Nokia: some N8 units have a ‘power management’ issue

mobile

Following widespread reports, Nokia confirmed on Thursday that some of its N8 smartphones are faulty. The response comes following reports from N8 owners around the world claiming that their devices inexplicably died. Users all complained of similar symptoms — the device wouldn’t reboot, take a charge or even power on after the failure. As some speculated, Nokia confirmed that the issue is related to power management.

There have been some reports in media on the Nokia N8 quality. Niklas Savander, head of Nokia sales and marketing, addresses the issue in a video interview published today in our company blog Nokia Conversations. In a limited number of Nokia N8 devices, there appears to be an issue relating to power management. As product quality is a top priority for Nokia, we have taken immediate actions to address this. As with any product performance issue, this is covered by Nokia’s warranty. Any affected consumers should contact their local Nokia Customer Care. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thankfully, the issue does not affect all N8 handsets and as Nokia’s statement points out, faulty units will be replaced under warranty.

poor Nokia is not having any luck with this phone are they? Based on looks alone I would think it would be quite popular, especially with young tweens who want something with a full keyboard. too bad the software side of things let the hardware down.

poor Nicholas Dube, he’s not having any luck with his facts. The N8 does not have a full keyboard, it is a touchscreen only phone, so I dont know how it would appeal to the young tweens hes talking about. Too bad the Nicholas’ brain let his typing fingers down.

People can say whatever they will about Nokia but at least they will push to offer a real solution about this. If it was Apple they would blame costumers saying they are using their phones wrong.

And this is just one of the many reasons why I stopped buying NOkia products…

Because they respect their customers and replace your device if it happens to be faulty? What should they do? Deny problems and blame the customer like S. Jobs?

  • AAA

YES! Nokia fails again. Their big device 5800 at beginning was a huge fail, now N8. I love the taste, when they fail.

    • ThisGuy

Douchebag Alert!!!! AAA, you are such a loser…..the N8 is not a failure, it will outsell iPhone 4 and any Android phone on the market. BTW, everyone who is reading this….you should click on AAA’s icon and read all the comments he has posted on BGR. 6 months ago AAA is talking about how he loves Android but is too poor to afford one, then 2 months later he is talking about how much he loves Apple but is too poor to afford and iPhone 4. GET A FREAKIN JOB and quit sitting on your ass all day dissing Nokia products, which I bet you have never owned because your ass is too poor to afford one, and too much of a loser to get a job.

I am not working for Nokia but a source close to their logistic management said there are 700.000 preorders.

I doubt if Mr. Savander uses this phone.

when did this become about apple products?

A lot of new products have “teething” issues during the ramp of manufacturing. As long as its not very widespread and the company handles it maturely, then I see no issue. You cannot manufacture every product you make perfectly, its statistically impossible.

I have an N8 and it works just fine, no issues whatsoever.

My N8 is working great and I totally love it!

I agree! Mine doesnt have any issues!

  • trooth

Will they have to recall all 17 units that was sold?

  • KenG

I just wish they would recall the UI. And the browser. And add a simple app for managing networks. And add a soft keyboard in portrait mode.

suck phone with stupid OS and now have power management issue, who gonna buy this dumb phone???

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RNAEK4YVCN2LPL4IWFIFGGVAHE Odai

Atleast Nokia Acknowledges the issue and will fix it!

  • Sbmobile

If Nokia doesn’t put a working model of the N8 in stores for customers to try/play with it’s obvious they don’t want people to see how inferior it is to the iPhone4. (the #1 smartphone on the market) This phone is a big time FAIL!! I expected a lot more!

Nice, looks like thats gonna be a really good phone. Wow.

A lot of the problems that the N8 is experiencing is due to the so called tested “Apps” that are downloaded from the “OVI” store. If you read the reviews on these apps, you will that some will work and some don’t. I have found that downloading an “app” and running it on a freshly Factory Restored Device (the phone), the “App” will run fine. However if you download a variety of different apps on the same device, the original app you downloaded first will become unstable and the phone will slow down or freeze up, rendering it useless. Its like the apps must clash with each other or the operating system. Also be aware that if you purchase an app from the “OVI” store and if you don’t backup the contents of the phone soon after downloading it and the phone crashes or needs a factory restore, depending on how many times you have had to re-download your “Purchased App”- You will be asked by Ovi to repurchase the same app before you can download it.This is a Rip Off by Ovi I feel and I believe that once you pay for something you should not be charged again.
