in alarm application
    2) Lockup and needing to pop out battery and reinstall to get out of lockup when adjusted alarm
    3) Lockup when making calls
    4) Lockup and reboot on its own when making calls
    5) Audio quality is CRAP for both receive and transmit audio, not only according to my ear, but when my Wife has used the phone (this happens whether its the built-in earpiece, speakerphone mode or with a Bluetooth earpiece), there’s no comparison (in a bad way) to Droid 1.
    6) Corporate (Outlook/Exchange) calendar appts missing on the converged calendar that I can see plain as day on my desktop)
    7) “Push” mail seems to be more like ‘nudge’ as it’s continually way behind (a couple hours since some messages have shown on the laptop before they show in Corporate mail). This was never the case with TouchDown that I used on Droid 1, of which I resorted to about ten months ago after suffering through two plus months of the crap app built-in Corporate Mail on Android V2.0 & 2.1.
    8) I almost forgot the 16GB uSD that I moved over from D1 to D2G that only shows up as a 7.4GB card (I’m not talking about Available Space, that’s what it says for Total Space. So there’s a 50% space penalty for using a uSD ‘upgrade into D2G? Yes, I’ve reformatted the card a couple times, same result. Kind of like how many times can you reset to factory defaults and expect to get a different result.

More pain in the ass items:
    1) battery hog compared to D1 (can deal with this for the responsiveness over D1 if it was a reliable device overall
    2) the stupid ‘bulls eye’ highlighting around the cursor in some of the apps
    3) I don’t see a way to ‘pin up’ at minimum the Cc, and preferably the Bc line too, in the built-in mail app (Does Google ever ‘finish’ anything or is half ass good enough for them? Is Motorola OK in accepting a half-ass O.S. and app set?

Don’t worry about it. Your problems won’t get hyped and get much scrutiny like the iphone.

  • email

This has nothing to do with an iPhone. 3rd party agents set their own prices on devices. Verizon has NOTHING to do with how Wirefly or Amazon price VZW devices.

Stop reading in to everything as if its related to the iPhone. The industry is much larger than one smartphone, no matter how hard BGR and other tech blogs ride Apples nuts.

Verizon will sell more phones this quarter than Apple will sell globaly all year. They wouldn’t even think of basing their entire sales strategy around a device that might be launched next year.

    • David

This is obviously the smartest comment posted so far. You would think that everyone would figure this out considering that Amazon has an ETF of their own which would pretty much cover the cost of the phone if you purchased it with a new contract in a VZW store, but nope logic doesn’t suit everyone.

    • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

I love people like you that like me are Apple Haters! We HATE Apple with a passion and wish they died a painful death, ALL THEIR employees die a painful death. We need more Google around the world. They are the perfect group… Gotta love them…. And who cares that Apple makes $4B more a year in profits than Verizon when they sell, as you eloquently put it, “sell more phones than apple will sell in a year”. Who cares… I love my apple haters. we are UNIQUE!

Trolling techblog flamebait. You’ll go far in life kid.

Thanks for your lack of opinion :)

Where’s Norm? This is the article he’s waited for his whole life.

    • Norm

I’m right here. My apologies. My VZW store (kiosk next to Auntie Anne’s Pretzels) was extremely busy today. You know, we had the typical 70% of people stop by asking when we were getting the iphone, but then we also had plenty of people getting DROIDS with the other 30%. A great day for VZW and DROID!

      • Goofan (aka Apple Hater)

Droids free for everyone!!!! One droid for you and one for me, one for you and one for me… I love it. We are giving them away! Who cares that Apple is actually making money on their iPhone. We know they are Satan’s cult! We know their leader’s the devil himself! On the other hand, Eric Schmidt is spreading the love. The whole world gets the phones for free!!!! I know, I know, they have access to all of our information, but who the hell cares? They are NOT EVIL, for the 100th time!!!!!

  • Anonymous

now thats how you build market share

  • wanderer

Wow, Droids for 1cent. Perfect! Or buy one get one free! No wonder its outselling the iphone.

    • http://www.facebook.com/michaeljmcgrath Michael McGrath

If Amazon offered the iPhone on their wireless site, it would also be ridiculously discounted.

  • Anonymous

For those that don’t understand how amazon works, let me explain it. They pay Verizon the same price for the phone you would. Verizon pays them commission for the new contact. They pass most of that to you, usually resulting in a pretty big discount. The more they sell in a certain period of time, the higher the commission, which is why you see these 1¢ deals. It also helps empty out stock for new phones. So, everybody wins.

  • Droid doesn’t

This proves that the Droids aren’t selling well.

    • Anonymous

If that were true, Verizon would be selling them for 1¢. Check out my comment below. Maybe you aren’t too stupid to comprehend it.

    • http://www.facebook.com/michaeljmcgrath Michael McGrath

Yeah, Android’s marketshare is HORRENDOUS. You’re so right.

  • Norm

OMFG!!!!!!!! DROID DOES. DROID offers such a great experience and value that we at VZW can offer them at 1 cent so that all of the consumers can have the DROID they really want. Good look crApple and the iphone selling your phones for 200 dollars! DROID is going to fly of the shelf now while crApple goes further into bankruptcy with the poorest selling product ever, the iphone 4.

    • Anonymous

Normy norm norm…Put your reading glasses on. Verizon isn’t selling them for a penny, Amazon is. Verizon isn’t losing any money. For an explanation, see my exfoliation below. – Sent from my MF’N SHOW-STOPPIN DROID EVO 4G – The DROID that does more than DROID does!

      • http://www.facebook.com/michaeljmcgrath Michael McGrath

Do you really like the Evo? I had it for 25 hours…the 4G was spotty and the battery life was horrendous.

      • Anonymous

Yes, I love the Evo. As far as 4G, haven’t gotten to experience that yet. But, with 3G, and the processor, it is fast enough for me without it. The battery life gets better after a few days. It isn’t worse than any other smartphone of its caliber (Droid 2, Droid X, Droid Incredible) The iphone’s battery is about the same as well. People often complain about battery life, but haven’t seen anyone mention how fast the Evo will charg back up. Anyway, I’m happy with it.

  • Stupac Forsure

I took advantage of this deal and snagged a $50 Droid X as an upgrade….Better than paying $150 at the store and then having to mail away for a rebate card.

    • notdumbenoughtobuyonamazon

hahahah hope you like having no warranty on your phone sucker

      • http://www.facebook.com/michaeljmcgrath Michael McGrath

        What are you talking about????

  • offdayjb

I LOVE the marketing campaign! I wish they had the Droid Global 2 back it up tho.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michaeljmcgrath Michael McGrath

Would’ve waited for offers like these if I didn’t HATE MY TOUR so much back in July…been happy with an X ever since.

  • Sartavius

I just wish the wireless companies would learn to respect their existing customers a little more. New customers get a great deal, but if you’re a loyal customer, you get a mediocre/crap deal.

  • Odiesbmk

Well how do I know that its not those display cell phones? The ones with the sticker on it and its just plastic.. its to good to be true for 1 cent.. well the owner of the droid 2 and the droid x could send me like a video of the cellphone that they r using it or leave me a comment on myspace. odiesbmk@myspace.com
