Five future Palm devices pop up in webOS 2.0 code?

Rumor

Remember how we told you about Palm’s rumored upcoming devices? Well, the folks over at WebOS Internals have been pouring through SFR’s webOS 2.0 code and have stumbled upon five device code-names: Stingray, Mantaray, Broadway, Windsor and Roadrunner (Palm Pre 2). The code-names were  found in string of code that displays: “temporarily not restoring logs for newer devices.” The holiday season is fast approaching, and we would love to add some HP-Palm hardware to our respective wish lists.

Will take the phone on the left.

You’re welcome to the phone on the left I want to play with the tablet sitting in the back of the pack.

I fear it may be too late for WebOS. Palm took so long to get it to market that Android absolutely ate their lunch. Who knows where we’d be if it didn’t take Palm 2 freakin’ years to get it done? I’m an original Palm Pre owner and WebOS was definitely a beta release when it first hit the market. It’s gotten better, but it’s so far behind the curve for apps that it may already be irrelevant.

With HP behind it there may still be a chance for WebOS, but it’s a longshot at best.

All I know is Id be all over that one on the left if they make one like it. I could finally say good bye to android!!

  • Norm

Why does HP or Palm even bother? The DROID OS is unstoppable. It’s the greatest OS ever created and nothing will stand in its way. PATHETIC job Palm!

If you don’t care, why comment?

If you’re going to comment, at least get the name of your beloved OS right.

Then again, I expect nothing better from most Android “nerds” (in quotes because.. well most of them are too dumb to know the name of the OS they use)

Before you comment you should try out a webOS device. Even the editors at Engadget like webOS more than Android, iOS and WP7. The biggest stumbling block for webOS is the hardware TBH.

Pffttttt if everyone had your mentality we’d still be using Windows 95. Android isn’t great its decent and a OS only remains decent or great until someone else creates something different to make it irrelevant.

      P.S.
The OS you’re talking about isn’t called Droid its called Android. If you’re going to comment about something at least get the name of your OS right

I switched from webOS to Android when the Evo came out (I wasn’t going to, but I was standing in line to get one for my boss’ boss and decided to get two instead. I desperately want to go back to webOS, but on better hardware. As you can tell from my comment, I am on Sprint so my only option is the original Pre, not even the Plus model.

If the device to the left has a 4+ inch screen, goodbye Droid X

The one on the far left is calling you.

I agree the phone on the left looks like a can of cool beans. If it has the specs to match the nice look I would also consider giving WebOS a try.

  • Maynard

I think that all touch device on the left looks awesome!!! Prob no Droid, but it looks sweet

  • Anonymous

Finally some decent naming going on. Add that to new devices an its looking like a contender has not been knocked out, sweet. Got to love the underdog.

  • drew dogg

    They better hurry!!!

  • Mgl323

The one with the physical qwerty keyboard !

Are these actual press shots of phones/tabs to come out or are they mock ups?

    • Anonymous

If those are just mock ups the guy who created those mock ups should get a job designing actual products. Most of those handsets aesthetically look real nice.

These are the finalists/winners of a PreCentral contest from a few weeks back. Each one was “made” by a different designer and some even included some really cool ideas for OS tweaks. I really hope people at HP/Palm are watching these closely because there is some wonderful inspiration to be had from them both hardware and software wise.Update: Link to the breakdown of the contest finalists and winners http://www.precentral.net/vote-mock-next-palm-device-contest-needs-you-pick-winner If you click on each one you can see more detailed information each designer added.

    Awesome concepts!

That Seemingly 4″-4.3″ screen has me doin flips…..and that blackberryish form factor is definitley makin me do a double take….but really, did it take them that long to make a LANDSCAPE keyboard?? They shouldve did that from the jump.

But those 3 new designs minus the Tablet can easily eclipse those original Pre numbers.

    • Sighmonsez

Right…that Blackberrish form factor is nice when it’s not from RIM but god awful when it is from RIM. Remember, we’re only talking about form factor here, not what’s inside. That’s a different story.

Lets hope HP can do something with WebOS. I’m personally sick of just having iOS and Android as my only options. It would be nice to see WP7, WebOS and Meego actually offer a good user experience comperable to the two top dogs. The more competition the far better it is for all of us. I can hardly believe I’m cheering for M$ and HP to do well. Those two companies have always rubbed me the wrong way. Guess I’m really getting bored with Google and Apple.

  • Visual Mofo

That phone on the left, with a 4+ inch screen….looks…amazing.

  • AusFest

A couple of those look real nice. I hope to see them on the shelves soon cause I’m gonna get me one!

  • Eric

I have yet to use WebOS, but I have heard some good things about it from a friend of mine who has a Palm Pre. I also know someone who works at HP who has seen some prototype stuff on the HP WebOS tablet device. He thinks it will be pretty good.

Personally, I am holding out for the second generation of tablet devices….

Why is it taking Palm (HP-Palm) so long to roll out new hardware? People have said Apple only tweaked iPhone for 3+years, etc. But there was no major problems with the original HW!! WebOS dying bc of shoddy build quality, shoddy gps, poor design (moving hinge/oreo), shoddy keyboard. Aren’t these components fixable without a major re-design? Put the PrePlus guts in a pixi? Write in a software/touch kb ala android? Keep the processor, graphics, etc. but ditch the gps, kb, hinge? I don’t understand…

    • http://blog.app-juice.com App Juice

What are you on about? Palm didthe stupid thing and ruined the over ore by crappy product design. If the phone looked great they would sell more for the is is more stable and better than android and in some aspects better than iOS. Because of the terrible hinge it and over design of the pre it fails.

I designed all of the web OS devices, they are the best. It tops Droid, iPhone w7 and any other OS. It has taken me 7 months to make from scratch, I lost my wife, house, and my homosexual roommate that I used to sneak into bed with after many long night in the garage. Verizon is the best to use with web OS and the palm Pres are the shit!
