Sony Ericsson Xperia X12 (Anzu) gets manhandled ahead of announcement

mobile

In typical Mobile-review.com fashion, the Russian blog we all know and love has managed to get its hands on Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X12 well ahead of any official announcement from the manufacturer. The Xperia X12, codenamed Anzu, will feature a 4.3-inch 854 x 480-pixel touchscreen, a 12-megapixel camera with HD video capture and playback, Android 2.2 and the same 800MHz processor found in the T-Mobile G2. This morning, Murtazin and friends published their preliminary thoughts alongside so many pseudo-arsty close-up photos, they could probably open a gallery in SoHo. What did they think? Murtazin handled the Xperia X12 at the same time as the upcoming Samsung i9100 — thought to be the Samsung-branded counterpart to the upcoming Google Nexus S — and here are his thoughts on pitting the X12 against the i9100 and its predecessor, the Galaxy S:

Going against the Galaxy S is also a suicide committed by blowing yourself up with a stick of dynamite, considering that the X12 will face both Galaxy S and its successor on the market. Even now Galaxy S offers much better features coupled with a superb screen and the only drawbacks are some of its software problems, which, by the way, didn’t prevent the device from being the best seller for Samsung.

Not long after the X12 hits the shelves across Europe, i9100 will see the light of day as the new flagship from Samsung and will offer all the characteristics that X12 was believed to have, but of course it doesn’t. The Super AMOLED screen will be improved, the hardware will be upgraded to a mind blowing level and its multimedia features will make most current devices look outdated.

Ouch. Hit the break for a few of the aforementioned artsy photos and then hit the read link for the full monty.

Well, at least Samsung supports their devices better than Sony, and that isn’t much to brag about. The x12 is actually a pretty nice looking phone, but if they put that stupid TimeScape (I believe that’s what its called) on there, then getting the 2.3 update will be an eternity. Also, a 12MP camera that shoots only 720P? Didn’t that LG have an 8MP that shoots 1080P? And lets be honest, that 854×480 res on a 4.3″ screen isn’t that great. Plus, it’s just an LCD, not even IPS. As much as I don’t really care for Samsung products, I have to agree with what Murtazin said. The Nexus S or Galaxy 2 will rock the x12.

Anyone else notice that this phone doesn’t have a dedicated search button? I thought all Android phones had to have that…

I’ve been enjoying the Mobile-review site for a while now. It has helped me in my previous purchases. However here I don’t see the point in taking a bite of Sony Ericsson’s X12 via an early comparison considering how little is know about it’s development at this point (software stability, hardware changes, etc). W we do know based on previous and recent developments

Sony Ericsson includes really good cameras with a easy to navigate interface in alot of it’s mobiles

From what we can see, an led flash and a 12MP sensor seems counterintuitive , though who know’s if that’s some kind of 3rd gen LED (much like the Nokia N86 had a 2nd gen LED) that produces better flash?(though as Steve Litchfield I’m sure would argue that,..Xenon flash is essential).

Sony has been producing S-LCD’s which can be found on some HTC devices ( I think the desire Z /T-mobile G2 has it) and there pretty good..maybe not compatiable to S-AMOLEDs but still good. Perhaps this phone carries an S-LCD.

Multimedia. though I’m not sure what kind of Multimedia package Samsung has offerred with the Galaxy S but if it’s like the Omnia HD then it’s pretty rich. I also think Sony Ericsson has since demonstrated some nice multimedia capabilities over the years via it’s walkman, Cybershot and now it’s Xperia Android offerings. Specifically with the Xperia it introduced the timescape and Media scape UIs which overall was well received (and ofcourse disliked too).

Eitherway the claim that the Samsung i9000 hardware would be upgraded to a “mind-blowing level” leads me to believe that..

the phone will carry a dual core processor

or perhaps be capable of 1080p video with a 12-14MP sensor.

Potentially more ram ? a large battery?
If it’s the processor then how much does it really matter?

When it boils down to it…pricing , arrival in the market and software support will make or break both of them at least in the U.S.
