The Fab Four go digital; The Beatles’ catalog now available on iTunes

Breaking

Yesterday, there were internet rumors aplenty after Apple posted a cryptic message about iTunes on its homepage, and today, we have to wonder no more. After a long holdout, it looks as though the music catalog of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Star, and George Harrison — better known as The Beatles — will be available for download from the iTunes Music Store.

It is a fairly well-known fact that Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, has a soft-spot for the gang from Liverpool and has been actively trying to get the group’s music on his company’s digital music store for some time. Multiple publications have cited pricing disagreements between Apple, Inc., Apple Corp (the band’s holding company), and record label EMI as the reason for the deal’s delay.

The Beatles’ appearance on iTunes will mark the first time the group has made its work legally available in a digital, downloadable format. Albums will retail for $12.99 and the band’s entire box set can be purchased for $149.

    To the Beatles credit u do like a few of their songs.

    Come in with the news!!! Where is the big announcement? Instead steve-o gives us these over rated hippie urban trash as if it’s a big deal. Dude the hippies already pirated the music. Screw the establishment man.

      How do you really feel? It is obvious that you care but good God man, have some dignity!

      excuse my grammar, I typed that on iphone…..First line should have been.

      To the Beatles credit “I” do like a few of their songs.

      Also, the establishment was a joke about liberal views.

    This is hilarious! Amazon has lowered their price on the Box Set by over $100 dollars.

    People crack me up. Apple didn’t hold an event, they made an announcement. As far as announcements go this is a pretty big one. Now, had Apple actually been releasing a product or a service they would have held an event.

    Announcement = 3rd party products
    Event = Apple product

    Come on people. Get your act(s) together. If you care that much about what Apple is or isn’t doing what does that say about your own life.

    For those hating, you realize that you are still giving Apple you money right?
    For the rest, Apple keeps rolling forward.

    Q1 2011 $26 Billion revenue and $5.5 Billion profit.

    this has been a long time coming

    you KNOW they had to do it – they’re just making it official now

    also, beatles want to make $$$ – ticked off their music has been on p2p for years and they’re not making a penny from it

    This IS good news – it let me know that there is now one more thing that can save money by NOT purchasing from Apple!

    By unforgettable, Jobs meant trying to ensure the Beatles are not forgotten. :)

    Finally sold out for the almighty dollar.

  • Dboy225

    what a lame joke…Jobs is doing everything he can, but wow, thats a pretty lame “forgettable” announcement

  • QNX Please

    Who cares, anyone that really wanted this on their Mp3 player has already downloaded, either legally or illegally from other sites.

    its funny watching the apple fanclub defend this announcement as groundbreaking…lmao…wow Apple is giving us the opportunity to buy something we’ve always had the opportunity to buy (more expensive however). Its even funnier listening to people say Apple’s doin this to help out the Beatles. In reality, Apple has the best marketing group in the world and the fact that people are so pleased about this ‘huge’ news is proof that it’s still the best.
    S.Jobs – stop trying to hype everybody up until you actually drop a new product…google is making you look like a fool by dropping new phones and updates every day, while you’re busy giving people a new way to buy the Beatles..dont forget Gingerbread is a few weeks away

    This is not news, it is called an advertisement. Why do you and similar sites broadcast this type of news for these companies? Charge them money, this should be part of an ad campaign. Dig harder for real news, only print good stuff and charge to retype these press releases, please.
