iOS 4.2 delayed one week due to Wi-Fi bug?

mobile

The Internet is all atwitter with reports claiming that Apple’s iOS 4.2 will, in fact, not be released this week. The rumors — which as far as we can tell all originate from the Greek blog iPhoneHellas – cite a “Wi-Fi bug” that cropped up in the iOS 4.2 gold master candidate that was released to developers late last week. It has been widely reported that the Cupertino company’s mobile OS update would be released to the general public at some point today. We’ve pinged Apple for comment and will update this article with any relevant information provided.

Wow- both WP7 and iOS. No problem (ever) with my BlackBerry. ;)

Well, the “problem” there is in its lack of functionality and antiquatedness.

No surprise there. BB’s are basically phones and email. What the hell else are they good for?

Have you ever used a BlackBerry before?

Imagine THAT! A “phone” that is basically a “phone”! How ludicrous!

I think it’s great that BlackBerry’s work great as phones since that is one of the things people do with their smartphones. Now, with the iPhone (which I’ve owned and sold) – the “Phone” part doesn’t necessarily work well. My roommate and other iPhone users that come to my place have to stand at a particular spot in order to get reception. Interestingly enough, when I was using a BlackBerry Torch around my place, it worked just fine. DROID X is my weapon now and the VZW network, which works flawlessly.

Kinda makes you wonder who has more knowledge and talent at writing baseband software. It’s definitely not Apple.

I am pretty sure this is a convenient exaggeration. BlackBerry is so error laden apps have been developed to make the “battery pull” more convenient. Great platform, but let’s not suggest its error free.

I’m giving the purported Verizon iPhone another 2 months to arrive. If it doesn’t HTC is my next stop away from BB. Hands down this is one the worst phones I’ve ever owned.
1.)Touchscreen is woefully inaccurate, predictive type ahead even worse
2.)Has always been super slow and now outclassed by just about everything
      3.)Crashes
      4.)Randomly hard resets itself
5.)Blackberry Browser – nothing else needs be said
6.)Screen blacks out during calls for no reason.
7.)’last #’ redial frequently dials the contact first entry instead

These are documented problems that many others have as well. I consider the purchase of the Storm I to have been worst cell phone purchase.

iPhoneHellas is not German. It’s Greek

I’m on 4.2 and have had no wifi issues. My brother who is on 4.1 however, has. He can’t connect to certain networks for no particular reason.

The bug appears to be only in 4.2 GM for iPad (I have 4.2 GM on iPhone and iPad but only on ipad sometimes when the wifi signal is low stay connected but without internet access – the iPhone from same spot doesn’t have any problem.

Look at this….Apple tests their OS before releasing it with a bunch bugs. Android takes forever and still releases with bugs.

Uh, 4.2 can’t be “delayed” if Apple never released a real date to release it.

    • sirpaul

Just because you don’t know the date doesn’t mean it wasn’t delayed.

You don’t know the date either, so as far you know, it will be right on schedule when it comes out.

Bug I thought apple was perfect…Lol

Will I be able to delete all my text messages with this update?
Will I be able to customize my text sound and email sound?

I’m not happy with my iphone….

I love how the source is iPhoneHellas. though it should be Hella iPhones. That would be cooler.

Let me get this straight. Someone “makes up” a phoney release date of 11/12/2010. When it doesn’t happen… someone else “makes up” another phoney release date of 11/19/2010.

That’s bgr’s idea of “oh, it’s being delayed now”????

bgr just gets worse and worse.

I have a hard time believing that no one else discovered this issue and reported it other than a single blog.

  • BB/iOS User

I’ved used Blackberry for years. I think it’s a great phone.
