HTC Merge appears, disappears from Verizon’s website

mobile

If you’re a Verizon Wireless customer with an affinity for QWERTY-keyboards, Android, and HTC, listen up. The HTC Merge, an Android 2.2 handset that is anything but a secret, briefly appeared on Big Red’s website today. The 360-degree view module, which is a treatment all Verizon phones get, was briefly live on the company’s website. The gang over a Android Central managed to grab a video of the hot little number before it was vanquished back into obscurity. Hit the read link if you want to check it out and let us know in the comments if you plan on picking one up.

    Bing sucks… nuff said.

It looks like a G2 without the track pad? Yawn.

It basically is a CDMA G2. That is usually what HTC does, make a GSM and CDMA version of phones.

thank god, i can’t wait to get this damn phone. LTE radio or not, this will be my phone when i leave at&t

This is really sad. I was holding out hope that HTC wouldn’t let Verizon poison their phones with Bing.

I would’ve waited for this instead of getting a free Incredible from Best Buy if it weren’t for Bing. :(

      You can easily replace it.

are you sure? I thought apart from being a great search engine, bing randomly killed people and ran up unauthorized charges on your phone bill..

    bing suckkkkkkkkksssssssssss

I wonder how long this Bing thing will last. It’s not really that big of a deal but it’s just more of a nuisance to have something on your phone that you don’t want, nor do the majority of the people I’m guessing.

wtf it has a keyboard – what a disappointment

    • http://www.facebook.com/peterf Peter Fares

You have plenty of keyboard-less phones already. Some people like phones with keyboards.

false – it’s going to be the 1st released 4g phone for verizon and that thing looks hideous…is there a touch screen 4g being released? nope don’t see one…nice try though

      • Mordikar

nothing anywhere says this thing is going to be 4g, and VZW has already said they weren’t launching 4g with smart phones, aircards only in the beginning.

  • Drew

Uugghh… That keyboard is hideous!! Bing is a FAIL and a FAIL for any carrier that wants to control what search engine I want to use.

    • Anonymous

so what is the other smartphone os besides android that gives you a choice?

      • Drew

It has nothing to do with OS, this is carrier based and is purely a ridiculous move by Vzw. to dictate which search engine to use. And they’re the only one’s doing it = FAIL. You can use a Blackberry on any carrier besides Vzw and have a choice. Android on any other carrier, you have a choice. Same with iPhone (iOS) and AT&T… you get a choice of search engines. Symbian, Maemo… same thing.

Another great DROID. Verizon just keeps knocking them out of the park. DROID!!!!!

this thing needs to show up yesterday!

  • Mgl323

    Almost looks like the G2.

    • http://www.facebook.com/peterf Peter Fares

      It basically is. Same family.

Does this thing have a bing button like the fascinate and continium? Or just the bing app from the market?
If it had dedicated bing why would there be a need for a bing shortcut on the homescreen?

  • drew dogg

All u do is change the home page to Google. Down load Google maps. Create a short cut on the home page to the bookmark Google… and boom your phone is now a normal Droid the way it should be. Everyone stop crying… sheesh. I love the landscape sense wish my DInc. could do that.

    • JorgeB500

All that would be nice, but the dedicated search button will still go to Bing.

  • get over it

Look I love android and google and if you know anything about android which I’m sure the majority of us do then you know just because a handset ships with something doesn’t mean it has to stay there. Just root!

  • Mordikar

see that bing icon on the screen shot …. that equals not ever going to even consider buying this bloatware filled pile of junk…. well at least not until it’s rooted and theres a clean rom for it.

  • Jim Davis

Love the keyboard, hate the BingFail.
