Sony Ericsson Xperia X12 (Anzu) revealed in leaked image

mobile

An unannounced Sony Ericsson was revealed last night when a leaked image of the Xperia X12, codenamed Anzu, was posted on an enthusiast blog. The image shows a device resembling the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 running a modified build of the Android 2.1 operating system. Little is known about the unreleased smartphone for the time being, though rumors give it a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, an HDMI-out port, HD video recording capability and a very slim candy bar form factor. It is also said that when the device finally does launch some time in the first quarter of 2011, it will be running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) rather than the already outdated Eclair build seen in the leaked image. Hit the jump for a few more images of the X12.

Well, after how SE is going about the X10, that got released with 1.6 and is STILL working getting only 2.1, I don’t think many people will care. It always takes SE way too long to release a product after it’s announced and the lack of support really turns away customers (at least it did me). Unless it’s the PSP phone, I don’t see any of their phones being supported very well.

The fact that the current dev model has Android 2.1 shows me that SE hasn’t changed anything in regards to their outlook on the Android front. If this is a new device, they should be developing it with Froyo at this point (froyo’s been available to developers for months).

I hope SE can turn things around and release a modern device with the latest available OS on-time. But being an X10 owner, my expectations are jaded. In the end, it will take ALOT to win back many X10 oweners and woo them into purchasing another SE product.

BS… I’m sure it’ll be running 2.1 when it comes out and just like the x10 it’ll take a year for them to roll out 2.3. To which they’ll say, “We can tell you when the update is coming, but we can say it’s VERY soon.”

To that I say, get bent
(I own an x10… I’m allowed to say that)

      sorry about that..

all those complaining about 2.1, hello… its a test version. also if its running gingerbread, chances are its gonna be stock. In that case google will handle the updates.

That hardware is FAR too sexy to be running 2.1 in November of 2010. I mean, are they planning to skip 2.2.1 and release it with 2.3? If so, great… until Honeycomb is released.

I’ll hold off for the Nexus-S, thx.

Why is there ANY new phone launching with 2.1? STUPID!

Any new phone this late in the game should require 2.2.

It specifically says it will be released with 2.3.

      Reading is Fundamental.

The textual rumor states 2.3. The device shows 2.1. You’d think that if it were going to have the latest software it would at least be running 2.2 in these early stages.

My point still stands and your overzealous response is just jerky.

LOL and your overzealous response wasn’t?

I agree with you Superchunk. 2.2 has been released long enough for a manufacturer to have been had it. Look at how long Motorola must have had to have released the Droid2. And they are working on a new test device with a firmware version already outdated that they are just releasing on their current handset. Looking at how they released the current Handset with 1.6, when 2.1 pretty much was about to drop. And seeing how long it took them to get 2.1. This is one reason I won’t buy an Android device.

If they make a new unlocked Nexus One type handset for Android,I might get one. Otherwise, I’ll admire Android from afar. I usually get a new handset every 6 months to a year but, I don’t like it when then handsets are not upgradeable to the new standard in that amount of time.

I’m glad to see them get rid of that stupid search button.

Dumb question: will Sony ever make a phone for the Verizon network?

    • Anonymous

Maybe when Verizon goes LTE. But then again hardly anyone will cater to Verizon’s branding and remodeling of devices. Verizon had to give in to Motorola to compete with At&t and Apple. But look at how Sprint and Verizon messed up the Nexus One idea.
