Verizon Wireless to discount family plans for smartphone users

Verizon Wireless will soon offer discounts on monthly plans to smartphone users who subscribe to a family plan, The Wall Street Journal reports. The new promotion, which starts Friday and will allow sign ups through January 7th, will require customers to have smartphones with $29.99 per month unlimited data plans. While WSJ did not specify the discount scheme Verizon’s new promotion will employ, it did report that discounts would be up to $30 off monthly bills on family plans ranging from $69.99 to $149.99 per month. Verizon Wireless has yet to make any official announcement regarding the promotion.

    The details are over on Droid-Life. They even list the promotions toll free number. I called and was going to get it, but out extends your contact.

        You must be upgrading from a non-smartphone to a smartphone on a 2 year contract in order to receive a $10/mos credit for 24 months. Can not have global data or email package at any point in that 24 month period. That pretty much sums up all the details..

        Oh, this is not for select regions. It will be available everywhere. Many people don’t know about it within the company because it was just disclosed today. Everyone will be trained for the Friday launch.

        not so. i jumped on this plan yesterday. it has been listed in random forums for days now. i did not get the email either. i called and told the lady on the phone i saw this offer online and she gave it to me. it is good for only a year.the plan is 1400 minutes unlimited data and texts all on two lines for 139 a month!

      The promo is only for certain area’s of the US. Unless you get lucky and get someone who doesn’t care. Calling into customer service will be a waste of time. The promo is email based and only sent out in select markets. I’m an authorized agent for VZW and I know one guy at work who was successful at getting on this plan. I really hope it does launch soon. This will be a great savings for everyone. Here’s to hoping big red gets real aggressive with pricing this holiday season. I know it’s gonna put a squeeze on at&t if they try to match us. Let the fun begin!

    I’ll be sticking with t-mobile. Great prices and an amazing data network! I haven’t missed verizon for one second. LTE, you say? Maybe someday, but much like flash support (are you listening steve?), I NEED IT TODAY!

    Verizon is one step closer to making me a customer…first with the Iphone coming to VZW, now this….3 times the charm..whats next?? Sprint has between now and February when my contract ends to come out with a Blackberry i like or im catching the next this smoking to Verizon….

      It’s the same info from those emails last week sent to some Verizon customers.

      $69.99 gets you 450 minutes, unl. SMS, unl. Data for one phone
      $139.99 gets you 1400 minutes, unl. SMS, unl. Data for two phones

      The $139 price isn’t a bad deal for 2 phones other than the 1400 minutes. But you can add 10 out of network numbers so you could probably keep from going over.

      Considering the wife’s Droid X is costing about $128 (unl. everything) per month. So for about $10 more per month we can throw another smartphone on the plan.

    If this opens up for my market I may have to jump on it. I don’t really use many minutes but I message a lot and my wife and I both have BB’s. I’m getting tired of paying $150+ per month for 750 shared minutes 250 txts each and data….

    The big news is that VZW will waive the $9.99 of the add a line if they purchase a smartphone with the $29.99 data plan. They will waive the $9.99 for up to 2 yrs.

    Great Q4 promo if you ask me…
