General

Last week, we told you the N8 was coming to Rogers Wireless and this week, it is here. The Canadian wireless carrier has officially announced that the Nokia N8 is available to the masses. The device, which boasts a 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss lens, can be purchased for $79.99 with a three-year contract; or contract-free for $449.99. You know how we feel about the device, how about you? Anyone from the great white north plan on picking one up?

$80 for the best camera phone on the market available? Not bad by Canadian standards…

I’d like to, but I’d hold out for an Android device. I am currently still using an E71 and its wonderful, but I don’t know if I still want the Symbian platform. I’d definitely have see a review that is more factual (i.e. NOT Engadget) to see if I’ll pick this up. It has serious potential though.

    At that price, why not.

Best phone camera, worldwide navigation without data, and Nokia has dropped the idea of Symbian^3 and will be releasing Qt-based upgrades for years to come.

The one thing that I might wait for is the new Qt browser web browser, which should be out soon.

Man, I REALLY wanted to love this device. There is so many good thinks about the hardware but Symbian 3? Why not Maemo? Nokia N900 FTW.

If you can convince Rogers to give you the unlock code, cause they ain’t giving out to anyone. Plus, good luck trying to get an unlock code from 3rd party.

      P.S. This Nokia uses baseband 5 SL3.

Rogers doesnt give out unlock codes but I’m sure someone would figure out how to unlock this bad boy. At $80 a pop you can’t go wrong.

Bring it to the states! (T-Mobile, preferably.)

Wow $79? and $449 out of contract? If they can market it to Canada with that ridiculously low price then technically they can market it to the U.S. carriers (ideally T-mobile) for the seemingly “standardized smartphone” price of $199. Or they can sell in limited quantities and ask for a higher price via the carriers.

Ideally there will be no unnecessary carrier applications ( though T-mobile TV seems pretty useful. ) or rather no significant modifications to the O.S. It would be interesting to see the Nokia N8 make use of T-mobile’s “4G” network or at least be able to utilize it’s front facing video camera (which they should leave intact along with Penta-band 3g radio the N8 possess). Perhaps T-mobile can market this phone to T-mobile customers who travel frequently? This phone has alot of utility and can be marketed in so many ways.
