RIM pits Playbook against iPad in browser showdown video

Tablets

RIM just let us know that they have put together a three minute video pitting the unreleased and unfinished Playbook tablet against Apple’s iPad. The Canadian tech giant boasts of its device’s superior web-page rendering speed, super Flash performance, a perfect score on the Acid 3 browser test with no rendering artifacts, and JavaScript fluidity. But hey, don’t listen to us break it out, check out the full video after the break and let us know what you think. Our quick feedback? It’s mighty impressive. Though we have to wonder, by the time the Playbook is released, there will most likely be an iPad 2 out, and we know Apple isn’t just going to sit still.

I am routing for the Playbook but they need to launch the product already. SMH.

  • Gag

I’m impressed but the screen pales in comparison to the iPad and we still have no word on battery life.

    • QNX Please

It’s from RIM, they strive hard for great battery life, it will likely be pretty damn good.

BTW, you can sync iTunes with Blackberry… and now with the playbook for you Beatles fans.

Do Apple employees run BGR? The fanboys make me laugh how they stick up everything Apple. How there’s a come back for everything. You all are very predictable!!! See you in the line at midnight for the new World of Warcraft expansion nerds!

yes pretty much. There’s always a pro-Apple post or a comment to defend Apple when something appears to be better like this Playbook post. i.e. they sure take the time to mention that the iPad 2 should be out by the time the Playbook is released, but would they take the time to decipher their post about Apple overtaking RIM last quarter (iPhone 4 being released, quarter ending in September, etc.)? Nope!

Anyway, head over to Engadget to see a video of the latest Playbook demo. I’d love to see how an iPad would survive a multitasking demo like that and it’s not even a finished product.

Apple fanboys can take their larger screen and shove it up their ass. I take productivity and multitasking if I say so myself. Cry fanboys, cry.

This tablet is very impressive and gives more than (currently) any android offerings. Big thing about the ipad2, it still wont have flash. Which the PlayBook will. Chances are apple wont put cameras on a 10″ slate either. (That would be pretty ridiculous! Haha)

I give credit where credit is due. I’m a current android user but unlike automobiles I have to reason to stay with one brand. I will go to which ever device suits my needs. Its apparent the rampid apple fanboys comment all over this site.
“But but the ipad is almost a year old!”

If anything you Hipster douchebags, RIM just made your second generation ipad better.

Considering that laptops with bigger screens often come with cameras (including MacBooks), chances are iPads will come with cameras in the future.

Now put this type of web browsing on your handsets, you bastards!

  • drew dogg

The iPad zoom in/out speed is ridiculous fast. He didn’t show that once on the playbook.

Blackberry needs to stop playing catchup and bring out something revolutionary. What’s with the Torch and Bold lame-o processors? What is with this marginally better browser test. Either bring out an “A” game, kick-butt product that leapfrogs everything or go sit on the bench. Too much bench sitting lately RIM. I want you to succeed by lately you just suck.

  • Quiyb

LOL! Who will want a iPad when this is release? Who will want an iPad2 will this is release?!? Both iPad1 and iPad2 will not have Flash either way…The performance on this is impressively fast. Playbook > All iPads

Watch apple come out with a smaller model iPad even after they said “people didn’t want it” we all know apple knows what the consumer should want. I think with the right marketing, the playbook will be an absolute hit.

    ┌П┐(•_•)┌П┐the iPad!!!

    • MisterWhatItIs

uhh…..Apple wasn’t the first with this tablet thing, tablets have been around for a while now. People have just gotten this idea that, oh shoot look at this it’s an iSomething or other. The iPad really is crap, and I own a Mac.

All of you Ipad fans hear this!!! I went and bought your ‘I don’t work properly’ pad last Friday from my local Verizon store. On Saturday went to the Apple site using my strong WiFi connection which everything else I have works on and tried to run each section of the Ipad tour and the Ipad froze after running a few seconds of each section. Because of that I returned it on Sunday and was informed that Apple required a $70 restock fee. Never been charged a restock fee from Verizon and this was not their rule but Apple’s. Had to pay it even though the thing didn’t work properly. I know that you I’fans are going to say that I am bashing Apple or that I am not tech savvy, which I am, or some bull but this is a true real life story not made up. Simply because of that stupid, silly restock fee I will never purchase any Apple product from now on. I know this is comparing the Ipad to the Playbook but I bought the Samsung Tab which I am very happy with at this point great product. Whatever you buy, don’t get the Ipad it could cost you extra money.

The Playbook has a fighting chance if they focus on killer business apps. There are tons of apps for the iPad, but not all of them appropriate to BB’s core base. I’ll hold judgement until it’s released and reviews are in. But so far the specs and performance seems good.
As for Flash, there is a reason why most phones don have it or people disable it on the ones that do for convenience. The sooner it’s gone, the better. Apple or anyone else shouldn’t humor it any longer and let it die already.

  • http://twitter.com/Whyoh Why-oh

You people And all these Companies are miss why people like the ipad…its the apps and the app store…..yes their will be tablets that are made better with better specs…but the apps…I have an Evo and I love rooting it and swapping roms …but when I show it to people they don’t care about that…. it comes down to them comparing apps and apple wins that fight

    • Kiddo

      sorry

    • Kiddo

Sorry bud but you can go to sites that have over 5 million Java games

On day one Playbook will have more apps that iPad. I know it’s hard to accept but you’ll get over it.

  • Hermes_riverag

so why don’t they make there phones internet that good

  • Westex74

The first thing I thought when I saw the video was “Damn, the Playbook is tiny”.
