HTC DROID Incredible OTA update begins rolling out

mobile

Verizon Wireless began rolling out a new minor software update Thursday evening. While the listed improvements are hardly earth shattering, there is one addition that is of particular interest: Verizon’s V CAST Apps store. The new store will allow DROID Incredible users to download and install applications in a manner similar to the Android Market, but V CAST Apps supports carrier billing. This means purchases made can be billed to a subscriber’s Verizon Wireless account as opposed to a credit card. The update, delivered over the air as an 18MB file, should be pushed out to all users over the next few days. Hit the jump for a full change log.

Improvements:  (3.26.605.1/Baseband Version: 2.15.00.07.28)

•Updated Flash® player includes security enhancements.
•Visual Voice Mail Wi-Fi improvements include removal of incorrect service messages and post-call notifications.
•Enhanced support for Yahoo!® IMAP email.
•Updated Slacker application.
•Attach files larger than 5 MB.
•Updated COX POP3 email settings.
•Play YouTube videos in YouTube application.
•Seamlessly switch between portrait and landscape views in Google Maps.™
•Updated Comcast POP3 email settings.
•Search key and other buttons displayed in correct order.

Enhancements:

•Preinstalled V CAST Apps lets users purchase applications directly from their devices and bill them to a Verizon Wireless account.

Got this last night. The V CAST app store is slow and will never be an alternative to the Android Market as far as I’m concerned.

Another great update by a great carrier for a great DROID. It just keeps getting better and better for DROID and VZW!

      Until iPhone comes around

I doubt there are many Verizon customers actually waiting on the iPhone. DroidDoes!

That’s a weird picture. The Incredible is on 2.2, right? So why is that one in the image running ATK?

At any rate, this isn’t so much an update as it is a virus. Why does Verizon insist on ruining good phones with bad ideas? First the Fascinate, now this, and then the Merge? Almost as bad as Sprint’s crapware on the Evo… but at least in the Evo’s case all that stuff was there at launch for us to get rid of. The Incredible is getting crapware halfway through its life. It’s like Christmas, only Santa’s giving you a stocking full of shit. Whee.

Exactly, Verizon is making me think of going to another carrier. All this bloatware is ruining android. Its one thing to put it on and let us remove it, another thing altogether to lock it on and make people root to remove. Total fail.

Going to pass on this update. After my root and removing vznavigator and all the other crapware it got from the froyo update I’ll pass on adding even more crap that’ll just get uninstalled. Going to wait til February so I can use my upgrade and get the incredible hd

I just got the update this morning. Slacker I could have done without, since I listen to Pandora and my local radio station app (93.3 WMMR) daily. The Verizon App Store is sloooow. Although, I do like how they categorize their games (it’s definitely better than the Android Marketplace). I seriously doubt that I’ll buy anything from the Verizon Store, since I’ve heard that they do not offer refunds (can somebody verify this?).

Personally, I wish that we had the ability to opt out of the installation of the bloatware. Or at least give us the ability to uninstall it.

Is there a way to permanently refuse this OTA bloatware when prompted??

  • Unhappy with Verizon

This update forced my phone into a complete factory reset with the consequent loss of all apps and data stored on the phone. When I spoke to Verizon I was told that: a) updates rarely cause factory resets, but on occasion they do; b) Verizon does not push out updates – they are pushed by the manufacturer or google so Verizon takes no responsibility for the impact of the updates; c) the rep did not know anything about todays update and in fact said the last one they had been advised about took place in October.

Reluctant to root. Resistant to system update. Annoyance levels rising. Day 5 – still denying the system update.
