Apple seeds iOS 4.2.1 Gold Master candidate to developers

Breaking

Probably not the iOS 4.2 announcement you were hoping for, but it is an announcement nonetheless. Moments ago, Apple seeded another gold master candidate of iOS 4.2 — 4.2.1 — to developers via its iOS Dev Center. Presumably, the new code fixes several bugs that have been reported in the first 4.2 GM candidate; including a fairly nasty Wi-Fi bug affecting iPads. If you’re a member of Apple’s developer network, you know what to do. Everyone else… the waiting continues.

First the white iphone posting and now this? What are you people smoking over at bgr today?

A pre-release version of software from apple comes out and it’s breaking…. not the only thing breaking over here:)

      I’m breaking wind..does that count?

    So the wait continues…

  • Justinbeiber

it’s not “breaking”, you idiots at BGR

  • Cracken

How long does it typically take between GM release and public release (for those of us who are still playing the waiting game…)?

  • Norm

Now this is FRAGMENTATION…. DROID DOES NOT have fragmentation. Apple is screwing up so bad. Just look at this mess. No one can use the same apps. People’s phones are getting left behind. It’s incredible that the iphone 2G from early 2007 is not upgradeable. You won’t see that with DROID!

    • Norm

It turns out I wasn’t entirely accurate….if you own the G1, mytouch 3G, Cliq, Hero, Devour, Eris, Moment, Backflip, any Sony Ericcson DROID, any currently available LG DROID phone, or Behold II don’t expect to ever see an update despite buying your phone within the last year. You idiot noobs need to realize that if you want upgrades you need to get the newest DROID each month like do. DROID DOES!

        idiotic troll

That is the biggest line of shit I have ever heard. Most of the phones mentioned in our post has had or is getting an update. Example: my touch 3G is running 2.2. The Cliq is running 2.1. The Backflip is slated for an update next week.

Get your facts straight or don’t respond!!

I personally like these sort of updates because I have an iPhone, but speaking from a non-biased point of view – what the heck is up with these “news” posts, Andrew? Seriously? A (minor) OS update? It’s kind of ridiculous, don’t you think?

  • wanderer

I’m breaking a sweat right now waiting for the update. Its news to people with Iphones, and I believe there are lot of iphone users. This particular one didn’t have to be posted though since we already know what the hold-up is all about. The news we need is confirmation of the release date.

  • So_so_tyght

Are you serious with the droid comment?? Phones don’t get left behind huh? So how’s it going with that g1 running 2.2? Oh wait it’s not is it. Dumbass.

  • Len

I’m sorry but how many posts have I seen on BGR about iOS4.2? must be more than a handful… How many days has it been released to all Iphone users? zero…

I have never seen so much coverage for an OS which has not even been released yet… and the sad part is that it’s not even a major OS update.. it’s a minor update in which most people won’t even notice what the difference is after they upgrade.

You might not realize this and/or care about this, but this is actually a rather BIG software release–this is the first iOS version that will actually unite all the iOS devices. In particular, for iPad users, who have been stuck using the older version 3 since the beginning and still don’t have a version 4 to upgrade to, this will be a huge update. Beyond that, even for those with somewhat older iPhones, like the 3G S, this will also be a meaningful upgrade as it appears 4.2 will perform much better on those phones than previous versions of iOS 4, which is a pretty big thing for people with those phones.

Where can I download the pre release 4.2?

  • Michael

I own a Windows 7 machine, an iPad, a Kindle, and an android phone. 4.2.1 is important to my iPad. This doesn’t mean that it has any effect on my android.

If an article is news to you enjoy it. If its not, skip it by. There is no reason to jump in on an article about technology B saying it sux because technology A is better.

All these comments do is tell us your mental (or maybe actual) age is about 14yrs old. If you are an actual iOS user and have a comment on what 4.2 is lacking, then fine. If the article is about Android and you are an Android user who wants to praise or complain, fine.

The rest of us don’t really care to see your whining about products that you don’t own or use.
